Are you sure you're not thinking of the old models (http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_AfIQ2AogLLc/TMB5ztjO_xI/AAAAAAAAAN8/kW_ou-C3JjI/s1600/dark+eldar+wyches+old.jpg) ;)?

I think the olds models are quite cool, but the new ones are definitely better, very nice sculpts.

The new models are much better than the old models.
Jes Goodwin ftw.

ALL of the old ones (exception of the old incubi) are crap.

Good god no, they are some of the best sculpts GW has ever produced and some of the best female sculpts available anywhere.

No. They could have been better, but they certainly aren't crap.

Well, this. Except that I can think of a couple of better female models. The Wyches are exceptionally great models though.

Games workshop ones? I think they are among the best I've seen, actually. Lelith certainly takes the cake - I'm planning to get her for tabletop RPGs, actually.

i'm not the biggest fan of the Wyches but damn there models are top notch... well the whole DE range for that matter. I have a Dark Elf army and I don't like the witch elf models so will jst use these gals instead so win win

The New Wych models are some of the best in the entire Citadel range. The old metal ones looked like absolute trash. They were easily some of the WORST models ever scuplted.

You're just upset that GW is taking all the sexy away, aren't you? :p

Other than the bare arm that a Catachan would be proud of, I really like the new models. Being plastic, they're fairly easy to modify to your own nefarious ends (http://the-bowser.com/de/wych_wip.jpg).

No way. New wyches are awesome. Still like the old incubi better, but that's about the only one. The rest of the new releases kick "bleep".

For the record... damn fine models, the whole range.

When I had the new wyches in plastic I was fairly meh to them, but once I got some paint on them, Damn they are fine.

Though hellions are better

For looks, they're great. But I sure wish they didn't have so many tiny blades and other thin bits that snap and bend so easily. Damaged some bits just trying to remove them from the sprues. I know I'm not the most dextrous person, but was I the only one with that problem?

Sami
03-05-2011, 09:24
When I saw the spures I initially cut them into 4-5 big chunks in places that had no chance of bending any of the actual models (sharp side cutters 4tw), and then worked on them from that.

Oh, and the kit is awesome.

How did you do that? Just filed away the details til smooth thighs were achieved?

Seconded; I'd quite like to do the same for a squad of Bloodbrides I'm planning on using to accompany Lelith. If they can be dressed in a similar manner, it would make the unit look more like her inner circle rather than some folks she's chosen to hang out with for the day. What you've done is perfect for that look.

Not sure how Bushido did it, but for a hekatrix I did it without to much difficulty.
At the front cut away the cloth and the belt, at the back don't add the triangle with the cloth/grenades/amo. Where necessary file/sand away the folds of the pants (not a lot of work as they are skin-tight anyway).
Add green/grey stuff and presto. Very important, don't forget to consult lots of reference material. ;)

Thanks. I'll conduct extensive research tonight. ;)

03-05-2011, 14:44
I scored a line around their thighs where their leggings would stop, and started carefully scraping the detail away above that. The plastic is thick enough that you can carve it into a good shape and don't have to use too much greenstuff to fill in any gaps between the torso and legs.

It's just a matter of having a really sharp knife and a bit of patience.

I like the new Wyches a lot, hated the old ones. The new Kabalites are even better, though.

The only new DE models I hate are Hellions. Mostly because they're a concept that can never look good. Should have just been retconned.

Anybody think this thread is krap?

After skimming through, I can surely say this thread is a great contribution to the WarSeer community.

Without the original post, we wouldn't have all banded together and realized that the new Wych models are actually good!

A friend who saw the Hellions for the first time over the weekend commented that "The Dark Eldar have the Green Goblin on their side now?"

While the sculpting of the new Wyches is better, I prefer the style of the old ones. I find the new ones a tad 'meh'.

Hehehe. I like both the rider and the skyboards, they look great on their own... But it's when you put them together they look like something that should be in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles...

Cheers bushido and Symriven, I shall be considering such nefarious perverted activities.. For my part, as much as i love the Wyches, I'm bloody obsessed with the Hellions. What's not cool about the Green Goblin? My first reaction to the snarling masks half of them wear was 'Blood Pact Iron Grotesks', the riders' outfits are cooler than the wyches', pole-arms are always cool, etc.. Mine are painted in deep bloody red to represent skyboard-mounted wyches (a la the old Hellion background as opposed to the new 'street-gangs of juves and outcasts', though that's bloody ace and inspiring too) of the Khaine-worshipping, blood-crazed Cult of the Wrath Unbound :D

The olds ones weren't that bad compared to the rest of the old dark eldar range.

New ones are much better though. The pic on the last page with the clothing removed from the model is awesome.

Well what a ray of sweetness and light in a part of the forums I thought I shouldn't go!

There's a few pop culture references I could use to describe the old wyches, but all are NSFWS (not safe for Warseer) or at least, not safe for my account here.

New ones are fantastic, and also offer good conversion opportunities for Inq28 and also for a band of Apoc Slaaneshi death cultists I have in mind.

:D I never thought of doing that with my Wychs, awesome paint scheme though.

I loved the new Wych models and I think they are very sexy, but I'm attracted to athletically built Gothic women in real life so I'm kind of biased. :p

Are there enough parts on the sprue to arm them with two close combat weapons each? I ask because I reckon with a bit of pointy ear removal they could make fantastic Death Cult Assassins, I'm building a GK army with Coteaz as HQ so I reckon a unit of 12 assassins would scare the hell out of the bad guys.

bushido
04-05-2011, 20:26
Unfortunately not. All their right hands have pistols, and all their left have daggers/ccws. There are a couple things like the razorflails and hydra gauntlets that have weapons for both hands, but there is only one of each per box.

Devonian Commando
04-05-2011, 20:29
Ok, thanks for that. I'll need to find 10 Eldar sized right hands holding close combat weapons, any kits immediately spring to mind?

Dark Elf Corsairs are a popular option.

Nurgling Chieftain
04-05-2011, 21:11
It's probably simpler to cut off the pistols and replace them with CCW's, keeping the arm/hand. Okay, you might end up with a sword with a trigger, but that's not entirely inappropriate in 40K...

And it fits with the Dark Eldar. Your in a knife fight, when suddenly your knife shoots out a poisoned bullet into your opponent's thigh. Its like throwing dirt in the eyes, but better. Why fight fair?

Some good ideas there guys, I guess power weapons could happily sport triggers.

The corsair weapons look cool too, time to check ebay...
