I assume Steampunk is considered Science Fiction rather than Fantasy, so this project will run separate to my main project log (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=274509), which is all Fantasy.

I've started Dystopian Wars as a fun little game that's easy and relatively inexpensive to get into. My Prussian force so far comprises just the basic fleet box, though I have a Sky Fortress on order, and I expect I'll buy more models in due course.

The paint scheme I've decided on is dark blue, brass, and wood (for the decking) which will hopefully look suitably steampunky.

Here's the fleet undercoated and ready to go:

I'm going to start with the little ships and work my way up. Progress shots will be added as soon as I finish something!

What sort of scale are these ships? How do they compare to say the ship in Uncharted seas or Man o War (or even BFG for that matter)

I'm afraid I don't have any models from those systems to do a direct comparison. From what I remember of BFG, these models are about 10% smaller at each ship size.

I'm looking forward to seeing how these turn out.

they've started carrying these and Firestorm Armada at my local store, I've been interested in trying both, they're always out of the rulebooks when I'm in for 40k or malifaux though, so haven't had a chance to look through, the models look nice though.

personally I want to see how the antarctic models look, if they ever make them, but that's just out of nostalgia for an old steampunk RP character that hailed from Antarctica

Okay, here's an image of the first five frigates painted up. I tried using the flash at first, but that washed out the colours I'd used. My apologies for the slight lack of focus.

Also, I played my first game on Sunday, 9 of my ships against 10 FSA ships. I have to say that both of us were converts to the frigates by the end of it. The little guys are great!

I'll be going as close as I can to maximum points spent on these from now on! I lost, but it was a fun learning experience and I'm looking forward to the next game, which I will hopefully play with painted models.

The rest of the frigates are complete- here's a pic with all nine (aqua base painted by my two-year old).

Nice, they're so woody looking!

Thanks for the kind comments everyone. Yes, there's a lot of wood panelling on these models, and larger areas of this on the larger ships.

A months between updates, that wasn't the plan!

The Sky Fortress model I ordered back in early January turned up a few days ago(!). This model is immense, dwarfing the other models with its length and sheer bulk.

The pic below shows the model and its flight deck next to a battleship and a pair of frigates. Large or what?

Here's an update of the three cruisers, on which I am making very slow progress:

The blue looks fine on the ships, but on the sky fortress it would be overpowering, so I expect I'll paint that large model in gray and brass rather than blue and brass.

I'd been looking at those models in one of our LGSs and experiencing nerd-lust - your paintjobs are doing nothing to assuage my covetousness :) great job, they look very nice indeed. Can't wait to see that bonkers airship-carrier thing painted up too!

Ah these are really nice minis with an excellent paintjob. I would be all over DW if I hadnt already sunk time and funds into Firestorm Armada and Uncharted Seas... Must.. resist.. interesting.. but... thematically.. similar.. systems..

Thanks for the comments Cheesy and Clay!

A funny thing happened while Warseer was offline:

That's right I finished the fleet! Well the ships of the fleet at least. The air wing is yet to come.

Here's a shot of the three cruisers:

And the battleship by itself:

for some reason this image won't display on Warseer, but it's there, I promise!

edit: hmm, and the link won't work either. I'll try something else later.
