Greetings! After seeing the new HE models, I've decided I want to build an balanced army around them. How's the following list for 3k? Please post feedback!

Heroes: (528pts - 17.7%)
Noble (183pts)
[General; Great Eagle; Great Weapon; Armour of Caledor; Obsidian Trinket]

flies around lending a hand where needed

Mage (160pts)
[Lvl 2; Ring of Corin; Ironcurse Icon]

nullifies those heroes. Ironcurse icon for stone throwers

Mage (185pts)
[Lvl 2; Silver Wand; Ring of Fury]

a bit more magic oomph

Core: (762pts - 25.4%)
Lothern Sea Guard (386pts)
[27 Sea Guard; Shields; Full Command; Banner of the Eternal Flame]

main reason I'm starting HE. 2 bunkers.

Lothern Sea Guard (376pts)
[27 Sea Guard; Shields; Full Command]

Special: (1309 - 43.6%)
Ellyrian Reavers (217pts)
[10 Reavers; Bow; Musician]

since I'm getting the models, why not use them? Anti-warmachine, flankers.

Sword Masters of Hoeth (156pts)
[10 Sword Masters; Musician]

2 MSU units of these guys as a flanking threat. Should attract enemy fire easily away from the main combat blocks. If left undisturbed, will be deadly.

Sword Masters of Hoeth (156pts)
[10 Sword Masters; Musician]

White Lions of Chrace (405)
[24 Lions; Full Command; Lichebone Pennant]

main anchor of the army.

Dragon Princes of Caledor (375)
[10 Princes; Full Command; Banner of Arcane Protection]

a *very* hard-hitting train to break some lines and tough cookies.

Rare: (400pts - 13.3%)
Great Eagles (200pts)
[4 Eagles]

mainly anti-warmachine/skirmishers

Reaper Bolt Thrower (200pts)
[2 Bolt Throwers]

for those ugly monsters.

Total: 2999pts

Overall I like the list, it's very well done.

You went a little light on heroes, only thing I could really wish for here is a BSB, reroll for ALL failed LD tests means a HE will almost never panic/fear/terror/break. The General on the Eagle is cool with 4 Eagles as backup he should be sitting pretty unless you faceplam with him.

Core is solid, though the units are expensive. I prefer 1 unit of Seaguard and 1 massive unit of spearmen.

The sword masters are my biggest complaint, I just don't have any faith in 2 units of 10, put these units together and I think they'll preform their roll much better.

Reavers are expensive and you took 10, I'd take 2 chariots over this unit any day.

It's a solid list, but I just can't ever field my HEs without an archmage anymore. We hit brutally hard with any of our specials, and even our core spears can wreck units with ASF re-rolls, but we are incredibly fragile and lack any sort of effective range weaponry.

Magic fills both roles for us, and the synergy between HE and Lore of Life is just sick.

In your first list I would split the reavers into two units of five - thats 2 warmachines dead a turn as opposed to one. I also do not beleive four eagles are neccesary when you have warmachine hunters already, maybe drop two of them for another bolt thrower? :)

The list looks great. If you don't mind my asking, how are you going to make the noble on the eagle?

Agreed, keep to about 3-4 warmahcine hunters. You might not encounter any warmachines/lone charecters floating around so having 6 warmachine hunters is a bit extreme.

And 3 bolt throwers usually works perfectly for me

If you play this in tournaments you need to get 1 more point into core for the min 750 (25%), currently many tourneys would rule your list illegal. I like the revised list.

Since others have helped all I' m going to say is you should think about a Lord, even one on a Eagle with various get-out will greatly enhance you army. (I just figured Prince on G.E to stay with your theme.

Thanks for the feedback guys!

I have another question, if you don't mind:

How would you field these units - in what formation?

The only one which is self evident to me is the spearmen in a 10x4, but what about the rest? Sea guard? 13x2? What about the 24 lions and swordmasters?

I have yet to play a game in 8th, so I'm not sure.

Thanks!

As for the noble on the eagle, I'm thinking of using the body of the prince on the griffon from the Island of Blood set with either a wood elf eagle or a standard eagle, whichever fits best. I don't have either yet so I only time will tell ;-)

Stupid browser, had a long list of things and then lost it....

here are the cliff notes.

Sea Guard 6x4 and a bit
SwordMasters 7x3 and a bit
White Lions 7x3 and a bit

not sold on horde for elves/ think 2 units would be more flexible and still pump out the same amount of attacks.

Have a 2500 list if you want a different perspective.

wow you are running a flock of eagles. i personally don't like that many but that's me.

otherwise, looks like an interesting list, should do well.

i don't think elves need a horde as we get the extra attack rank anyways and re rolls for hits most times, i agree that there is more advantage to 2 units rather than a horde.

hmm...

so two units of 21 spearmen in 7x3 with full command? or 5x4?

Oh and here's another variant with an archmage, following one of the proposals:

Lords: (11.5%)
Archmage (345pts)
[General; Lvl4; Folariathís Robe; Loremasterís Cloak]

nigh invulnerable bar magical cc and shooting attacks

Heroes: (305pts - 10.2%)
Mage (155pts)
[Lvl 2; Ring of Corin]

Noble (150pts)
[ABSB; Armour of Caledor; Sword of Might]

Core: (765pts - 25.5%)
Lothern Sea Guard (337pts)
[24 Sea Guard; Shields; Full Command; Banner of the Eternal Flame]

Spearmen (214pts)
[21 Spearmen; Full Command]

Spearmen (214pts)
[21 Spearmen; Full Command]

Special: (1235 - 41.2%)
Tiranoc Chariots (170s)
[2 Chariots]

Sword Masters of Hoeth (345pts)
[21 Sword Masters; Full Command]

White Lions of Chrace (345)
[21 Lions; Full Command]

Dragon Princes of Caledor (375)
[10 Princes; Full Command; Banner of Arcane Protection]

Rare: (350pts - 11.6%)
Great Eagles (150pts)
[3 Eagles]

Reaper Bolt Thrower (200pts)
[2 Bolt Throwers]

Total (3000pts)

Setup i like with my bsb is Armour of Caledor, Dawnstone, Great weapon. Comes in at 168 2+ re-roll armor with S6 from GW (still get re-rolls to hit)

I think the spearmen work better in 5x4 blocks still get all those attacks but you have an extra rank to break steadfast or get steadfast.

Silver Wand to give an extra spell to the Archmage is cheap and useful.

looks like a great list only problem i can see is in the second variation is tht u've lost alot of your speed that u had with the reavers they can stop huge block of infanty by darting in then retreating as in tge battle for blood island battle report
