The gaming club in Lund, Sweden, has a traditional apocalypse game the day before christmas every year. This year we tried to start a new tradition with a legendary fantasy game. For a while it looked like it might end up at about 12000 on each side, but because the demon and empire players didn't show it only was 10000 in the end.

On the side of baby burning destruction:

Clan Wistar:

Clan Kasimir:

Warriors from the frozen wastes of Nöbbelöv:

On the side of babykissing order:

Some random high elves, including ghost archers:

And some wood elves, still stalking in the forests at the time of the picture.

The playing field, the ancient fortress Stenmester in the background:

Rules were as following:

3 powerdice, defenders take the two highest.

High elf foot troops start o the board.

Two destruction players start turn one by marching in on the board, the third player comes in as reserve (40k style) on the left flank in front of the wall.

Wood elves also arrive as reserves, but come in from one of the forests. High elf cavalry arrives as reserves from the gate in the wall.

The two towers each have a repeating boltthrower and ten high elf guards with handweapon and shield.

Objectives were the two towers, the well and the gate.

Things start out badly for destruction with a serious traffic jam:

First blood are some giant rats getting stuck in the swanp, followed by some ghost archers getting stuck in loose stones.

Round 2 continues with more jamming:

Some high elves join in:

The chaos warriors arrive without the beloved sorcerer, soon joined by some wood elves having trailed them all the way. Some of the wood elves had their extra sneaky black paint job.

The wood elves manage to surround the chaos warriors:

One of the brave doomwheels manages to break through, only to be shot down by massed arrow fire not much later:

Things are looking grim for the the chaos warriors:

...but the two skaven clans are starting to get stuck in:

Nurgle knights avoid getting boltthrowed to death by getting charged by four chariots:

...which they just save all wounds from, smash a little and win the combat:

Abomination and plaguefurnace have been taking heavy damage, but are still triumphant:

The supreme general leaves his warlitter, takes nine clanrats with him and enters the tower. They kill four guards, but they hold because of steadfast.

Gutter runners charge into combat with boltthrower:

Chaos warriors on foot, in trouble:

About round seven or so I think, the cavalry start getting in the way:

The high elf guards refuse to break. And they don't die too much either. Perhaps this was a job for censer bearers or plaguemonks?

One of the furnaces manages to destroy itself and much of its unit with a misfire. Oops.

Plaguemonks hold against treemand and noble on dragon. Steadfast with two ranks...really?

Chaos warriors mostly dead, except their sneaky sorcerer and his pet dogs, but the skaven horde has overrun most of the defenders on foot:

Main problems at this point is that wood elves still have a dragon and a treeman ready to start eat through the skaven lines, with most of the things able to handle things like that dead. Oh, and a failure to kill more than six of the guards in the only tower destruction actually reached, so technically order holds four out of four objectives. But nevermind, in a game like this everyone wins!

All in all the game flowed well, magic was balanced, had some effect but nothing too crazy. Objectives were a bit too hard to take since they only could be attacked in attacking players turn. The terrain was probably a bit too heavy since many units never saw any action at all.

Now if I could just figure out why the pictures came out as links instead of pictures.

Sounds like a fun game. Ah, the fond memories of my own Plague Furnace self-destructing, netting the opponent tons of combat res and costing me the game... good days... :shifty:

Posting links as pictures is disabled in the Battle Report section for... reasons. Apparently inappropriate use is feared, but in Project Logs it seems to work just fine...

It's like a picture book! Nice! :D

Glad you made things work even when people dropped out, and great to see all those paingted models :)

To be fair to the wistar furnace, it did go through a couple of units before crashing itself. Kasimir did better with theirs though, and they did suck a lot of arrows.

Well I was going to write a proper report to it but the pictures took longer time than I thought and didn't have time. I'm glad you enjoyed it even without extravagant writing.
