I am participating in warhammer tournament at my local store using vampires and have made it past the first 2 rounds, however i now find myself playing an ex manager and well versed tournament player. I do not exspect to win, but there is always the chance, his army a dark elf avoidance army e.g dark riders, small units of crossbows, possibly flying units and a hydra.

Its a 2000 point limit, i have created a list which best protects my characters however i am not sure if i have the speed.

Vampire lord, flayed hauberk armour (+2 armour save), Dark acolyte (+1 magic level), master of the black arts (+2 power dice) +1 magic level =360

Wight king, drakenhof banner (regen for unit) =225

Vampire, hunter in the dark (scout), talisman of lycni (movement 9), sceptre de noirot (D3 +9 zombies on raise dead casting) =160

29xGrave guard, full command, banner of hellfire (flaming attacks) =388

50x Skeletons, spears, full command, banner of endless nightmare (+4 rank bonus instead of 3) = 515

4xBlood knights, full command, the flag of the blood keep (4+ ward against ranged attacks) =350

This army is a no go. You need 3 units of Core troops to make it legal. Blood knights are useless in 8th because of supporting attacks against them. spend the points on something else such as more core troops like 2 units of zombies or even Ghouls because with their poisoned attacks it makes them very useful if you put them in horde formation. Im thinking 2 units of 40 zombies each with a standard and a musician. that would be 344pts i do believe, which gives you 8 pts remaining. Throw another skeleton in there and you're at 2000 exactly.
Anyways this is my two cents.

well thank you for the advice sadly thought my army has only recently been completed and i only have 20 zombies sadly however i could break up the skeletons, also i will only be fighting small unit so 4 blood knights can easily overcome 10 crossbowers.

Erm i thought there was no such requirement for core units? Only that you have to have 25% of the army as core. This could be one large unit as far as im aware :S if not can you point me to the page in the rulebook as i cannae find it :(

I guessing the rule he thinking off is Page 134 Minimum Three Units, but it actually is just three units not 3 core units.

i assumed that it was just 3 units however i have not had chance to read the whole book and the background has kept most of my attention of late

yeah, the rule is indeed just a minimum of 3 units, core or otherwise

Seriously guys... There is already a thread on this in Tactics which devolved into a chat between mates. Stop clogging up the forums.

This thread is a direct copy if this one (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=269364) in Warhammer Tactics.
Please don't start the same thread in two forums.

I'm locking this thread and moving the other one the Warhammer Armylists.
