Okay, so this is mostly me just wish-listing as I still have a Skaven army to grow, and am starting a Dark Elf Witch Elves army at the same time. However, the basic premise here is that I'd be building an Empire army using many of the regiments of renown with only a handful of Empire models.

So anyway, here goes....

As you can see the army is essentially four big blocks of 29 spearmen, each led by a captain for a few Strength 5 hits on Initiative 5. In addition there are two units of 15 crossbowmen, and two units of 15 greatswords, all usable as detachments. At least I hope they are as technically speaking half of 29 rounded down is 14, but I've just been counting the captains as members of the unit, I suspect that RAW I may need four extra models handy to make a true unit of 30.

Greatswords and the unit of Knights are the main source of hard-hitting combat support, with battle mages hopefully providing lots of combat-buffs as needed, with the standard bearer unit hopping to wherever he's needed most.

I have a 3,000 point list as well where I drop in two units of 15 Flagellants each led by a Warrior Priest, mostly because I love the Flagellant kit and the warrior priest models (plus the one from Avatars of War), plus two units of 10 free company, and two units of 10 archers as additional detachments (for two each per spearman block), and for running plenty of interference.

Naturally this list is quite expensive to buy, so it'll be waiting till my Witch Elf army is largely complete (hit around the 2,300 mark), though I suspect temptation will see me buying a kit here and there.

Anyway, I'm interested in people's thoughts on viability. It should be possible for me to switch to blocks of Halberdiers easily enough, as they seem to be better value right now than the spearmen overall, ideally I'd have a mix of both so I have two volume of attacks blocks and two with decent strength, but the regiments of renown all have spears, well, some have pikes but they look more like spears than halberds, which is the kind of thing that niggles me a bit; I like my models to represent what I'm fielding them as, not completely WYSIWYG of course but I like to be close enough at least.
