they are a good company to deal with.

how are you going to lay out the force? you'll be limited in types of weapons.

Cadian Shock troops from GW, with some alternate heads.
Nice and easy conversion, I just picked up some heads from Westwind Miniatures, using their SHS (seperate head system) options on the Weird War 2 page.
There are a wide range, I went with the WW1 Geman pikelhaubs.
They have some really sweet American Civil War heads with gasmasks for my next project....

or the much, much cheaper alternative to FW DKoK...

Ima using Wargames Factory shock troopers for troops, and the HQ squad, I ordered DKoK from FW.
I will also use FW DKoK for my HW teams.

Ta-Dah DKoK on the cheap (relatively cheap)

I dont play tourneys, and gaming group is OK with this.
for friendly games, this is the route you should look at.

if you wanna play tourneys, then get 2 x-tra jobs coz it'll cost ya.
(or you could b'come a pimp and have your ho's supply the toy soldier money lol)

On this topic any idea on how to do rough riders (ideally with a WWI feel as well) on the cheap?

@OP sorry to hijack your thread but this could be relevant for you as well ;)

And to make up for the slightly OT I thoroughly recommend Warzone (Mutant Chronicles) Bauhaus and Imperial soldiers: 80 infantry for less than 20 and with a very nice WWI feel to them. I only added lasguns and a few special weapons (easy conversion) and kolony militia heads (gas mask with helmet) and I'm really pleased with the results!

@ Gorgeo5
Many thanks! Cool but a tad expensive, at 84 dollars plus postage I'm probably better off with GW.......maybe pistoliers will do the trick

Don't use foundry WWI's they are terrible looking scuplts, and very old. Try Renegade. http://www.renegademiniatures.com/ww1.htm

Old glory also makes a great line of WWI figures for around .60 each if you join the old glory army (their discount membership), but the scale is closer to 25mm than 28mm. That being said I have two WWI armies from them and I love them both to bits!

yes, Empire pistoleers are an excellent way to make Rough riders. I have a platoon of them.

Add guard bits to the saddle- grenades, saddle bags, water bottles, saddle rolls, lasgun stocks sticking out the top of holsters, etc, etc.

Remove the OTT empire bits, and find some non frilly arms- I used spare cadian bits. Lances are scratch built from thin brass rod.

That is a great, great tip. Thank you.
Where'd you get all the extra lasguns? I'd imagine getting them wouldn't be cheap. The weapons at least fit a lot better than the rifle muskets / rifles historical minis come with.

lasguns come are cheap as chips... you get extras everywhere from most IG boxes.

Bunnahabhain... your post is useless without pics :P

Have a squiz at Deathcat's log (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=249262) for inspiration.

At Uberbeast: Many thanks!
At Glabro: I had a lot of spare lasguns from previous projects however it should be quite easy to find massive amount of Imperial Guard spare bits on e-bay, I just entered Guard + Bits in e-bay and I found this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Imperial-Guard-Cadian-Shock-Trooper-bits-/280553148176?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL

And this: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NECROMUNDA-SPACE-MARINE-IMPERIAL-GUARD-WEAPON-BIT-SPARE-/400146537643?pt=UK_Toys_Wargames_RL

You can search with Cadian and Catachan as well as key words.

The only annoying thing is that special weapons such as Plasma and melta gun are hard to find but you can always use Grenade launchers (cheap and easy to come by) as proxies.

OK, i looked at the renegade site, they look impressive and for 16 riflemen, 1 Heavy MG and a command for 11.95isnt bad at all!

I guess I'll keep my eyes open, I'm just a bit skeptical about finding a company's worth of them anywhere remotely easily.

Those are the easiest in a sense, GW has them on their bitz service for 6.50 for 5 meltas and 4.50 for 5 plasmas (gee, I wonder why the price is different...demand of course...)

I used perry miniatures (plastic range) french napoloeonic heavy cavalry for my rough riders.
About 16ish (shop around on ebay) for 14!

Body head and arm swaps and the jobs a good 'un!

I like the west wind shs stuff and pig iron.
If you want a german vs french theme, the kepi heads would work a treat!

I suggest you mix Warzone with WF - the heads and weapons of Warzone are next to unusable, and WF comes with a ton of extra heads and roughly 5 excess-weapons per sprue of three bodies. It won't look uniform, but certainly dark and grim.
