View Full Version : Watch Melchor build his Deathwing army!

15-03-2006, 15:21

Because I'm lazy, and the deadline is quite some time away (October).

The deadline I have in mind will be the Dutch 40k Grand Tournament, which is usually held somewhere mid-October. I would however like to finish this army before then so I can get some practice games.

This year, the GT-staff have deceided to up the point limit to 1750 points (instead of the usual 1500), so I could throw in some extra models (just 3 really).

My planned army list looks like this:

Epistolary, with FotA and MoH joined by: 5 man Command Squad, 2 Assault Cannons, Teleport Homer
Dreadnought, Assault Cannon, DCCW, Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour, Drop Pod
Dreadnought, Assault Cannon, DCCW, Heavy Flamer, Extra Armour, Drop Pod
6 Man Terminator Squad, 2 Assault Cannons, Chainfist, Teleport Homer
6 Man Terminator Squad, 2 Assault Cannons, Chainfist, Teleport Homer
6 Man Terminator Squad, 2 Cyclone Missile Launchers, Tank Hunters, Teleport Homer.

This is a little short of 1750 points, but that's not important right now.

Anyhow, here's the compulsory desktop shot! Huzzah!

Conveniently, the models you see on that desktop are (some of) the ones that need painting.
I must add that I have 2 more (finished) Deathwing terminators sitting in the display cabinet of GW Rotterdam (*proud*). More detailed pictures of some of my models can be found in my gallery (in my sig).

Ok, that'll be it for now. I'm off to paint some Terminators.

Looks nice dude. Especially the drop pod. Could you give some info on how you made it, because I'm planning to convert my Angel-army into a Dread-heavy force (just because I can) and I really need some pods. :D

Oh, and on a side note: how's about our magnet-buying joint venture?

15-03-2006, 15:52
Check your email. ;)

Morbid Dreams
15-03-2006, 16:32
can you pm what you did for your pods as well please. looking good !!:)

15-03-2006, 16:37
While you're at it, just mass email the pod templates you used to everyone at Warseer to shut them all up at once (*hint, hint... ;) )

Looking good so far.

15-03-2006, 16:45
Well it's about bloody time!

:D Good to see you've found the motivation.

Don't forget smoke launchers for the dreads if you have the points left.

Here's some more motivation for you:
Now just imagine that's all painted...yeah, I need motivation too.

15-03-2006, 18:38
Thanks for the motivation Darkseer! You've got a lot to paint, but you've got a lot that's already painted as well. :D

People that want the template: just PM me your email adress and I'll send it to you some time tomorrow. The template is for an infantry drop pod though, but its easy to turn it into a Dreadnought Drop Pod.

Right... update time! *rejoice* (told you guys I was lazy...;))

When the French GW site put up their awesome drop pod template, I just had to build a new one... So I did! And here's the result:

Also, I managed to get the sergeant of my first squad finished. Quick pic:

C&C welcome... ;)

29-03-2006, 21:33
Aaargh... curse of the paper pod showing through the paint! If it wasn't for the texture of the paper bleeding through, that'd be a relatively decent piece.

29-03-2006, 22:52
Mmmmmm threads like this make me feel warm inside.

You do deathwing armies so I dont have to :D (If only I could afford, I'd have terminators beyond my wildest dreams).

And could you get us a better shot of that chaplain?

29-03-2006, 22:56
Chaplain? If you mean the model next to the Drop Pod, it's a Librarian:

Kasrkin 666
29-03-2006, 22:57
That is nice!:D

Warboss Garfang
29-03-2006, 23:31
That's one nice chaplain, and the terminator sergeant came out nice too. Drop pod looks very nice, maybe not as detailed as a FW model, but certainly way less expensive.

30-03-2006, 00:21
Ahhhh sorry my mistake, tis the eyes they aint what they used to be

30-03-2006, 00:23
That's one nice chaplain

librarian, not chaplain ;)

23-04-2006, 19:18
Time for *gasp* an update!

Current status:

Close to a playable army! :D

I also have an unassembled box of terminators lying around, and am waiting for my FW order to arrive; shoulder pads for sergeants and characters, and a MKIV dreadnought!

23-04-2006, 21:17
looking good melchor :D

23-04-2006, 21:23
Everything looks good, the bone could use some more crisp and the wheatering on the drop pod could be re done (more drubrusing/airbrush) to get the right feeling good job on the libby looks ace keep it up

23-04-2006, 22:12
Its models like those that make me love deathwing:D . Did you use darkseers painting guide on deathwing central.

23-04-2006, 22:20
Nope, I used one I found on the B&C.
(this one (http://bolterandchainsword.com/index.php?showtopic=79248&hl=))

Takes a little more time, but I like the result. ;)

23-04-2006, 23:48
That tutorial was great thanks Melchor. Any chance of a few close ups on your models.

24-04-2006, 00:19
Very nice Melchor. Deathwing seem to be very popular these days but still very well done!

24-04-2006, 12:50
@eldarlordx: Will this do?

More pics in my gallery (see sig).

24-04-2006, 12:56
love the shell casings, that extra detail always makes a model better looking in my books.

24-04-2006, 13:01
And Deathwing is just the kind of army that allows for such extra details. :)

Thanks mate!

24-04-2006, 13:07
Hey Melkor, I see you're using my tutorial for the army! Cool, yours are the first and only ones I've seen using it.. I must say that looking back at it now, the pics I took are quite awfull, and I'm thinking about kind of doing it over (although a little different). Was it easy enough to follow? Any tips I might use for future tutorials?
The army looks sweet as a whole, although for me, Deathwing could do with a little more white on the armour..

A reply from the Master himself! I'm not worthy! :P

Seriously though, the tutorial was very useful. It was rather easy to follow, and the quality of the pics wasn't too bad. ;)

One thing that did annoy me a little though, is posting each step quite some posts apart. I'd suggest painting the model and taking the pics first, and then post the tutorial. Makes it a bit easier to follow.

24-04-2006, 13:20
Yeah, I was thinking of that, I did it on the Warhammer Forum, although it took 2 posts as apparentely, there's a limit to posting size..
I'll try it on a next model, but usually I get rather excited to post stuff..!

Ah another deathwing play! very nice, check the links in my sig.

and melchor, looking sweet. whats your army list like?

24-04-2006, 18:30
Ah another deathwing play! very nice, check the links in my sig.

I'm sure he's very aware of those ;)

24-04-2006, 19:02
Yes I am... But thanks anyway TDR!

My army list is going to be something like this:

Librarian with FoTA and Command squad with 2 assault cannons

Dreadnought with assault cannon, DCCW, Heavy Flamer and Drop Pod
Dreadnought with assault cannon, DCCW, Heavy Flamer and Drop Pod

6 Termies, 2 assault cannons, chainfist, teleport homer
6 Termies, 2 assault cannons, chainfist, teleport homer

6 Termines, 2 Cyclones, Tank Hunters, teleport homer.

Should be around the 1700 points mark (which is probably going to be the army size for the Dutch GT).

02-05-2006, 16:33
looking for an update soon melchor.

02-05-2006, 16:58
Nice looking Deathwing army there. Also working on my own DW, currently painting a LR Crusader in DW colors.

Would it be possible to get that info for the Pod? :D

02-05-2006, 18:19
I'm just waiting for my Forgeworld order to arrive until I continue.
In the meantime I'm entertaining myself with my Dark Angels, my Ogres and Mount&Blade. :)

I'll update when I have something to show you.

12-05-2006, 15:01
just wondering when that forgeworld model will be done. I wont let another beutiful thread DIE:p .

14-06-2006, 19:53
I've been working on my army... honestly! :D

My FW order hasn't arrived yet (mistake on my part), but will arrive soon.
In the meantime, to show you I AM really working on some stuff, I'll post some pics of my Command Squad. They need to be 'pimped out' with purity seals and all sorts of funky bits but that'll come later.

In game terms these guys will count as regular Storm Bolter/PF guys and a sergeant respectively.
They'll just look cooler than the rest.

14-06-2006, 21:23
very original, i like. if you want to bling them up as well without too much greenstuffing, a good tip is to paint around shoulder pads and things with a gold rim (like the UM dread that eavy metal's done)

04-07-2006, 11:33
nice conversions and posing, keep'um comin
