Out of all the new stuff released this year, what was your favorite model of them all? Mine would be the Plastic Daemon Prince, I love the way that model looks. :D

"The Year of Fantasy" was a rather poor show regarding miniatures. Once again, 40k surely got the best bits this year. A quick summary of WHFB releases:

(Feb) Beastmen
(May) Orc 3rd wave
(Aug) Daemons 2nd wave
(Sep) Island of BLOOD
(Oct) High Elf 2nd wave
(Nov) Scenery

To be honest, I wasn't impressed by many WHFB releases of 2010. Too many were simply too silly (River Trolls, Phoenix Guard), lacked character (Gors, Boar Boyz) or were plain ugly (Minotaurs, Horrors, Daemon Prince). The few that weren't bad were often accompanied unnecessarily high pricetag (IoB, Bloodcrushers, White Lions). One of the few kits that would have given me a good value for money were Dragon Princes. Nice and affordable models. I didn't buy them though. Had the Island of Blood contents and price been more sensible, I might have started High Elves.

Month after month I wanted to buy new miniatures, but GW failed to produce anything worth buying. Either the miniatures were too bad or too expensive to justify buying them (affording was never a problem), often both. As a result, my gaming budget turned towards board games. That was until I finally created an eBay account and bought a metric ton of old GW and Marauder Dwarves.

Yeah I agree with above, sort of a poor showing. I did kind of like the beastmen releases, and will probably buy some minotaurs, they look like a promising fix er upper box set.

Working with the old school empire plastics recently kind of made me skeptical of GWs recent kit quality.

I love the new Beastmen and River Trolls. The White Lions are tops too.

Favorite model? Has to be the Pumbagor. So terrible, it comes full circle to awesome!

The Bestigor models are just awesome (...ly expensive). Was Queek a 2010 release? If so I'd have to include him in there too.

It's a real shame with Beastmen. I Love their 3 tiers of foot units (Ungors, Gors and Bestigors). Shame about the big 40mm stuff, they've really let the Beastmen army down with these imo.

I quite liked Spinetail :D

I love the plastic river trolls, now if only they will release the stone ones as well.

The boar boyz were quite nice, and I like the changeling model.

Ungors.

As a former beastmen player and collector, I think these models are the best yet. 5th ed were great, 6th ed too muscled and reminiscent of the Gors... These new models have a lot of character on their own.

I also like the addition of shortbows.

plastic river trolls for me aswell, one of the best releases imo

Im the same. I picked one up more for the look than any real plans of using it as a lord choice...although i will soon just to get him in a few games.

Island of Blood: dude on gryphon.
If it had been a metal model, it would be a very nice one indeed. Though probably a bit unstable. :p For a plastic model, it's just awesome. Really good quality, shows how much they can do in plastic these days.
And I don't even really like High Elves.

It's a tough winner takes all split between the River Trolls and Warlord Spinetail for me.

Probably those new Trolls :)

Fantasy is quite hard, since I liked nearly everything. But I'd say:
First Place: Trolls
Second Place: Rat Ogres
Third Place: Minotaurs

Now with 8th edition it's perfectly viable to make a Beastman army without the big stuff. :)

I think that a lot of stuff has looked very good this year, favourites are ungors and river trolls.

It's very hard for me to pick a favorite from so many awesome releases such as River Trolls, Boar Boys, IOB Ellyrian Reavers & Sea Guard, the Changeling... ;)

I guess I love Changeling the most, that model just oozes character. :)

But, oh dear, seeing that release list for Fantasy for the whole past year, so pathetic quantity wise.

I'd probably say my favourites (WHFB-wise) were the plastic trolls and the griffon rider in IoB. But it has been a pretty boring year for WHFB, 8th edition aside.

I don't play Fantasy, but I like the looks of the Island of Blood models. I think they did a good job with the High Elves, esp. the Griffon and the Lothern Sea Guard.

The new river trolls are just fantastic. GW just doesn't do this often enough: keeping the same style as an old model and then making it even better.

Rat Ogres, stone trolls, minotaurs and Kroxigors all look bad compared to their old 5th edition couterparts in comparison.

1st: Plague Furnace

It was 2010, I think...pretty close, but I got it in 2010 anyway...and I don't even collect Skaven! Just love the model.

2nd: Razorgor.

Full of character and nowhere near as bad as the pre-release hysteria would have you believe. I've seen Chaos Warriors look more "Disney" than this fella. He really fits with the new, more twisted and violent Beastmen.

Spinetail was dope. Getting a new edition was cool but otherwise a terrible year for releases. One army book and a bunch of waves? Junk. They need to step it up. I bought nothing but the rule book this year. How are they going to make cash off WFB if there isn't much for it? Ah, more space marines to keep them afloat.

20-12-2010, 17:36
I don't understand why people wanted GW to release a new book a few months before a revolutionary new edition? :wtf: We would here no end to the complaining if say the OnG book was released 3 months before 8th came out. I think it is good we got models and not much literature this year.

As for my favorite models this year I am loving those beastmen infantry!

Limited Edition Prince Althran Stormrider on foot, but then again, I have a 4,000 pt. High Elf Army... they were my first love for WHFB:o;)

Chaos Tr -- I mean River Trolls. Seriously, steal a few leftover Chaos Terminator shoulder pads and you're set for life. Conversion work done.

I really like the Boar Boyz actually, some of the best greenskins to come out in ages.

IoB Swordmasters are awesome, as well. The only part of that set I've put a brush to so far, and they really make me want to get my Empire/Dwarfs finished. You know, so I can start work on yet another army instead of finishing my older, mostly painted ones.

I'm beginning to think that the rumours of his Limited Edition-ness were greatly exaggerated, as they're in no short supply :p

That said, I think (on the Fantasy side) I'd give the award to his opposite, Warlord Spinetail. I finally got that piece in my paws the other night and was absolutely delighted by the detail, assembly, sword, and ridiculously long tail.

Not technically a WFB release, but the Dark Eldar Archon was by far my favourite, and he makes a wicked dreadlord on foot.

River Trolls for the vomiting one.

For me it has to be the river trolls, although the Island of Blood set was prety amazing and the bloodcrushers were awesome too. Pity that the beastmen line wasn't up to the same calibre.

All the Skaven stuff in IOB, no doubt. The HE are top notch as well, but IMHO Skaven got more useful models, especially if you buy multiples.

The deamon prince is also awesome. It was fun to build, convert and paint. The price is reasonable too.

I got 3 boxes of the new horrors, but I was not too impressed. They are ok models but they are too big and their arms are all over the place, impossible to rank up!

The Griffon Rider model from IoB is so great a model that it makes me want field one.

Considering that for 30 points more you could get a dragon with better stats, 5+ armor save and a breath weapon that is saying something.

I'll say the HE Prince on the griffon was the first fantasy model to really floor me but all the new elves have helped draw me into the game. The only thing I don't like about the model is the princes helmet. I mean come on, who could wear that!?

dragonet111
24-12-2010, 08:21
The Changelin because it's a perfect Herald of Tzeentch.

The new prince daemon is also amazing, not as good as Be'lakor but plastic is fantastic.

The new Dragon Princes. Lovely models

Unfortunately I'm struggling for anything that really stood out this year. The IoB Griffon looked really good from a distance but lacked somewhat up close (like most plastics)

Once again in the "year of WFB" 40K gets all the cool stuff.

Cheers

Isn't Azagh from this year? If so, obviously, he gets my vote.

Would you by any chance happen to like monstrous infantry? :D

Not that it's been released yet, but the Warhammer Forge Skullcracker is the single most jaw dropping mini I think I've ever seen for warhammer.

Whilst I happen to be posting, merry christmas everyone for tommorow. :)

My favorite stuff is the Elves from IoB. I like all of the Elves in that set. I am not so keen on the stuff that came in the wave after though.

I also quite liked the orc wave this year.

Was Queek Headtaker released in 2010? He would be my choice, if not then the IoB Prince.
