We have been betrayed

It has been so long since I have been able to articulate my thoughts.
We were the force that reunited humanity. The foundations of this empire were built on our work. Our bodies are its bricks, our blood it’s mortar, our pain it’s birthing cry, and it is being handed to scribes and taxmen whilst our Emperor turns his back and discards us like a broken shield.

Well we will not stand and see this happen. My eyes have been opened by the Red Angel and now I see the truth it turns my stomach. The death of my brothers is meaningless? The blood we have spilled for this “false” Emperor will not go unremembered.

A fuse was lit at Istvaan and we follow the path it has laid out for us across the galaxy to Terra. Every death is on His hands, every drop of blood spilled is on His conscience.
This will be hard. Hard and dangerous. We will fight, and we will die. But we will succeed.

There are many worlds between us and the Betrayer, but we are the World Eaters and death follows in every footstep.

Greetings fellow gamers

This is the first time I've decided to actually blog the construction of an army, and since a friend (if your reading this then hello Phil!) and I are planning to go to the Throne of Skulls next year we thought we'd jump on the Heresy era bandwagon.
After many discussions and browsing of codecii it was decided-Phil would field Luther's Dark Angels and I would field Angron's boys in white.

Now I'm not one of those who can build things straight from the box. Everything has to have some conversion work done to it (for examples see my IG army here (http://www.pbase.com/mark_kilburn/patrian121st))
So what to do to make the World Eaters stand out? Make them bigger of course!
I've got to thank the many people who've pioneered the truescale/artscale look for the inspiration, and hope that my interpritation will in some way inspire others.

Anyway lets start with the list itself.
I'll be using the Space Wolf Codex as I think that this best represents the World Eaters after Istvaan, but before they all became frothing loonies. Plus it let me field the entire army in drop pods!

Captain Vortigern-[wolf lord] TDA, 2x Chainfists
-4x Devourers [wolfguard] TDA, Frostblade
-Drop pod

Dreadnought-Assault cannon
-Drop pod

Ravager squad [10 grey hunters] 2xmelta gun
-Drop pod
Ravager squad [10 grey hunters] 2xmelta gun
-Drop pod
Ravager squad [10 grey hunters] 2xplasma gun
-Drop pod
Ravager squad [10 grey hunters] 2xflamer
-Drop pod

Destroyer squad [5 long fangs] 4xmissile launcher
-Devourer [wolf guard] TDA, cyclone missile launcher
-Drop pod

Now onto the photo's

I'm still undecided on the basing for the army, so I'll probably get them all to the "finished" state and then base them all together for consistancy.

First squad is finished

Dreadnought ready for painting

Second squad ready for paint

First Devourer (waiting for shoulder pads from Maxmini)

And because someone is bound to ask- size comparison shot

C+C welcome

Excellent work! I love the heavy weapons, quite a novel approach. The studs work because they seem very brutal and ad-hoc, but I think that for the helmets you should have taken a different approach for the studs. The big blockish studs seem too large for the helmets. I recommend pin heads.

03-10-2010, 11:52
These are fantastic! You've clearly put a lot of work into them to make them so scary looking!

The only thing I'd have done differently is the dreads legs- I'd have the knee joints facing forwards but that's a matter of taste I think.

Keep it up, I'll be watching!

03-10-2010, 18:18
Wow! i love thesed models the crisp colour in the blue is amazing, im working on a similar true scale project except mine arent world eaters mine are a post heresy chapter, i also like what you've done with the dread that whole backwards knee joint i never thought of that i might have to steal that idea, could you give a tutorial on the way you do your true scaling and that blue please?

spot on with these in my opinion.

04-10-2010, 21:10
Thanks for the replies guys! rest assured updates are coming, started to slap some paint on the Dreadnought last night and he should hopefully be almost done by thursday.

As for the sizing I use a combination of several peoples ideas.
The legs are standard terminator legs with the recesses filled. The body is an Assault marine torso with the eagle wings filed off, cabling added and a 1mm plasticard spacer to increase the depth of the body. This is glued to the legs, and a new belt fashioned from a strip of thin (I think it's 0.2mm) plasticard.

For me the Devourer is the right size, after all It's still the same size marine, the armour is just bulkier, so the model retained the same height as the PA marines by adding a spacer to the waist and then bulking out the armour.

Rest assured tutorials will folow when the next PA squad is built (gotta by me some forgeworl red scorpian sets so I can mix-n-match MKIV and MKV in the squads-hence no squad markings yet)
As will close ups of the dreadnought's weaponry (yes those are hands holding the triggers, DO NOT ask how much swearing was involved!) and details within the next few days when he's finished.

Oh yeah...any suggestions for a name for him?

04-10-2010, 21:17
These guys are really cool mate, especially the dreadnought, that is very impressive.

05-10-2010, 02:54
Names for the dread:

Skrahn, Dhort, Harle, Barsk, Wrathe, Darkhe, Tyche, Stolle, Gharte, Wroath, Wronde, Krast, Fleiste, Graste, Lorg, Keth, Sairkh, Ehren.

these are just a few names from the horus heresy artbooks

05-10-2010, 16:51
Okay…First set of proper updates
After having a day off work today (oh the perils of having to work Saturdays!) I decided to knuckle down and get the dreadnought finished.

Taken me most of the day but I think he’s now at the stage where I’m happy to game with him, but there are a few details that could be added/tidied. Any suggestions for the left shoulder guard? Thinking a GS scroll nameplate, but any other ideas would be welcome!

Ladies and gentlemen I present for your enjoyment the World Eater Dreadnought Chlothar

Here’s some detail shots for all those who wanted close ups of the arms/legs

And a little packet from Maxmini arrived this morning so the Devourer will be next onto the painting bench when second squad are done.
My only other thought is- I deliberately ordered the Terminator pads without tassles as I’ve never liked that look, but how does Chainmail hanging under the pads sound?

More to come

05-10-2010, 17:25
They look really good however I can't help but think of the walkers out of matrix when I see your dreadnought :)

05-10-2010, 20:59
wow!

those are some of the best true-scales i've seen to date.

that dreadnought looks especially brutal and cool, i really like what you've done to the arms and legs (chicken legs ftw!)

uhm, what are the terminator heavy flamers with meltaguns/plasma guns? are they special or heavy weapons?

07-10-2010, 08:11
They look superb. Not only converted brilliantly, but painted equally as good. I really like the way you have created the heavy weapons.

And so we assemble for the push to Terra.
Amid the burned and shattered ruins of this city we are baptised and reborn. Baptised in the blood of innocents. Reborn in the true image of our father and unleashed upon the Imperium to free mankind from the shackles that the Betrayer has bound them in.
The slave doesn’t know he lives in servitude and pain. The slave is blind to the betrayals and suffering he is forced to endure at his masters whims.

Today we fought beside my father, and the Red Angel was a wonder to behold. Blood running from Gorefather and his unrestrained fury unleashed as the survivors lashed at us in their dying spasms. A wounded animal, terrified and backed into a corner, randomly striking out in pain and anger, not knowing or caring why just desperate to exact some revenge as we tore the heart from them.
At the height of the battle, amid the ruins of Tibannopolis I had the honour of slaying the corpulent and corrupt Primagos of Rosillia. A bloated and feeble man, surrounded by his baying sycophants, he died as many of his people had under the yoke of the Betrayer, naked, weeping and without dignity or honour.

Thus were the streets of Rosillia cleaned with innocent blood. For blood is the source of power, and the blood of an innocent spilled in anger is where the true power lies. Death now stalks the stars, and his gaze, like ours is centred on the rotten heart of this Imperium, and the Betrayer who sits there playing with his slaves like a spider toys with its food.

Sooo…..update time then.
It’s been a little while, but even with real life doing it’s best to get in the way I’ve managed to get some more work done on Captain Vortigern’s Speartip.
Basing has been started on the completed figures, going with a grey/brown urban rubble base for ease and consistency.
The Devourers are done, Vortigern is very much a PIP and I now have 5 (yes 5!) of the 7 Drop Pods in need. 2 of them are assembled and the other 3 still languish in their boxes (damn real life creeping up on me again!)

Now onto the pics.
First up the WIP shots of the devourers (now that the maxmini shoulder pads have arrived)

Now some finished shots

07-11-2010, 15:42

Then we have the Captain himself. Unfortunately no WIP shots as I got carried away with the model and went straight to the paint.

Well that’s it for now……
Definitely more to come

07-11-2010, 16:44
Nice mini's. Definately got the whole true scale look!

Looking forward to more.

A bloody and broken road awaits us…but now we are of one heart and mind we cannot fail.
Rosilia has been enlightened and now our gaze turns to the Forgeworld of Gethsani, for rearmament before the march on Terra.
Lord Angron has bestowed the honour of leading the speartip on the 15th and we will not fail him.

Something is happening to us…….
A music of the blood, a siren song of death and fire……
Quiet, but growing…..
They say that blood calls out to blood but there is a power in this…
I feel it coursing through me.
When my claws cut flesh my blood sings, when blood is spilt my mind howls .
Something ancient and dark is answering….

++Addendum ends++

Update time…and some reinforcements too.
It’s been a while but I thought I’d update this when I had reached another of the milestones and maybe get some feedback on another little project (it does have something to do with this so please bear with me!)

Let’s start with what I’ve managed to finish. Firstly the 5 drop pods that I have are finished (and were actually quicker to paint than I expected thanks to the judicious use of masking tape and both black and white spray paints)

Then we have each of the squads with their transports

Ravager squad Aldegar

Ravager squad Gautslein

03-12-2010, 11:56
Captain Vortigern and Devourers

Dreadnought Chlothar

Army shot

Destroyer Sergeant Meghinad

03-12-2010, 11:57
And now for the other little thing. As some of you may know this army is for the UKGT 2011 and my mate Phil has decided he wants to take some PH Dark Angels as his army. As such he asked me to model Luther for him (counts as Azreal) and here’s my interpretation

Thoughts and comments?

03-12-2010, 15:27
Wow, binary, you're a very talented converter. Great painter, too.

Your models ooze character. The WE captain looks like a total nut-bag.

Luthor looks the part, too.

In summary: a triumph. :)

the damned artificer
04-12-2010, 12:35
Some great work, really a successful blend between pre-heresy and true scale. I'm sure they will be an imposing and frightening sight to any opponent, just as the World Eaters like it ;)

really a successful blend between pre-heresy and true scale.

My thoughts exactly :)

Great conversions and ideas you've got there binary!

Oh goodie!
These guys are fantastic. Seriously.

Gethsani burns below us as the brotherhood of Mars turns upon itself in a wanton orgy of death and corruption.
Reinforcements have arrived, fresh blood for the harvest.
We have been given a new target…..
Something worthy of our skills, something that will test us to the limit and shower us with skulls and glory.
Something secret…..
Blood and death calls.

So it’s been a while but there is an update to the world eaters, got some more models done and some more paint slapped onto them.
First up we have Destroyer squad Meghinad

21-03-2011, 11:21
And painted

Then we have a Rampager squad (counts as Bloodclaw squad)
These guys are all in MKIV armour with bare arms and heads showing the headstrong and berserk nature of those world eaters with newly implanted “butchers nails”

The reinforcements mentioned in Vortigern’s report are because they’re upping the points for UK Throne of Skulls to 1750.
So what to add to an all drop pod army of frothing loonies? Why more frothing loonies of course.
This will be in the form of a second wolfguard squad, the Desh’ean Gladiators, 5 wolfguard with 1 wolfclaw each, and 1 wolfguard with Mark of the Wolfen, all in a drop pod.

More to come soon,
And for those who haven’t seen it yet I’m also making these guys a true scale Land Raider for “Armies on Parade”

Love that Dreadnought! All this stuff is really cool looking, the tactical marines are some of the better looking ones done out there. Your special weapons are also top notch! Only minor gripe is the termies look a little stretched and tall looking without the bulk.

02-10-2012, 12:22

Finally after over a year and a major family crisis I’ve had time to return to the speartip of captain Vortigern, and with only 5 weeks to TOS, not only have I managed to finish the army, but also managed to build some themed objective markers too.

Enough talking, here’s all the photo’s (warning, there’s about 40!)

Legion Transfer

Captain Vortigern

I Squad

IV Squad

Army Shot

Objective markers

The Archivist Maximillian Von Speer
Tasked by Lord Angron to accompany the 64th and record the details of ever one of Captain Vortigern’s action, military or otherwise, verifying both his and the company’s triumph rope.

The Techpriest Fabricator Locum Mlitaris Korolyev
An adept of the Dark Mechanicus on an undisclosed mission assigned to him by Fabricator-General Kelbor-hal to hunt for lost archeotech on the road to Terra. He has attached himself to the 64th purely for expedience sake, and follows his own agenda

The Assassin Umbrae
Spear was not the only daemonic assassin in Erebus’ arsenal. However rather than the forced binding of Daemon and Pariah, Umbrae was already a convicted serial killer and had escaped the notice of the silent sisterhood. She willingly volunteered for erebus’ service, and now her mission is to further Horus’ propaganda war on both loyal and traitor worlds

02-10-2012, 12:25

The Traitor Gladiator Captain Steinghert
Former Captain of the 64th executed for siding with the Terran loyalists by Vortigern and his commanders in a coup that allowed him to seize command. His burnt and crucified remains are kept and displayed on every battlefield as a reminder of the fate that awaits those who doubt Horus’ power.

The Scout Recon Sergeant Tiranne
One of the veteran officers of the company’s recon cohorts, deployed to the surface of Tarterus II to locate tactical and strategic strong points as well as the HQ of the opposing forces to call in the assault drop.

Finally got these made as a bonus for completing the army….

02-10-2012, 23:59
To me go the spoils of first response!!! Awesome conversions, great objective markers and a truly fantastic army setup. How are those thoughts for you? ;)
It must have taken a great deal of work to get this army looking so special - please do let us know how you do in battle! I particularly like the Bloodletter 'drop pod' idea - very cool. I hope your family crisis is all over and done with too.

03-10-2012, 01:33
Sweet!I love the clean style of the conversions.I especially enjoyed the pics with the white background.Keep on!
