View Full Version : Ward Saves vs Regen. Clearing things up

Now, I have NO idea why I think this, but is there a difference between ward saves and regen saves?

Let's take a cannon, for example. It hits a character with a 4+ ward save. They take a ward save, fail and then take d6 wounds. However, I have it in my head that with regen you get hit, roll d6 wounds and regen each of those wounds individually.

Anyone clear this up or is regen just a crappier version of ward save?

Just to clarify Casshole's answer.

If you are hit with a cannonball and have a 4+ ward you would roll a die on a 1-3 you would take d6 wounds. A 4-6 means you are fine.

Same with regen.(assuming normal regen.)

The only thing "crappier" about regen is the ability of "flaming" attacks to negate your regeneration.

Ward Saves stacks with Magic resistance aswell, in addition to working vs fire. 6+ ward save and magic resistance 1 = 5+ ward save vs magic. 6+ regen and magic resistance 1 = 6+ ward save OR 6+ Regen.

Uhm, Killing Blow negates Regen aswell? Didnt know that.

Yeah, so regen isn't actually that good then compared to a ward save. Guess it was actually pretty clear to begin with./

Regeneration + the Dragonhelm/Dragonbane Gem is a good combo. Only downside is the KB vulnerability.

Ward Saves suffer against the Other Trickster's Shard. Regeneration's more reliable there.

Also consider the Goblin Tricksy Trinket. Regeneration will provide a save while ward saves will not. There's also a lizardman sword that negates wards, but regeneration is not actually a ward.
