So it seems the new prince is like marmite, either love it or hate it. so lets have an opinion pole on this matter.

so here are the pros and cons of the models

Old Prince Pros
- Cheaper then the new one (2 difference)
- Mature style of design (and could say more detail then the new one)

Old Prince Cons
- Metal model
- No options included
- Has a Squatting pose

New Prince Pros
- Is plastic
- Has more options including wings
- Easier to paint

New Prince Cons
- New design style may look out of place with older models (also known as action figure syndrome)
- More expensive then the previous (large con considering it’s plastic)

my vote is both. they both have pros and cons but i love how both have different conversion oppotunities, kit bashing them together can get some pretty interesting outcomes.

Also heres a picture attached for those who wish to compare and for the giggles.

the new one for me - mostly because it's plastic and therefore _much_ easier to customise and convert, which I think everyone should do, at least a little. That's a partly a fluff consideration - coz hey, it's Chaos! Seeing endless identical DPs offends me, seems so boring and unchaotic. (Identical ork battlewagons similarly offend me. :) )

Both of them, a deamon is always a deamon...

New one, if not for the model itself then the possibilities it presents. The old metal one is lovely, but I'm sure they'll keep it on the website in their 'direct only' guise, albeit with a couple of quid price hike. The new one is better for 40k and fantasy, and fantasy needed something other than Belial. It's also a pretty decent model, and will be easy to convert into a stunning model by a bit of plastic kit-bashery (the large number of plastic kits GW are producing makes customised trophy racks a piece of cake), and wings really are a winner.

I think the pros and cons you've listed are slightly biased there. You listed 40k looking as a pro and fantasy options as a con, whereas a lot of people may see that the opposite way round, some might even look at the fact that the prince can be equally used in both without looking out of place. Didn't want that to sound rude, just something I noted even though you say you like both.

Ofcourse I may be biased myself :D. I prefer the new one, I think he looks a lot better, and the different options (and the wings! They're good for my hive tyrants too) and despite the fact he may be a bit more expesive its worth it for the stuff you get in it and how much easier he is to assemble.

Also note that this daemon prince is also for chaos daemons, so it doesn't need armour like one for chaos space marines, so the option to build it without armour is golden

As a note about the (small) price increase as a con for the new prince, I'd like to point out that with all the extra bits you'll have after building one Daemon Prince you could easily make a second one with just a little bit of extra greenstuff. Making it 2 daemon princes for the price of one :)

There aren't any bits specific to Fantasy, there are bits specific to 40k with all the piping and such but there is no reason at all that you cannot use the "Fantasy" axe, sword or hand on the 40k model, I for one used the axe because I reckon its better looking than the swords.

The new ones right arm just looks wierd.. where the hand seems to flow out of his armour.. like wtf mate?

My votes for the new one, I play deamons and I really like the fact that it isn't just a 40k model, as it lets me retire bel'kor who was a bit too small for my liking. Also the large armor bits finally let me finish my blarog to bloodthirster conversion without having to scuplt armor :D

I like the look and the design of the old one, but the plastic and the wings of the new one.

so i voted both

The new one is crud. Looks ridiculous in design - not impressive, not imposing, not intimidating... not EVIL.

Camp evil, but not evil.

But it's plastic so it's useful for parts.

Excepting the bird-flipping claw.

As a purely CSM daemon prince, I think the metal DP is far superior, especially in terms of detail.

As a generic, all-armies DP, the new plastic kit is of course better, but it's got a very WoW feel to it (especially the wings) that I'm not a huge fan of.

The old for me, the sculpt has much better gesture. Most of the new plastic stuff GW makes is nice, but void of that gesture that is so important in making something feel/look alive. I think this gets compromised when you make a kit with many different options.

I will own both, as I really did not like have two of the same model in my army.

Plus, the face on the new one is beyond retarded. As far as your comparison picture goes.

New.
Waist's a little thin, and the heads are a bit naff; but it's plastic, multi-part, suitable for Fatasy and 40K, and from the waist down reminds me of Diablo :shifty:

The new one HAS NO PANTS. Repeat, it HAS NO PANTS. What will the enemy think when they see the Daemon Prince of No Pants flap onto the battlefield? Terror and fear will be outweighed by laughter, I'm thinking.

New one is cartoon chaos that GW has seem to have recently embraced in their designs. Old one all the way.

- More expensive then the previous (large con considering it’s plastic)

This is true only for UK, not Canada or the US. But for North America the plastic kit is only a few dollars cheaper. GW is beyond disgusting.

It may just be me, but I actually prefer metal models. Plastic ones just feel so... light and insubstantial would be the best way to describe it. Also, my plastic ones tend to snap like twigs every time anyone sneezes in their general direction (maybe a slight exaggeration, but they're seriously ridiculously fragile whenever I try to carry them anywhere).

Also, the new one just doesn't have that "evil" look I so cherish in Chaos. The claw is weird looking. I particularly dislike the bare chest with the weird brand on it. That just doesn't look like a hell-spawn meant on destroying the universe to me.

I like the old one much better, the fact that it has the power armor style boots and greaves makes it a better Deamon Prince, in that it's a CSM that's been pemanantly and gloriously risen to a higher plane of existence (the new plastic one must've been half-naked wearing a loincloth when he was raised apparently). and that's to say nothing of the menacing look it's giving

but i like the new one too, though, dont get me wrong. it's okay.

I just think the be'lakor model would make a better WHF deamon prince than it.

I was never a huge fan of the original, but the new one isn't exactly compelling either. I dunno gents, neither really do it for me.

I guess the old one looks a little better, but the overal effect is pretty much the same. Given the usual advantages of a plastic kit, I think the new one's a major improvement.

It's situational, depending on what you want it for. As a CSM player, the old Prince just wins out without question - it's meant to be a transmuted Chaos Lord and that's exactly what it is. Being multipurpose, the new one couldn't afford to be that specialised in design.

But for a Chaos Daemon army, where the Princes are just higher ranking footsoldiers of the Chaos Powers, and could come from anywhere, the new one is undoubtedly cool.

I will agree with those who say that GW's design for Chaos overall is losing it's sinister edge - they're probably trying to appeal outright to the WoW demographic. But it's losing something overall, an aesthetic that its hard to put into words. TBH my favourite non-40K Daemon Prince is Be'lakor - he looks like he's stepped straight out of the pages of Slaves to Darkness. Also, although GW's plastics are the best and most extensive they've ever been, they're also missing something compared to metals or even resin - I think it's the crispness of detail. But, they're durable and slightly easier to, so I guess its swings and roundabouts...

I liked the metal model a lot more: a good, simple, 'classic' design, and well-executed. I find the new model to be silly, cartoonish and lacking in both the sinister and downright weird aspects that I feel should define a well-done GW daemon.

A small hurrah for it being a nice, versatile, conversion-friendly plastic kit, though. Plastic > metal as far as I'm concerned.

I like both. The old for the looks and detail, and the new for the versatility and plastic.

I voted for the new one (I have one myself, it looks awesome) but I will say the metal model does have a lot going for it, it looks more like a Chaos Space marine for one.

But generally I prefer plastic over metal due to the interchangeability of most of the kits and the material being so much easier to work with.

I think their both good and it depends on what you want. While I agree that the new one has an increadibly cartoonish quality to it an experienced modeler can easily convert it into a unique servant of a specific god that is also fairly well detailed. That said straight out of the box the metal one is miles better and more sinister by FAR. Personaly I went for the plastic one for a couple of reasons.

One: my current nurgle army was started to push the limits of my modeling capabilities and I felt I could do the plastic one justice.
Two: Wings having wings in the kit was a HUGE plus for me as they are one of the most standard options.
Three: Economincs, I figured with my bits box I can get a winged Deamon Prince and a Snake/Slug Deamon Prince as well as 2 spawn for gift of chaos for the same price I could get one of the Nurgle deamon princes with wings and have a bunch of bits left over aswell.

The old one. I prefer all-human armies so I wouldn't use it myself, but I can see why someone would. It's a good looking model. OTOH, the new one just looks like a cheap knock-off. It might be plastic, but that doesn't change the fact that it's an ugly model. I'd be better off making my own from green stuff.

I only like the new one for a couple reasons. I like plastic. I like bits. I wanted a right arm with a similar claw design as the old one's left arm. But especially the way I have it posed, with the Defiler skull mask over the face, the scorpion tail creeping around the left side, and the wings enhancing the hulking, menacing stature of the model, I just have to side with the old metal one. I'm going to get one for the bits (and a second Prince, this one from the Violators) and that right arm.

"An opinion pole?" So what, do we tack our thoughts and posts up on it and check back tomorrow? In this age of technology couldn't we just use the 'net? ;)

The older one, hands down.

The new one looks way too cartoonish to me.
