Im starting to collect skaven because two people in my group have collected dark elves and doc. Any ideas what would work for me in a no limits cheese battle? 2500 points would be the prime limit. Whtat combinations should I stay away from and which should I get.

Thanks

See how many Doomwheels and Hellpit Abominations you can cram into the list and fill up the rest with hordes upon hordes of Slaves and Clanrats. The odd Jezzail troop or weapon team won't hurt either to add a bit flexibility to the mix.

Stay away from Assassins as they simply cannot copmete with their DE counterparts (well they could... if they were 50% cheaper).

A BSB is a must have, preferably with the Storm Banner... always get the Storm Banner.

Yep what ULF said, plague furnaces are also pretty good in a block of plague monks, and always have a grey seer.

Hellpit/Hellpit, or Hellpit/Wheel/WLC

Prophet on Bell, pushed by a giant Clanrat unit. BSB, Engineer with Rocket and Condenser, some plague priests to make sure the prophet is able to get wither or poison.

Minimal Unit Stormvermin with Stormbanner.

Huge Slave units.

Other than that...as you like. Jezzails, Warpfire Throwers, Globadiers are all nice. Maybe some Night Runners with poison to take down those warmachines.

I think those are all strong units you will need to win. However, don't let yourself get too caught up in the toys. I think Skavens strength goes up Proportionately with the number of large units of slaves you bring. units of 50 slaves with a musician, General and BSB with as much protection as possible.

This gives you a nearly impenetrable wall of troops that will be steadfast on ld 10 with re-rolls. Then you shoot whatever gets into combat against them to win.

Warpfire throwers and plague catapaults might be good, especially vs all those T3 units.

Jezzails aren't really worth the points anymore, especially if you intent to use them in a cheesy game, they will get panicked off the board by something really early and before that won't hit anything because of their bad BS(getting +1 for large target used to help alot). And the other thing they were good against, heavy knights, aren't that good anymore, or at least wouldn't be fielded in a way that jezzails would be useful against them, like in a big unit.

Basically, here's what I suggest taking in a Skaven list, in general:

Grey Seer on Bell: keep him cheap. I'm talking Shadow Magnet Trinket and little else.

Warlord: Give him a shield for grins, put him in the rear rank of the Bell's unit.

BSB: Shield, Storm Banner, stick him with the rest of the characters thus far.

Warlock: Level 2, Condenser, Doom Rocket (why not?)

Plague Priest: Furnace

Take a big unit of Clanrats to push the bell and several (3+) units of 50 Slaves. Keep the Slaves within range of the general and BSB and they'll be stubborn on a Ld10 with reroll--nasty.

Big unit of Plague Monks pushing the bell.

Aside from that, assuming you've met your Core requirements and have points left over, take a HPA and 2 Doomwheels and call it a day.

HELL PIT ABOMINATIONS!!!!! played against a 2 HPA list last night, i won the game (to be fair I cheesed out and took archmage with the teclis biography [book of hoeth] who killed like 50 skaven with multiple dwellers below hehehe), but the single HPA which reached by battle lines killed a grand total of 25 elves, my archmage and BSB, untill it was brought low by swordmasters.

.? Striking simultaneously and with a 4+ ward save? If anything, it's mutually assured destruction. Against most other armies, a skaven assassin is better these days because he is more limkely to survive to the second combat phase vs rnf and both get rerolls most of the time. Skaven assassins got a slight boost in this edition and de ones got a nerf. They are about balanced now.

It all sounds tasty to me, how about rat ogres no one has mentioned them or the wlc very much?

Never use Storm vermin..... your better of using a bigger unit of clan rats lol there useless in this addition as well, too expensive for what they can do, however models are nice

Dark elf players uses hydras, combat them with doom wheels, the zap if you roll well will bone a hydra over ^^

Plague furnace are awesome, against most armies, except maybe a few cannon totting empire/dwarf players

Grey Seers are a must have and so is a BSB

rat orges are meh, averge, toughness 4 and no armour means they die quick, i find points spent better elsewhere

My brother has used his in both games of 8th he's played and they've done rather well. He's been using them with the armour piercing banner and they've been able to slice their way through grave guard and dwarfs. The bump in weaponskill and strength seems to be wortht it.

How are Skaven Assassins good in 8th Edition? Forgive my ignorance, but they still seem pretty weak compared to how much they cost.

Rat ogres are great, they can easily kill their points back and then some before going down, thanks to their good initiative.

Investing more points in them with razor standard, with that i could bring almost 2 units of clan rats, depending on the size of unit your brother is fielding

That's great, but you've got to find somewhere useful to put them. From my experience as a greenskin general, I know that more units just leads to traffic jams.

Stormvermin are of course perfect bodyguards for a screaming bell. Otherwise, I don't see much use in paying double points for marginally better stats and the option on a magic banner. Anything halfway decent will stil mercilessly wipe the floor with them. In my opinion they're specialists, they're great if you have something planned for them, but they're not suitable as a standard choice in every army. But if they work for you, all the better, just have fun with them and be happy.

Clan rats are the worthless unit now. Storm vermin excel at killing due to their WS4 and I5 plus halberd. Queek storm vermin are monsters in horde formation and will carve up any elite unit in the game.

Clanrats are only good for tarpitting, not killing, and slaves can tarpit just as well as clanrats for half the price. Clanrats aren't even good for fielding weapon teams. Just throw 10 sv out to guard a warp lightning cannon and field a warpfire thrower. I usually have 2 cannons, 2x10 storm vermin, and 2 warpfire throwers, one per flank.

You people r forgetting SV have I5. add queek to that and razor standard= fun times. Thats without quees unit buff. which is to much IMHO.
