im currently in the making of a 3000 pts pre heresy army using a combination of the blood angels codex and Chaos marines codex....

but what do we know about pre heresy librarians and chaplains, in terms of colours, equipment and roles within the legion?
:wtf:

Not Blood Angels / Chaos / Space Wolves? Nice to see you´re limiting yourself

I´m pretty sure there´s nothing on colour scheme/equipment, so it would be equally ok if you
- used the current one
- invented your own.

If those specialists were present at all?
- Librarians were very rare in Legions pre-Nikaea. Post-Nikaea, they were even rarer, and only being deployed by the more radical and traitorous Legions (oh and maybe the Space Wolves, because they don´t use the warp but fenrisian mumbo jumbo ;)).
- Chaplains ... this one´s more difficult. Some sources say (said) they were being installed after the council of Nikaea, to ensure the census of psychic powers. Then, there are various sources that hint of Chaplains being present before that, even outside of Word Bearers.

This is just off the top of my head. Someone with an index and an index finger to point stuff out will come shortly ....

Edit:
Oh, ask a mod to move this thread to 40k-Background. Maybe there´s someone who doesn´t visit general who can help you.

ok...would a chaplain have a crozius? and other gear or again is their presence only a vague shadow as they were so few in numbers?

thanks anyway, and who do i ask to move this?

Librarians:
-The color is probably the same as the rest of the legion
-Equipment is basically the same
-They provide support and counter enemy psykers. Record keeping goes to the remembrancers.

Chaplain
-Fluff suggests that Chaplain attire is the result of the emperor's fall (death mask, black, etc) so they might be the same as the others too.
-Dark Apostles carry around corrupted crozius, so yes to those.
-They provide spiritual guidance and regulate psykers

Not so sure about chaplains, but I know that some legions supported librarians and others didn't.
-They were used most by the Thousand Sons.
-Through strange reasoning, Space Wolves hated librarians but suddenly were fine if they were labeled "rune priest".

with this army it stands at the emperors children legion with fulgrim and a terminator bodyguard and 2 pre heresy lanraiders and 4 'classic' rhinos with 60 marines with various gear and weapons then there are 2 units of 3 jetbikes and 3 apothecarys i

i just felt that a chaplain and/ or a librarian should be present in the force and what colours and gear they would wear if they were in fact included

Crozius...sure, why not.

Rosarius...nope. The Rosarius are given to the Chaplains by the Echlisiarchy in order to show their faith in the Emperor.

I took a quick flip through the Visions of Heresy art books to see if any of the current chaplain armours sets popped out...and I didn't see anything.

so are chaplains black, or would they have the legion colour?

I think this is one of those ' they are there but not there' kinda things, we know there are some libbys and chapys but not much about them. I would paint them up however you wanted to. It's your army do what you want. =o]

Would Chaplains even exist? The Emperor wasn't deified properly until after his death, although it was beginning toward the end of the Crusade/Start of the Heresy. Without needing spiritual guidance (everything was explained by Science) why would a legion have a Chaplain (Other than Word Bearers, obviously)?

Chaplains existed from early on in the Word Bearers legion.
When Librarians were banned at Nikaea chaplains were introduced into the other legions to ensure this was carried out.
Thats according to Collected Visions anyway.

I'll admit, my Crusade/Heresy knowledge isn't anywhere near as good as some people on here, I was just using logic (in 40K - should have seen my mistake there) to derive an answer.
Not read Collected Visions so I can't comment on it unfortunately though. :(

I use CSM codex to run a crusade era legion, chaplains are pretty easy to do. Pick one chaplain mini, paint as usual. Aspiring champion with PW count as.
