I'm just curious. I wonder what the percentages would be like at a big event like games day or adepticon?

You probably should have made each SM codex available as a choice, considering that each one plays differently.
Eldar and Dark Eldar are disparate choices as well.

Blood Angels and Tau here, though I've gone through every army but Guard, Necrons and Chaos.

My Inquisition and Imperial Guard are really one army with many different play options using allies and counts as all over the place (not to mention just using an Inquisitorial paint scheme!).

After that I am building a large Angels Encarmine force right now.

My armies are:

Steel Legion with a huge Storm Trooper detachment.
Daemon Hunters that I mostly play as a pure GK force.
Space Marines, my DIY chapter.
Death Guard.
Tyranids.
Saim Hann.

The one I play with the most is Tyranids, since they are mostly painted.

I would have, but... warseer has a limit of 10 options per poll. I was partly interested to see what kind of sales might inform games workshop.

I'm planning to expand my Witch hunters with Imperial guard some day soon. It's tough to define inquisition armies that are just a mish mosh, isn't it? I'm also thinking about getting space marines but I wouldn't ever field them alone. They'd always be taken as allies, so it would still be a "Witch Hunters" army.

I currently play IG, but I have tyranids, SM, CSM, and inquisition.

Until I get around to converting a HALO BA army. Stormravens as pelicans, land speeders for hornets, and razorbacks for warthogs. ;)

Alright:

Daemon hunters
Orks
Necrons

Thats just 40k mind....

As i'm really revisiting RT era 40k I have startedon forces for all factions of the time.

At the moment i've got valid RT armies for

Squats
Eldar
Space Marines
Harlequins
Rogue Trader retinue
Tyranids
Planetary Defence Force (effectively a pirate list from the first CA book)

I've got a fair way to go to getting enough minis for a sound force of orks and imperial guard

The only completely painted force is the PDF one.

I've probably still got enough modern plastic cadians for a 500 point force of IG though lol!

Years and years of collecting. Some armies go into storage whilst others are played and / or expanded. The majority of my armies are finished. I won't be adding any more to them except the odd figure here and there to keep forces game legal or a model I really like.

Seriously considering a Black Templars army though, although the latest Badab War books have stayed my hand with the temptation of Astral Claws...

Re-stating that each of the SM armies should have their own option, as should the two types of Eldar.

However, I currently have:

Tau Empire
Orks
Chaos Space Marines

Also voted Dark Eldar as I'm about to start on some, already bought the first models for the army, though they haven't seen any games yet.

Tau Empire (4k)
Necrons (5.5k)

I am fickle and i keep flicking between the 2.

Currently Im on Tau and Im waiting on my company bonus to buy an Airbrush kit and 3x XV9s. After that who knows - though if Necrons get a new codex, the shift of focus may change.

Depends how you do it. As an example, I have a small blood angels army which is made up of the plastic marines I've gotten from buying the 2nd and 3rd ed boxed sets, with only a handful of metal marines added from some random sources. It's basically a no maintenance army since it's made up of tactical marines and not much else and I have no immediate desire to expand on it. Limiting your scope and ambition is the key to collecting multiple forces. And the payoff is being having a large variety of model types available to play and paint.

I have a Tau force that I am working on as time and money allow. My next project is a Chaos Rengades warband loosely based onthe list in White Dwarf 107, using the Witch Hunters codex.

Here are some more numbers, for those of you who are interested.
So far, we have:

424 armies
151 voters

An average of 2.8079 armies per voter. The number is actually a bit lower than a true representation, because some voters have several different space marine and/or inquisition armies, and some collect both Eldar and Dark Eldar.

80/424= 18.87% Space Marines (Sorry everybody. I know that all the codecies play very differently, but there are so many armies and trying to fit them all on a single poll is difficult.)

44/424= 10.38% Chaos Space Marines

27/424= 6.37% Chaos Daemons

36/424= 8.49% Inquisition (See the space marines note.)

35/424= 8.25% Orks

66/424= 15.57% Eldar/Dark Eldar (See the space marines note.)

31/424= 7.31% Tau

33/424= 7.78% Tyranids

29/424= 6.74% Necrons

43/424= 10.14% Imperial Guard

And then we have several WIPs that people may not have included.

In addition, there were 39 space marine armies listed in posts, split up between 31 posters. That's an average of 1.25 distinctly different space marine armies for the space marine players who posted.

Codex Space Marines - 13 = 33.33%
Blood Angels & Angels Encarmine - 10 = 25.64%
Space Wolves - 6 = 15.38%
Dark Angels, Deathwing & Ravenwing - 9 = 23.08%
Black Templars - 1 = 2.56%

All Salamanders, Raven Guard, Imperial Fists, White Scars, Crimson Fists, Ultramarines & DIY chapters that were mentioned were lumped in with Codex Space Marines.

I run the following armies:

1. badmoon orks (heavy conversions)
2. Ravenwing
3. Deathwing
4. Tyranids
5. Thousand Sons (chaos) rather pure
6. Ultramarines
7. IG (mostly footslogger)
8. Necrons
9. Tau
10. Dark eldar (100% converted as a pirate army with 4 races used)
11. Blood Angels (ground based)
12. Saim Hann Eldar
13. Alaitoc Eldar

each list has at least 2000 points, average being 2500 pts, some as high as 3500 points.

Consequently I'm not particularly good with any one list except maybe my raven wing which I use the most.

I did not use the original paint scheme (I lack the skill) for the regulars. I begin to think to use it for the veterans troops (do not have them yet)...

Thats a good idea.

It's actually tons easier to do oakleaf/peadot/flectarn type schemes than you'd think. PM me if you like and i'll tell you the dead easy way to do it make it look great.

Just began eldar, only army :)
problembeing choosing a paint scheme with the following the criteria (either contrast or mono, all aspects are in traditional with helmets, weapons, tabard/loincloths etc. in craftworld colours...unless I can think of an awesome scheme that looks better if all are unified...)
