Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone knows of any large (and preferably cheap) wolf models suitable for making a War Altar conversion. My army is a Cult of Ulric themed army so I want a wolf on the back of the War Altar instead of the Griffin. I'm also building the Altar bigger than the tiny model that exists, so the wolf needs to be big and in a suitable pose.

Any suggestions?

Here's a cool and scary one, though a tad expensive maybe (http://www.animalgifts4u.co.uk/index.php?productID=2175)

You called? ;)

On a more serious note, is it just a big wolf you are after, or would something werewolfish do? I see mto remeber there was a thread about werewolves a while ago that had some pretty impressive models in it.

Try these........ they are big and wickedly awesome sculpts. Not cheap though.

Interestingly enough I am also looking for a suitable "Wolf" to put on the back of a War Altar for my Arch Lector Ar-Ulric and his Middenhiem Army.

A friend showed me the above wolves about a week ago and I'm trying to figure out how to make one fit on the back of the altar!

@ BigbyWolf; they would be worth the look. Do you have a link? Thanks.

@ Hitsugaya; that wolf is interesting. Do you know if it is still available?

@ Urgat; thanks that's more helpful :p Not a great model for Fantasy conversions though. Canis' legs are stuck to the wolf and the Space Marine armour plates and lazer eye. Cheers all the same.

@ Empire - Ulric; yes, a friend showed me pictures of these the other day but couldn't remember the website. They are great models. Thanks a million, may have to go with one of these.

Still open to suggestions though, especially if they are plastic. Cheers everyone so far.

There is this one - might look a bit cartoony tho...

I think that ones probably the most statuesque of all the options. How big is it?

Bear with me if these seem a bit too odd, or if they'd need to much work; I'm just trying put to put ideas out there:

Would maybe the Yhetees from Ogre Kingdoms work for the overall body shape and size? (yes, you'd probably need to not use the ice weapons). I don't know about scale, but you might be able to use the heads from chaos warhounds (suitably de-chaos'ed, e.g. smoothing out any chaos bits)?
Alternatively...for a more man-wolf/werewolf idea, how about a Minotaur -or Ogre body with fur- and a chaos hound head?

No idea if it'd work but, if you have access to the models, it might be worth comparing them side by side and seeing if they'd work..?

It is also the cheapest option, so I will reiterate your question also; how big is it? :p

These (http://www.reapermini.com/FigureFinder#detail/65058) ones from Reaper are nice. Here (http://s8.photobucket.com/albums/a4/mrtnw/Miniatures/Beastmen/?action=view&current=Jycklas3.jpg)'s one of mine, mounted on a GW cav base.

Honestly don't know, just saw your question and had a quick google search. Looks to be on a cav base tho and the model says 30mm, which looks about right to the top of the shoulder hunch.

EDIT: I keep going back to that site - they have some nice stuff. I might even get one of the Dire wolves as I am strangely drawn to them...

Too small, but cheers all the same mrtn.

That would probably be my criteria for choosing a mini there indeed. Some of those minis are nice, but they don't really work as statues.
