Hi all, well I am finally going to take the plunge and start my Security Force. I am going to build a 300pt force:

Captain. Projectile rifle, pistol, kinetic armour, enhanced targetting and room clearance.
Trooper. Projectile rifle, pistol, kinetic armour, smoke grenades medic and room clearance.
2 Troopers. Projectile rifle, pistol, kinetic armour, smoke grenades, energy grenade (one each) and room clearance.
Trooper. Pistol, kinetic armour, gauss rifle, sniper scope, weapons training and room clearance.

These guys come to a total of 303points. Model-wise I am going to use a mixture of Space Marine Scouts and Cadian Shock Troops with Pig Iron Heads. I also want to use the Faction Wars weapon packs; I grabbed a pack of some of the first sculpts at Colours (see bottom of pic). I have a couple of other models in mind for possible exo-suits and vehicles down the line but first things first.

Here's a little pic just to show what I have so far...

...I will start with the sniper and maybe the medic then go from there. Plus I need to wait till the weapon packs are available as I need more projectile rifles.

P.S. For those who don't know what Faction Wars is its basically a squad sized skirmish game where players can customise their warriors with a range of wargear, weapons, armour and skills options. Find out more here (http://www.factionwars.co.uk/)...including quick start rules.

Well I have made a bit of progress with the first figure for my security force, the sniper.

He still needs GS and his arms and head are held on by white-tak in the pic. he sniper scope was very fiddly to fix in place and I am still half expecting it to fall off so I will probably secure it with a bit of GS. I am also planning to give him some elbow and knee pads as well as a collar to help the head sit right.

Have you had a chance to play Faction Wars yet? how is it?

I have played a couple of really small games with 3-6 figs a side and it works really well. Something I do like is the way hits and damage work out.

You roll a number of D10s equal to the weapons rate of fire and add the models targeting stat to each and apply any modifiers. You then compare it to the hit table and you either miss or cause either a glancing, penetrating or devastating hit. Penetrating hits are obviously more likely to cause damage than glancing hits while devastating hits are instant death.

No models have a wounds stat, instead you roll a D10 and add the weapons damage rating with the result of either a near miss (fail to wound), dazed (model knocked down and can test to recover each turn) or a penetrating hit (model either killed outright or knocked down but can be healed by another model with either first aid or medic skills).

A similar thing works with the vehicle rules, a vehicle can be damaged but if you have an engineer/mechanic then them can try to repair it if they can reach it. Those sort of tactical choices add a new dimension compared to 40k.

Update time...Trooper Wilson, my sniper, is finished...
...he just needs a lick of paint.

I am going to make up the medic next then paint them together, but first I want to finish converting the bodies of my Squats for my other plog.

it came out very nice, slap some paint on the mini and it will be barely recognizable as a SM scout.

That's a good job. I've been interested in Faction Wars for a couple of months - I think one of the developers has joined Warseer. The different factions in the game have some great depth to them - the background is much more social than political.

Looking good. I see that he still suffers from ECBS.

Extreme Crotch Bulge Syndrome. It is a growing problem among GW minis. (strangely, even the female models seem to suffer from it)

lol though I think it's an armoured cod-piece...maybe they are trying to intimidate the opposition

Update time again! Here's Trooper Sven, the Medic...

...he has turned out quite well I think. Obviously there isn't much at the moment to mark him out as a Medic but there will once he gets painted. I just got my weapon pack order (available here (http://www.factionwars.co.uk/Store/)) so I will start the next guy soon and hopefully by the end of the month I will have my full 300pt team. I can then paint these guys up and start on their opposition...

that is so cool mate. I'm doing similar things in my traitor guard army although not as successfully as here1

Update time, the first of the two vanilla troopers is done...well I just need to seal the sand on the base.

Nothing too special with this guy but I am thinking of attempting a different pose with at least one of the next two chaps...maybe the captain.

Very nice, solid conversions - have you had a chance to slap any paint on them yet?

Cheers MaxSigmund, thats what I was going for...nothing too fancy. No paint as yet as I was planning on painting the whole squad of 5 together but I am tempted to build up a beastie I purchased from Hasslefree and then paint them up so I can start playing the odd small bug hunt style game...hmm...

again looking lovely. such simple models but so cool looking (and not specifically GW either.)

That's what I like about them - they're obviously GW, but they've been used very effectively for something else.

Nice mash-up conversion, get some paint on there and I'm sure they'll look great!

Thanks for the kind words! I was hoping for a non-GW look yet keeping the same kinda style.

I have finally finished building my small Security Force!...well I just need to base the last two. You can see my Sergeant and the last trooper.

Group shot to follow...

And the group shot...

I do have a few ideas for what I want to include to build my force up to 600/700pts but you will just have to wait and see what they are, plus I need to paint these chaps. First though I want to finish building their opponents...

I've started putting these guys together, I decided to change the bases on all my figs as the cool gang-ways of the Tablescape terrain (http://www.tablescape.co.uk/Catalogue/Industrial/IndustrialRange.htm) (I intend to use) aren't wide enough for the round-lipped bases, doh! These figs have hardly any mould lines, I struggled to see them most of the time which is great but they come with a metal block under their feet which is a bit of a pain to cut off, make sure you have a saw handy. They come in a video size case so with the addition of some foam this should make a handy carry case.

Here's a quick scale comparison shot...

I'd say they are quite similar in size as the SF guy is squating slightly, though he is a little beefier.

Hopefully I should get some more of my 300pt Grand Family force done and then finish the rest by the end of next week. Then I can see if I can find an opponent at my LGC for a game.

Well I finally managed to grab a paint brush and slap some colour on the Grand Family figs. I came up with a 300 point force as a starter and decided to have a crack at Luthor (evil looking chap in a wheel chair).

A quick group shot.

I am planning on starting to paint a big bug-monster (http://www.hasslefreeminiatures.co.uk/pack.php?pack=1035) next followed by my Security Force.

Anyone got any suggestions for a colour scheme on the bug?

I have combined my project logs into one so check my sig to see how they finish up.
