Cheers :)

Chaos marine right arm?

The nose has been shaved slightly? Looking good so far. Is this to be the start of an army or just a one-off piece?

the freehand is pretty good for such a small area.

No that's not the "unique" part. Sorry

Yes, it's the helmet. I don't like the normal ones and I saw Alex Boyds art in the 'dex and just made my beakies like he draws his.

And it's a start of an army, though I'm not sure if I'll complete it or that there'll be regular updates.

Cheers Alexos! I don't do freehand very often so I'm happy with it :)

Some more pics on what I've been up to since the first model was posted.

I still have to work on the heads but I should be able to get some pics of them painted by Tuesday/Wednesday.

C&C is always appreciated :)

Ludovic

Edit: I'll even try and get some fluff for each model, if I have the time :)

What about instead of going for Pre-Heresy you go for early Post-heresy, namely the Scourging Era? That way you could still go for the pre-Heresy feel but don't be fully forced to stick to pre-Heresy tech.

Hum...good idea. Cheers Malika! :)

Any comments on the models/painting?

The paint job looks pretty slick! Did you modify the helmet of the first marine? The beaky looks a bit shorter, which is pretty awesome! The only problem I have with the model is that it has two different hands. Why does it have one big glove and a normal hand? Why not two of the same?

SewerRat42

Yeah I shortened the beak, looks better IMO. :)

About the hands, I just thought it added a bit more variety to the model and made it a bit more "ancient". I quite like it but I'm not everyone :P I'll try and keep your comment in mind though for future models :)

By the way, what is that red Thousand Sons icon doing on an Ultramarine?

SewerRat42
29-11-2010, 13:53
Nah, it's an Iron Halo xD

malika

I didn't know the Iron Halo was painted on the armour. If you want it to function as a true Iron Halo, you might want to model it on top of the back pack, maybe use this bit:

By the way, did you check out this (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=146205) Ultramarines log by Migsula?

Yep, it's shown in the 'dex, I think (at least mentioned). And actually, "It is a special award given to a Space Marine who has shown exceptional initiative or bravery on the battlefield. It incorporates a powerful conversion field, similar to the Rosarius or Refractor Field." (from Lexicanum). However, I've seen it painted on a Space Marine's kneepad in the 'dex I copied the idea :)

And yes, but a long time ago, so thanks for the link :)

But if the Iron Halo is a device, shouldn't it then be modelled instead of just painted on the armor? Perhaps also model one on top of his backpack?

Don't forget to file out the mouldlines and drill out of the barrels by the way! :)

just to add, the iron halo is awarded to squad leaders as of index astartes (not to be confused with the iron halo wargear item) so its not wrong to see this painted on a squad leader (not the sgt!, he should have a skull icon)

also nice ultras dude :)

Wasn't Squad Leader an old RT rank too? For the second in command of the squad if I recall, to take charge of the Combat Squad without the Sergeant included.

Many pre heretic brothers here :)

Squad leader still afaik, and the iron skull is his insignia IIRC from Insignium Astartes, need to check, but also think that this appears in the C:SM.

Your painting's really neat and tidy, I like it. Especially the freehands.

Did you ever consider using a brighter blue for the hard highlights on the edges? That would benefit your crisp lines.

cheers mate
