I was just curious, if there any talk anywhere about there being different marks of terminator armour? I mean Im guessing there are as there are different leg types.... Anyone know anything official?

Also how long ago in 40k background was the first tyranic war? I am thinking of doing an ultramarine off-shoot chapter that was founded after the first hive fleet was defeated. And does anyone know what founding this would be?

Thank you for your help.

Well, I dunno about the marks to terminator armor. There were certainly earlier versions, but I don't know if those are considered to be earlier in universe designs.

The First Tyrannic War occurred about 54 years before the current date in 40k. The last founding was the 26th in M41.738, so it would have to be a new 27th founding you made up for your chapter.

Yeah. 745 + 254 = 999.

Would it be possible that a new chapter be created but not as part of a founding?

Definitely. The foundings usually were responses to a necessity created by a threat. Individual chapters have been created, and indeed, some have no idea of their origins.

Hell, I think they created a Dark Angels successor on Azrael's request alone.

It was Chapter Master Anaziel in M37, requesting the Disciples of Caliban were formed.

Could easily do something similar with Ultramarines. Clagar requests a Tyranid-specific chapter be created.

There was three Terminator models issued prior to the RTB09 box set which the current models are based on.

You can see a dinky old B&W photo of them @ Stuff of Legends:

http://www.solegends.com/citcat89/c894106marines.htm

The first rules for these old suits can be found on pages 32-33 of WD109.

A painted version can seen on page 24 of WD 110.

Wow. Pauldrons of doom to the max.

WHAT!?! I CAN'T HEAR YOU... MY PAULDRONS ARE IN THE WAY.

Seriously though, that miniature looks better in the raw. The Storm bolter configuration is really groovy. You can see why it could be used in Close Combat.

...but the pauldrons are a bit over the top.

Wow. Pauldrons of doom to the max.

You are saying it wrong, it's: pauldrons of DOOM!
Everybody knows that pauldons of doom make your armour better. Just look at some of the armours in WoW .

As far as I know there are no official records of different types of termie armour, but if you look in the HH: Collected visions artbook you'll see that the heresy style armour if different compared to current termie armour. Somehow GW didn't bother making an official record for terminator armour marks (something they did do for power armour).

I have 410611 (the one on the left at the top of the box) lying around somewhere, it's absolutely tiny compared to the current ones! Pretty small compared to current Tactical Marines in all fairness

As do I. It's comparable in size to the Terminators of the RTB09 box set of the same era.

I've got three of the '11s in my SM army, and one of the '09s in the bits box somewhere.

They are comparable to the RTB09 box of figures - which is to say, small compared to the ginormous ones of today.

To be fair these guys are sculpted for 25mm, but the miniatures today are 28mm. It doesn't sound like much I know, but a 10% increase in most things is an appreciable difference.

Don't recall much fluff about terminator armour marks although it did use to be referred to as Tactical Deeadnaught Armour if I recall correctly.

Tactical Dreadnought Armour is indeed its name, and I don't think marks have been referred to either. There certainly are differences, and so we can assume there is a system, but its never been explained.
