Hello and welcome. I have been inspired as of late by the many, many, many brilliant Blood Angels logs on here, so I felt a stab on my part might be warranted.

First off, a tip of my hat to tcraigen (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=130142), ilikebmxbikes (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=226641) and ancient god (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=256215&highlight=ancient+god) for the logs in question.

Anywho, I've loved Blood Angels since 2nd edition blah blah blah...

Iaoth Osz
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/IaothOszFront.jpg
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/IaothOszBack.jpg

Archangel who has power to thwart demons. Osz (OZ) being his birth name and Iaoth his awarded name given By Lord Mephiston after a great battle he fought when an immaterium breach occurred in warp travel. The Cruiser he was travelling in was attacked by those from the warp, killing many battle brothers and the complete compliment of scout trainees that were aboard. It was decide one must have fallen and given in to the foul temptation because none were ever found. The battle lasted 6 days until Osz was able to seal the rift. For his strength and endurance he was named after an ancient librarian of Blood Angel past who was of the librarian internal order of daemon hunters. Iaoth Osz has been assigned to a similar role now, and has shown great strength and hatred towards the beasts of chaos. Those amongst his company pass rumours that he can smell the faintest hint of taint with but the slightest sniff.

Yup, he's pretty much stolen from ilikebmxbikes, but they say its the sincerest form of flattery...

Onto Assault Squad Arrion

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/101_0590.jpg

Arrion's left arm has fallen off repeatedly, so I need to repair it again. Boo. I have another 6 marines to do, I know, but they're so early WIP there isn't much point in showing them!

More to come!

That librarian looks awsome, the blues are especialy well done. The reds are a little too bright for my liking but very well done all the same. Looking forward to seeing more of this soon.

Here they are!

Shamelessly stolen from ilikebmxbikes again...

I really can't wait to complete this guy. He's going to be a Sanguinary Priest, complete with the narthecium. Awesome. He's also going to have a Blood Angel Mk IV helmet... the one with the chalice on the forehead.

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/vet1.jpg

"Hi my name is Bob and I have a mallet! Where's me tent pegs?"
I have to strip this guy, as I painted him quite awhile back, and I much prefer my red method now.

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/vet2.jpg

This one will be holding up the standard from the old Honour Guard set, and as you can tell, is WIP.

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/bloodchampion.jpg

The Blood Champion. Probably going to have a fancy name at some point. I also have to find him a lovely storm shield, as I don't like the one from the masters of the chapter set. I'm seriously thinking of ripping off the Space Hulk shield and sticking it on... Oh the shame!

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/captain.jpg

Captain of undesignated company. I love the pose of the model and I have to decide whether to paint him all in gold, or red with lots of gold... Any ideas guys?

Hey thanks! The red does look really bright I agree. It doesn't in real life, honest. Hopefully I'll take some daylight pictures in the next few days and put them up...

On a side note, if anyone lives in the UK and wants to trade the Master of the Chapter heads, the storm shield, the power sword, the body with the axe and the sternguard bolter arm, feel free to PM me.

Here is the Sanguinary Priest with his head on. I decided to give him a white one. Again, apologies for the quality of the pics.

Nice, I think that the quality of the pics shows enough for us to give Critique. I think that you should take your Assault marines and give them a wash of baal red, it'll make the red more red.

Thanks for your critique! I already have washed them in baal red, I blame the photography more than the actual paint job for the poor look. I'll auto adjust them all and put them up. Thanks again!

He's going to be my blood champion, I've decided. Instead of a combat shield I am going to give him a halo instead, and just say that's where his 5++ comes from. He'll be wielding a bolt pistol in the other arm. I'm going to re-do his eyes again, as it was a rubbish effort. Might make them green too, any thoughts?

BIG PICTURE ALERT

Hi. Say hello to some Death Company!

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/dcpwgroup.jpg

I have an idea that despite being loonies they are still entrusted with power weapons, which by all rights are relics, so they must of been somebody when sane. My thought that to mourn such a passing of a hero not only do they get to keep their shiny weapons, but they have personal heraldry on their shoulder too.

Here are my "normal" Death Company. As normal as can be anyway...

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/101_0595.jpg

I normally always go helmeted when it comes to my marines, seen as though a headshot is a headshot, and I double checked, and marines definitely do not have a secondary head. Either way, I thought the death company would do away with them (on the most part) and it also creates some added character.

I've also limited the highlighting on the black to make them properly dark. Hope you like them!

C+C is always welcome.

Sorry for the triple post, but I have lots to show and there is a picture limit to work around...

Here is my Space Hulk assualt cannon, sans assualt cannon. I'm very pleased with him.
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/SH1.jpg

Yes I intend to use the Space Hulk miniatures in 40k, fully based. They're just too pretty! Although I am going to use Commander Culln's model as the sergeant:
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/commanderterminator.jpg

Fantastic model with only two red scorpion icons. One on the chest I will cover with a purity seal, and one on the storm bolter, which I might file off, or cover up with another icon. I'm not sure.

Here's a prize for all you charming visitors. All the Death Company marines need names, and one could be named after you! Suggestions are welcome, first come first serve, and The chosen name will be written on the base! Sounds like a good prize to me.

Yeah the bases are made myself, just cutting up unused sprues and painting them. It's cheap, looks good and easy! I think I "stole" it from someone else's log on WarSeer!

I like what you've done with the bases - good way to recycle your old sprues.

The yellow on the Assault marines looks nice although I think you could possibly use a devlan mud wash on the armour to give a bit more definition between armour plates.

The DC are looking good - I like the personal heraldry. What are you using to highlight the armour?

Yeah I agree with the yellow armour, it'll be given a once over shortly!

The black armour? Next to nothing. Astronomican grey here and there, but it really is nominal!

I know! It's annoying, and I will get round to filing it off when all that's left are the boring odds and ends.

I am playing my friends' Grey Knights' army tonight (we loaded the blood paint pellets in the bolters) so I'll take some pictures of that too! Here's the list, it's 2,000 points.

Well the game went well, we played "Dawn Raid" from the battle missions book, he was "Dark Eldar" and I tabled him, which was nice. Here are some pictures...

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/MephivsGK.jpg
"Mephiston" charging 4 Grey Knight Terminators, successfully casting (is that the correct term?) Unleash Rage and Sanguine Sword. They all failed their invulnerable saves :) Mephiston also ate the Inquisitor Lord and the Callidus Assassin. Yum.

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/DCvsStern.jpg
My DC bailing out of the rhino and charging headlong into Stern and his Terminator retinue (you gotta love Rage, right?). Needless to say they found the deaths they were seeking...

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/BAvsStern.jpg
I then piled in with everything else my following turn, which was tasty. My captain, thanks to Furious Charge, managed to kill everything off himself.

A very fun game indeed! It also managed to show me how much I needed to paint. Lordy it's a task! Ha.

ECHO ECHO ECHO ECHO ECHO ECHO ECHO

Hello again. It would seem I have lost all semblance of self control and have just painted things willy nilly. Here are some more pics of other things!

Blood Angel arm swaps where feasible, which is fairly straightforward. They'll all get Blood Angel backpacks too.

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/captain1.jpg
My Captain is coming along nicely, but I do need some advice on what to paint the right shoulderpad, and I am not happy with it just being black, so any suggestions would be fantastic!

Due to lack of responses, I shall bring more pictures! Huzzah!

Remember this guy?
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/vet2.jpg

He has an arm!
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/vet4.jpg

The arm is made of three different sets! The shoulderpad from the Death Company set, the arm from the old Honour Guard standard bearer and the hand and sword from the masters of the chapter! Woo. I love his stance.

Finally I have this Veteran too. The red is done here, and the left arm is purposefully left black as remembrance of a former brother that has fallen to the curse.

I really like the photo of the guy with the plasma pistol and power sword. I can't offer much in the way of criticism. Do you base coat your figures before you start? Also, I'd thin down your flesh tones, they're looking a little dry. That happens to me a lot and I'm awful for just letting it go.
I don't really get the 'ginger' joken but whateves.

Hey PMS thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you like the marine, he was just something I knocked up last night!

Yeah I do basecoat, I go through chaos black>mechrite red>blood red>ogryn flesh wash>blazing orange highlight>Baal red washx2. Why does it look like I don't basecoat in some places?

I am going to be re-doing the two SP heads so I'll try watering the flesh tones first, thanks!

The Ginger joke is just a little cookie for my friend if he were to ever bother coming on here (I persist with telling him to do so!) so that's probably why you wouldn't get it :)

Thanks again PrimeMinisterSinister!

I just noticed some bare metal here and there.
Also, I find taking pictures outside gets 100X better results with low res or cantankerous cameras.
More tips: get a fine brush and paint the teeth of your bare headed guys. It's a fast way to make faces look good.
The Death Co. look a little shiny, I'd suggest a matte varnish to bring down the sheen. And if you wanted to highlight the black without making it lighter, go with a dark blue as a highlight rather than grey. Here's a good article on that:
http://www.belloflostsouls.net/2009/10/hobby-back-in-black.html

The Painting Corps is a good site if you want to figure out stuff too.
Keep the brush wet.

superdupermatt
22-09-2010, 11:22
That's not a bad idea actually, highlighting with blue, I'll give it a go tonight and put up the results, necron abyss is VERY dark.

I have varnished the DC already, but I personally like the shiny look!

Yeah you'll see bare metal here and there mainly because I hand basecoat them all and do it in stages, and some places chip so I have to go back over them!

I agree that photos in the day will look better, but sadly I tend to paint late at night and work all through the day.

Thanks again though PMS, I really appreciate it :)

After much thought and pondering, I decided I wasn't ultimately happy with the pose of the Captain model I was using, so I rummaged through my Box o'Bitz and threw some plastic into a blender, added a splodge of glue and got a new model! I also managed to paint him in abooooooout 4 hours. Which is fast by my standards. Here he is

I like what you did with the Captain there, aren't the new Blood Angel kits awesome! Do you have a shot of the back I'm curious how the cape went on him. One suggestion, paint the blood drops on the chest plate something different than gold, might help break up the monotone colour a little or maybe add in a little silver here and there for interest.

Looking at your other models you see lots of colour but this one seems a little plainer (and the Captain should be the most over the top armour as a Blood Angel since he had longer to add to it).

Nice log so far any army shots? Nice to put the battle report pics in too btw.

Thanks for your kind words and quick responses! I am happy with the way I've progressed! The bad news however, is that I have moved to Cardiff and left all my gubbins at my Mothers, so it shall be a while before any more images emerge, although there isn't much progress to report anyway. Ha thank you you're very kind, I assume you are mentioning Eggroll's (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=279423) log? It is a wonder to look at, I must admit.

It's Lelith from the new Dark Eldar range, but I agree she does look very similar in pose to the Wardancers, they are both have very fluid poses!

I like what you did with the Captain there, aren't the new Blood Angel kits awesome! Do you have a shot of the back I'm curious how the cape went on him.

You mean like this?

http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/Blood%20Angels/backofcaptain.jpg

If you want to see any other angles, let me know. Also, that red splodge, is invisible in real life so I don't know why it is making an appearance.:eyebrows:

Looking at your other models you see lots of colour but this one seems a little plainer (and the Captain should be the most over the top armour as a Blood Angel since he had longer to add to it).

Yes that was something I had given thought too, that the jewels need seeing too, I'll get round to it. I agree that perhaps he looks a bit bland, but then he'll be my only guy in gold, so that should help make him stand out a bit more? Hmm.

Nice log so far any army shots? Nice to put the battle report pics in too btw.

I'll throw up my entire collection later tonight, it's quite the grey orgy I can assure you.

Also people, I need some advice, I have two ideas for an honour guard, one utilising the masters of the chapter models, and then one made out of vanguard models. On one hand the MoC models are superbly detailed but look quite static, which looks odd next to the Captain and then the VV models aren't as detailed, but look more in keeping with the Captain. Here are pics to explain.

Masters of the Chapter:

Vanguard Veterans:

Thanks for the back shot. Very nice looking stuff all around. The Vanguard are ok but I like the regalness of the Chapter Masters. I assume everything is going to get jump packs though which means the Chapter Masters won't look as good IMHO. Still have life as a foot Honour Guard though.

Yes they would all get the single thruster jump packs without the wings (a step too far in my opinion)

Thanks for the input CoTW!

Doing the good ol' combat squad running forward, the other 5 standing around taking guard/having a snooze. Done the red on 6/10, I can't batch paint as it bores me, so perhaps takes longer than others to do a squad. They are gonna have the melta/multimelta combo. Yum.
Also, ignore the blue hands on the last two, I was experimenting with having the squad designation on the left hand too, and it looked rubbish, so just clearning it up now. The red however, I am very pleased with.

The left hand is from the terminator Librarian model, as I used the combi-plasma with him, I had it laying around!
The bolter arm is from the dead marines set, again I used something else on the actual model, so had it laying around. It's something different isn't it!

I like your helmet tossing marine, one question though, where is that right arm from?

I think your Blessed Sergeant is one of my favourites of your models so far. That head on the Sanquinary Guard looks great and the banner with the tabard (is that the right word?) balance with it perfect.

I like your helmet tossing marine, one question though, where is that right arm from?

The right arm is from the Dead Space Marine counter set thingy I got direct from GW. It comes separately from the marine its meant to be used with. Sergeant Romero's bolt pistol arm is from the same set.

Yeah I am pleased with him. I just have to sort out some suitable arms for him now. He'll be the only guy with a back banner so he'll be recognisable, but I may have some problems with WYSIWYG players if the sergeant it meant to have a jump pack...

In other news.

PROGRESS: I HAS IT

Brother Nicholaus has frequently been a thorn in Romero's plans. Although when able, he has been dutiful in his role, he has on frequent occasion just slipped into a deep sleep. Sanguinary Novitiate Marius believes it to be a differing side of the flaw coming through, where Sanguinius' peaceful and serene nature takes over. Romero just thinks he's lazy.

Here you go champ:
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/101_0629.jpg
From left to right, starting from a chaos black undercoat.
1) Mechrite red basecoat. Just get an even coverage, but even then its not the be all and end all. I have no idea what that black splodge is.
2) Blood Red layer x 2. Make sure the paint is thinned with a bit of water. I applied it by using the drybrush technique, as it gives a good coverage. The 2nd layer makes the colour look nice and vibrant, so don't worry about the 1st looking a bit rough.
3) Ogryn flesh wash. Nice and heavy, but make sure there are no major pooling areas, you want it in all the recesses!
4) Blazing orange highlight and Baal Red wash. The highlight on the sharpest ridges, and then use the wash to make everything look nice and smooth and tie it all together.

I suppose you could go one more highlight, but I like to keep it as it is. You then sort out the metal parts and the lenses when you're ready.

Hope that helps! :)

Brother Gabriel is the newest member of Squad Romero, and has proven to be reliable and willing to assist his sergeant. Some say he is a little too sycophantic and head-strong for his own good, however.
(I tried to show his sycophancy with him pointing in the same direction as Romero is shooting "hey boss! you shot that cultist good!" etc)

I'll do the lenses in time, I just can't choose between green or blue atm.

Nice tutorial on the red. Go with blue lenses. Green with red looks nice but it also looks like Christmas...

As for the running legs I've been adding tiny amounts of greenstuff to their feet to go with a little glob of super glue. The green stuff holds it in place while the super glue dries and helps bond too. None of my MkIV or MkII have broken off yet and I've played about 8 games with them (plus the carrying to and from the store). I also have a tendency to toss models on the tiled floor when painting because I'm clumsy like that sometimes and no one has broken off their base yet...

I don't want to make this complicated, but I have two sets of gold that I have used. One recipe for my captain and then a different one for the gold used on the honour guard above... The second is considerably quicker but I do much prefer the gold on my captain. Let me know and I'll sort you out with a list :)

Ok I am home so I can safely type without the fear of auto-correct (it's a love/hate relationship with my iPhone...)
The gold on the captain is as follows:
1) Chaos black
2) Tin Bitz - get it in the nooks and crannies!
3) Tin Bitz + Dwarf Bronze - layer leaving the 2nd layer in the recesses
4) Tin Bitz + Dwarf Bronze + Burnished Gold - layer again (this will be the actual gold)
5) Wash of Devlan Mud - make sure it doesn't pool!
6) Extreme highlight of Mithril Silver + Burnished Gold - use sparingly!

The other gold is as follows
1) Tin Bitz
2) Dwarf Bronze
3) Burnished Gold highlight
4) Devlan Mud wash

Ok so I think I am facing a bit of blood red burnout, and was just thinking of a side project... One that's probably done endlessly, but something I've always wanted to do... Have a unit representing each Legion! Woo. I want to have a different unit representing each Legion with its trait, examples being Ultramarines tactical squad, Blood Angels assault squad, Alpha Legion scouts (coz they're sneaky), Space Wolves grey hunters. Sadly I seem to come a bit stuck after this, so would greatly appreciate input helping me fill the gaps, and take suggestions on what Legion should be what etc. I perhaps might use a librarian for TSons, and a Chaplain for Word Bearers, but any other suggestions are welcome.

So the breakdown so far;

I: Dark Angels - undecided, but with their penchant for plasma, that'll be a theme, perhaps.
II: Lost Legion - Emperor's Pointy Sticks?
III: Emperor's Children - undecided I have no knowledge on any specialisation other than "perfection"
IV: Iron Warriors - devastators based on their preference for siege. Any ideas for what load out?
V: White Scars - Bike squadron using the mail order set and an attack bike?
VI: Space Wolves - Grey Hunters, using the GW set
VII: Imperial Fists - devastators based on their preferenec for siege. Probably lascannons?
VIII: Night Lords - assault marines (very much up for debate)
IX: Blood Angels - assault marines of course!
X: Iron Hands - tactical squad using the mail order set and perhaps the FW character sprue
XI: Lost Legion - up for suggestions as to what they can be!
XII: World Eaters - assault marines without jump packs with axes from FW?
XIII: Ultramarines - 'classic' tactical squad with flamer and missile launcher.
XIV: Death Guard - errrrr I have no knowledge on these chaps apart from being dogged. I'll use the MK III Iron Armour set from FW to represent these guys, probably. Suggestions please!
XV: Thousand Sons - Librarian
XVI: Luna Wolves - Terminator squad - justarian?
XVII: Word Bearers - Chaplain
XVIII: Salamanders - tactical squad with melta gun and multimelta! All bare headed with dark skin (not coal black - silly GW!)
XIX: Raven Guard - Assault Squad, all bare headed with pale skin
XX: Alpha Legion - either a scout squad or those Black Templar neophyte squads? Not sure. I want to show they use different methods.

I'll predominantly be working on the loyalist legions... I'll be buying 2-3 units on Monday (payday woo!) so quick responses would be lovely!

I am thinking first off Space Wolves, Ultramarines and Imperial Fists to start, only because they are easily bought?

Thanks in advance!

Hello all!

I have sort of lost of painting mojo, and what I have been painting, has not been WH40k related (namely that Slaaneshi guy from fantasy, I forget his name). The only real news is that I have re-based my miniatures, as I didn't like the previous effect. I have however started on a Sanguinor model;
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/photo-1.jpg
I don't like the fact that on the "official" model he is holding a sanguinary cup, so I am giving him a double handed sword from the SG set and I am going to replace the death mask with a normal helmet, as again, he doesn't have that rule either. I like the quick and easy gold the washes have created too!

Also, here is an Ultramarine I have done as a tester, let me know what you guys think...
http://i875.photobucket.com/albums/ab318/superdupermatt/ultra-1.jpg
This one shows off the blue a little better...

He's WIP, I am going to go back to work on his face, as it annoys me. Any pointers? I really struggle with skin.

His shoulder paldron is the English flag, the unit of 5 will each have the Welsh, Scottish, Irish and English flags as heraldry, then the Justicar will have the British flag. :D

Face is ok though a little hard to tell from that angle. What I do to keep things simple is start with dark flesh, heavy highlight of dwarf flesh, then wash with ogryn flesh. After that re-highlight with dwarf and maybe a little elf. For the eyes I paint them dark flesh a little bigger than skull white to give them more depth. I also use dark colours instead of black for the eyes as it looks more interesting and your pupil isn't the biggest part of your eye.

He looks fine as is but to make him stand out a bit more I'd suggest a bit of blue on him. I assume the tabard would have been but instead maybe you can try doing the shoulder pad rims. Not a lot of blue but enough to make him stand out in the crowd of silver. Oh and drill out the storm bolter :p

Force axe looks cool, what colour did you use for the shaft?

Yeah the tabard was going to be blue. I plan to cover him in more purity seals (coz you can't be too pure) as they are blue... I was going to paint an arm blue but I forgot!

Yes I am going to drill out the barrels :P

The shaft is just blood red twice, baal red wash and then a blood red drybrush. Lovely.

The green sword is as followed;
Goblin green basecoat, scorpion green highlight, rotting flesh highlight, skull White extreme highlight, dark angels green wash. It didn't go well with the force axe, and to me looks like the skin of a cucumber, but oh well!

I have to admit, as much as I love my Blood Angels, I am REALLY enjoying painting Grey Knights. Maybe it is the break from red, perhaps it's the easy paint job...

I found a spare dreadnought (I know, a spare dreadnought!?) and painted him in GK livery.

Ok so this month I picked up a Sanguinary Guard box and a GKPA box, and thought "Hmm... they could easily be made into plastic Librarians - my kitbash prowess knows no bounds!" then I realised that it's probably already done.... And the fact that Cardiff GW is running a painting competition this month swiftly changed my mind back to doing normal Sanguinary Guard... So here is the pic of the one guy;

I am very happy with him so far. As you can tell, I have pushed the boat out and even wrote LETTERS on the parchment! Crazy stuff indeed. I am also pleased with his face, which is normally something I struggle with... this time I took my time and I think it shows!
I do need some ideas on painting the staff of the halberd, as I can't think of a decent colour, originally it was going to be necron abyss highlighted with mordian blue then washed with asurmen, but then I worry that introducing blue might bring too many colours.

Also, does the daemonette head look ok??

Ahhhh I missed your thread. Nice job on the writing, I really can't handle detail that fine for nuts. I normally use Scab red or similar dark red colours for the handles on my weapons- it goes quite nicely with the gold armour. I just finished my Sanguinary Guard box, and used Dwarf Bronze, Blood Red, Chaos Black & Scorpion Green for the main colours. They go quite nicely together.

Where did you get inspiration for those from? I still start laughing every time open this page; I'm really going to have to do the same to a couple of my squads, with a traffic light on my Stormraven's base! Or a paring meter. Or a roadside light. Come to think of it, I bet I could find traffic cones on the right scale...

I think it helps to have quite an oddball sense of humour. A bunch of traffic cones would be PERFECT! I did think about making an imperial guard into a traffic warden, or a lollipop man... endless and endless thoughts!

Do a stop sign and put a ork standing next to it: "huh?" "Wozzat ting?"

A perfect objective marker. Maybe you could put a IG guardsman aiming the ork in the back as well!! :D

For the traffic lights, In america, aren't the traffic lights hanging on a rope? Well, in finland or in europe, the lights are on a pole... Then you need to put a sign "Do not cross" For the walkway FTW :D

Bought these on an impulse, its something I've always wanted to try. Yes they are Imperial Fists, yes they are wearing Black Templar tabards. The way I see it, the IF still honour Sigismund by maintaining a unit with his iconography. Well, that is my excuse anyway. :P
They will all have bare heads to add some more personslity, the heraldry shields will be white to compensate for the lack of veteran helmet (not that wearing tactical dresdnought armour isn't a big enough status symbol!).

They went together fairly well, some trimming here and there. The cowling had to be added too, as it looked a bit odd without it.

Forgive my naiveity but wouldn't devlan mud make the metal look dirty? Or are you suggesting washing it in certain places?

I ordered I bunch of stuff from FW and it got despatched this morning (Monday 11th), when should I expect it to arrive? I went first class postage.

I did the same a week or so ago and it turned up within two days. I should stress, however, that this was fairly unprecedented. My previous experience of FW is that it takes about a week. Essentially its up to the whims of royal mail... Good Luck! :)

EDIT// Too much Devlan Mud could make it look dirty but to be honest it would probably shade it like a non gunmetal colour. Think tin or bronze or copper. Take a look at the metals on my deathwing for examples. Although they were done with tin bitz and brown ink the idea is similar.

Thanks guys, the board was originally red so it's taking a good few coats of white to get it sorted. I went through 6 pots of skull white and I'm not done yet! Gonna gloss varnish the lot and add snow too, and make the green scenery all rusted. Then gonna decide on a scheme for the downed valkerye(sp?).

Thanks for the input regarding the raptor also. It was dark angels green -> gretchin green -> devlan mud. Gonna try two more methods tomorrow so stay tuned!

I would recommend that you do something with the base on that raptor captain. It would significantly improve it. Also, I would go over some of the armour with the base coat to clean it up, it just looks messy with the amount of wash you have on it. If you want it to look dirty and beat up try some sponge weathering and pigments.

The bases will be done at the end, so they will look uniform. I am thinking snow bases like the gaming board. The armour is heavily washed to give the grimy look, and I doubt I'll have the confidence to go over again (i'll mess up the shade of green that I like). Thank you for your input though :).

Progress! I fubar'd the left arm, it is over extended, but lessons learned and all that. I wanted to play safe in terms of the pose with this being my first contemptor. If I do get a second one, I'll be more adventurous with the articulated joints.

Impressive Dread Mob there buddy. I love my little Dreadnoughts too - Somehow, I've managed to accumulate six over the years, and now the Contemptor is tempting me. Damn FW!!!!

Thanks dude! I have 8 in total!

I can't recommend the contemptor enough, it's amazing. I can't get over the fact that all the joints are poseable (for want of a better word). My next one will be magnetised to death!

Now do you remember the snow board I was making? It's finished!

I've also made some buildings for a new monster 8'x4' cities of death board. I'll post images as soon as I get them off facebook (unless you want to search "games workshop newport". Lovely!
