View Full Version : Heresy Era Raven Guard

Ok, no models of yet, they all sat in a big box at home, for me to have fun with over the next few months. Basically Forgeworld finally got me to pay out some serious money to them.

Photos to come of wip and finished models. I brought enough for a 1500 pt drop pod army using Wolves list as I just like the looks of marines with bolters and chainswords, and considering this list is going to be very up close and personal I felt that no well train army would rely on shooting when you going to drop on the dam traitor scum.

Basic Background for the army is a small force looking for Vengeance after the Istvaan Massacre's after retreating back to deliverance for a while a small force was sent out to harass the enemies worlds behind the main battle lines, to cause the Warmaster to split his frontline forces into having to defend key worlds and industries. Basically very much a Hit and Run army, it will strike fast and hard and then disappear, and hit another world. Keeping moving and cutting the enemy with small and painful cuts.

1. Forge World Order Recieved and Checked (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showpost.php?p=5034163&postcount=9) = A small amount of resin.

Sounds interesting enough, but Raven Guard as Wolves? Like to see how that'll turn out, look forward to further postings! :D

Yeh the wolves / raven guard thing I spent the last 2 months or so discussing with friends over what codex to best show the raven guard at the period I was going for, honest answer was none, so went with codex that gives me a lot of potential for enjoyment, and the fact I read The Last Church, with the story about the thunder and lightning army using bolters and then moving in a line with chainswords to finish up the opponents, sort of finally made the decision. End of the day yes it's not exactly right, but No Codex would have given me everything the way I wanted it. :)

But yeh plan to wash all the resin tonight (there is just a small amount of it).

Don't I know the changes in what Codex to use :D, lets just hope this one sticks and we dont go back to changing every few days.

I think it will provide difficulties though if you try to go jump pack heavy as Skyclaws are Headstrong, and you are not able to use Shrike. Who is actually quite a cool Raven Guard character.:)

05-10-2010, 15:11
But this is a heresy list, jetpacks arent common and Shrike as Shrike of course doesnt exist though yeah I can see what you mean.

If i had planned to use Jump Packs I would have avoided the Wolf List, probable gone codex, and as Paspinall will say I did look at the every marine codex around bar DA. But as he said, Jump Packs were rare, and lets be honest an small force out for vegeance for Istvaan Massacres, is going to get wiped out at somepoint, would you risk rare jump pack units in a situation like that.

As for Shrike, I be honest doesn't fit the feel of the army I was going for, would have used FW special character but as most touraments don't allow FW stuff decided against it.

Can't wait to see how this turns out!

looking forward to seeing all that resin built. Don't forget you always have the option of changing the heresey list to a 40k list down the track - with all the armour and weapon varients mixed in it would look cool. You may even be able to use the BA list then with all the jump troops

Drizzt73, to be honest thats part of the idea. This army will evolve over the coming years, I going to be using magnetic's on all unit leaders and specialist weapons guys, so I can swap out as I want.

Biggest bit missing of the army at present is 5 drop pods. which will come next payday after my bank recovers from the FW order.

looking pretty sweet fella, the forgeworld power fist really is gorgeous isn't it, the smaller normal gauntlet inside makes it a real nice piece! i've put mine on an assault sergeant. Looking forward to seeing these chaps painted.
