Hi guys, I am new to Warhammer Fantasy, and chose High Elves to play. So this is where i will come to learn from the veteran High Elf players.

I have had a few games at 1000pts. My list during my preliminary learning period was:

Mage. Level 2. Silver Wand [or] Seerstaff of Sapphery
25 Spearmen. Full Command [5x5]
14 Sword Masters. Full Command [7x2]
14 White Lions. Full Command [7x2]
2 Great Eagles

I am now familiar enough with the rules to make another step up in points.. Although 1500pts seems like a different ball game... So could you help/advise me, I am thinking of the following:

Archmage. Level 4. Silver Wand(?) [5 spells]
Noble. Great Weapon. BSB. Armour of Caledor. Guardian Phoenix
38 Spearmen. Full Command. [6x6? or 5x7?] [just meets the minimum 375pts 25%]
14 Sword Masters. Musician. [7x2]
25 White Lions. Full Command. [6x5?]
2 Eagles.

OR

Noble BSB GW, AoC, GP
24 Spear w/ FC (6X4)
24 Spear w/ FC (6x4)
22 White lions w/ FC with Banner of Sorcery, and Champ with Iron Curse Icon (both char 6X4)

I'm just wondering why there no concern with range attacks? It seems weird to me that there no LSG, Archers, or RBTs to support your infantry army as they advance. I understand that 8th panders to large infantry formations but your list is a tad slow for my HE tastes (I like using combined arms tactics as much as possible). Can you list what other figures you might have as possible replacements before I make any suggestions?

Otherwise I think I'd go with Army #2.

Hi guys, thanks for the input.

I have found shooting [specifically s3 bows] to be wholely unsatisfying in terms of resultant kills.
Also the same applies for 100pt Bolt Throwers.
[Maybe this is because i am used to playing a highly competetive Imperial Guard army in 40k with ALOT of impact guns]

So i decided to not take any shooting as i played more games, and it has worked relatively well for me in 10 or so games at 1000pts.
It might come back to bite me in the ass later though(?!)

I would like you to help me with a list regardless of what models i actually have.
Since I will proxy them in the mean time to judge their performance. And try and obtain them as i go.

As an absolute side note [which shouldn't bias your advice]:

From CORE:
I really like Spearmen and Lothern Sea Guard.
I do not like Archers.

From SPECIAL:
I really like White Lions/Sword Masters/Phoenix Guard/Dragon Princes.
I do not like Silver Helms/Ellyrian Reavers/Shadow Warriors.

From RARE:
I really like Eagles. [I already have 4 of them! 1 GW one and 3 GameZone variants]
I do not like Bolt Throwers.

Well that's understandable then as battle cannons beats bows any day of the week. ;)

Well to get bow fire for HE armies to work requires a little bit forethought into army but even then not ever opponent will be heavy armored enough to shrug off mass bowfire IMO. Anyways I took your second list and gave it a tweak with two alternate lists for your approval:

Archmage. Level 4. Silver & Guardian Phoenix. 295 pts.
Noble. Great Weapon. BSB. Armour of Caledor. 143 pts.
25 Spearman Full Command. [5x5] 250 pts.
20 LSG. Full Command. [5x4] 285 pts.
23 White Lions. Full Command. [5x5?] 375 pts.
3 Eagles. 150 pts.

Total: 1498 pts.

or

Archmage. Level 4. Silver & Guardian Phoenix. 295 pts.
Noble. Great Weapon. BSB. Armour of Caledor. 143 pts.
21 Spearman Full Command. [7x3] 214 pts.
20 LSG. Full Command. [5x4] 285 pts.
23 White Lions. Std & Musician. [5x5?] 363 pts.
4 Eagles. 200 pts.

Total: 1500 pts.

Of the two suggested lists I'll like the second option the best as you get 4 eagles in the mix instead of 3 while the units are still realatively the same in size. I would put the BSB & Mage in the White Lion regiment for obvious reasons. Also I included a defensive magic items for your mage. For these list I suggest using Lore of Shadows or Life for the Mage.

I hope that helps.
