Hiya, I was wondering what you guys would think was a good theme for a movie in warhammer.

Personally I think the Gotrek & Felix adventures could make for an excellent story line, with the movies following the books, and introdicing each of the races of the warhammer world as the pair take on new adventures...

any ideas out there? With some ideas, some fan backup and a good feasibility plan all that would be left to do is contact George Lucas and propose the idea to him and soon weŽll see Peter Rhyes Davies (Gotrek) and Viggo Mortensen (Felix) acting it out in our beloved fantasy setting...

cheers GB :D

The britonnian (sp) history especialy their war with the orcs. When the Lady of the Lake appears to what-his-face (I'm not a brit player), very King Aurthor and would make an awesome movie.

Another idea would be saurus vs. skaven but none of those races speak human like languages or could be made to.

Or, dare I say this, any of the Black Library book, I've heard very good things about The Troll Country or whatever it's called, the one released together with the Ogre Kingdoms

I don't think that a movie on Gilles le Breton would be successful, it would be complained upon as being a lame copy of the Grail-myth. I however think that a series of films based on Gotrek and Felix would rock, as it brings in all of the races of Warhammer, revolving 'round a small, fixed set of characters, just what the giant film companies want to.

I would like to see a movie about the Vampire war. CanŽt recall who, but think it is during Vlads reign. I mean, they really seam to need an excuse to make Vampire-movies taking plays during the medievil era.
Who the hell wanna see Vampires shooting with pistols? I want to see sword fighting, necromancy and über-powerfull vampire lords killing knights to left and right.

That would be... great.

Take a look at Nightwatch then GranFarfar, they have some really nice combat scenes between varius creatures set in medieval times (though if you solely want medieval, don't buy it, just rent it).

But yeah, the wars right before Vlad rose to power would probably be nice.

The story would be set in SOC... but not fallow the actual storm of chaos fluff as that was all WANG-STAR! It would be an empire general... with some mercenary buddies.... but the story would fallow three different main characters.. Archaon, Generic Empire General #1 and Grigor.... and you see how they all interlink.... in a good the bad the ugly esque way... and it would end with an awesome battle of five armys fight!

The Good the Bad and the Ugly Warhammer style?

Best.

Idea.

Ever.

I think the three characters would fit the roles well! Just add in a few 1000 creatures of the corisponding armys....

In the mean time.........I recommend a movie called "Flesh and Blood" It does fit as what a "Warhammer movie" SHOULD BE like. Late Medieval Europe, DoW doing most/all the fighting.

It's "R rated" for USA audiences. It IS a good movie, a plot with a couple of twists, brief show of skin. It's NOT a Saturday afternoon kiddie matinee movie.

I'd venture to say that there's entirely too much background and history to the Warhammer world. Trying to force it into a 2 hour movie would end up being a travesty. I'd rather see a medium-budget cable TV series, preferably on HBO or Showtime so that it could be as dark as necessary.

Personally I think the Gotrek & Felix adventures could make for an excellent story line, with the movies following the books, and introdicing each of the races of the warhammer world as the pair take on new adventures...
Now take this idea, and stretch it from a movie (with the possibility of sequels) to a full season (or more), and I think it might work.

I'd like to see the original chaos demon war vs the lizardmen and elves ....watching Kroak kill billions of demons, raise continents, move planets (when they formed the world) would be awesome :)

I sea two problems.
1)as stated the warhammer world is so rich in background non-gamers could very easily get lost and a big turn off for the movie guys
2) a whole lot of the fluff isbased on mythology and history and many will cry out saying that its just a conglomeration of stories.

but I personally would love to sea a movie based on warhammer

... It has to have one final climactic battle, with almost every race involved... And has to have some ultimate goal, like one massive polar warp gate fragment... Everyones trying to get their hands on it... And the Lizardmen have sent a massive armada (which they dont seem to do enough of the time) Now Brettonnia and the Empire have allied against this foreign invasion, the Skaven have entered to stop the Lizardmen from gaining too much power in their constant war... Chaos wants it to summon some nasly demon, The elves are old allies of the lizardmen, but also with the humans, so theyre kinda caught between a rock and a hard place, orcs and goblins see the chance for a fight and run in shields shining and blades slashing. All the while its mainly focused on the Lizardmen vs the humans, an all out fight for power between the 2 strongest armies (except chaos but they dont really enter until the sequel) And then in episode 3 we kill off a bunch of characters and have one final battle to please watchers (Yes, i am making fun of another movie)

Oh, I have actually seen it, and I kind of liked it. But I donŽt really get it, wonder when the sequel show up?
It is the same with Underworld 2, a quite cool intro in medieval setting - but 10-15 mins dosnŽt count! ;)

it could never be done including all the races, particularly in any depth. would no doubt also require being from a human perspective, i.e. easy for the audience to view it from. empire vs. chaos would be a likely idea, perhaps something around the great war against chaos, magnus, teclis, kul, all sorts of fun.

There's one problem about Gotrek and Felix and that's Gotrek.

Felix is easy enough he's a human. But Gotrek is not only a Dwarf but a semi naked one.

It's hard enough to get someone to look suitably dwarfy enough with full armour on but take away that and I don't think you'll find anyone that meets Gotrek's buff physique at the required size with the nescessary Gruffnuss.
John Rhys Davies can do the voice but not the body and incidentaly he said 'never again' to being dwarfed up with all those horribly uncomfortable prosthetics.

That would be the main problem with msot races... unless it was a CG film it would be hard to have main characters as some of the more silly races that wouldnt work as humans in costumes!

Honestly, unless it was a CG movie it would be totally retarded. There is just to much fantasy in a huge WH battle to do it justice in a movie without LoTR style budget, and thats just not going to happen.

Chuffy

Duh, the only way they could make a good Warhammer film is to have it animated.

Seriously, animation (not CGI) destroys all opposition.

Best medium ever.

Gotrek and Felix are the best options, i read the books before i even played warhammer, and understood enough, they should do that

Simon23

They could do a sin city style production. :)

If they did a WH movie it would need to have a huge budget LOTR stylee, of course that might not be unthinkable in 10 years time as the costs of making movies drops and drops.

So long as I see wood elves, I don`t care.

Empire Vs Chaos with some allies thrown in would probably be the best movie. Maybe the story of Magnus the Pious and the battle of Praag?

There is no need to go for the "lets pick a huge moment from warhammer history, that we already know about and would only go along to see to because of all the pretty colours". A new story would be good, and thus, something not so major as a massive chaos incursion. Even if its just about a lone Witch hunter tracking down a major chaos cult in Altdorf or something.

Although, this is the game of fantasy battles, so a huge battle would be cool, but its all been done. A story on the scale of the Warhammer RPG or similar would be good. It could follow just the one character (or just a few), like in 'Drakenfels'. I want a movie that focuses on the characters of the story, not races, battles or dramatic moments in Warhammer history. A grand tour of the Warhammer world in 2 hours is a bad idea and would seem self serving; "Look at the world we created!". Something that you dont need to know any warhammer history to watch, and is on a small scale.

Yesh, but perhaps allies? Humans might ask for the help of elves n dwarves? (then those 2 would bicker, making for some great tragic irony)

Hmmm... And chaos with skaven spies?

witchhunter and witchfinder would be my favourite choices for movies. only has humans zombies and vampires. Well witchhunter would be easy. but witchfinder has the big end battle with the plauge deamon.

plus streng. coolest bodygaurd ever

Regardless of your opinion of animation (which is a pretty broad category of media to say it all "blows", but I digress...), the live-action alternative would probably end up looking like the D&D movie. And I don't want to ever see it come to that....

Oh yeah. That movie is really a piece of work. Why, OH WHY did they put that movie on the shelves? Movies like that one is what pushes people away from fantasy.

I agree that CG is the only way to do a movie based on the armies of Warhammer.

If it was going to be live action film... then I think it would have to be more like Warhammer Fantasy Role Play... The story would be mainly inside an Empire city ... with the taint of chaos growing... no large scale battles.
