Charmed shield. Discounts first hit suffered on a 2+. Awesome item.

I've recently started wondering exactly what is considered a hit for this item?

Buboes pretty much does an autowounding hit, can the shield be used to ignore this?

What about the 'hit' caused by purple sun / pit of shades? I know the FAQ stipulates these spells to be a hit for the purposes of Look Out Sir! By extension dwellers and clogging quagmire are similar spells (just without templates), can the charmed shield ignore these 'hits' too?

How about the new OnG giant's "wound me or die" pick up attack?

I'm sure there are plenty more of these unusual hits that cause auto-wounds, auto-death, etc. Just how much use is this bargain shield against these?

If it's a "hit" then you can roll to discount the hit. You may need to roll before the hit actually causes a wound, though. Also, it's not a "save" as such, so it appears that it applies even to "hits" that do not allow saves. If you just lose a wound, e.g. due to a dangerous terrain test, no roll.
