The Rending Sword allows a character to reroll wounds in close combat, does this allow someone who posses the blade to also reroll their breath weapon wounds or wounds from other sources that count as close combat attacks such as Ichor or Word of Agony in close combat as well?

It seem to be commonly accepted that the effect of magical weapons come into play when they are in use; that is: when making regular close combat attacks.

Breath Weapons have a specific exception where no special rule can alter them.
Even Daemons' Nurgle Reroll to wound banner does not allow to reroll to wound rolls from Breath Weapons but it allows reroll of to wound rolls for Spells.

So no go for the Breath Weapons.

That makes sense for a breath weapon but what about close combat attacks like word of Agony and Acid Ichor, can you reroll those?

I believe I have already answered that question.

The text of the Rending Sword special rules do not limit it to close combat attack made with the weapon. However, it is comonly assumed that it is the attacks with the weapon that are enhanced by its special rules. Are you attacking with the Rending Sword when using the Distendable Maw gift? No.

So, to sum it up: You can, if you wish, argue that the sword affects ALL the character's rolls to wound.

And pray you don't encounter a High Elf making "all hits wound automatically";)

Indeed. The Sword of Hoeth statess simply "All hits wound automatically. Armour saves are modified by the Strength of the bearer."

The foolish would claim that this is OBVIOUSLY meant to mean "all hits made with the sword", but the item text says nothing of the sort. The effect isn't even limited to the current battle!

Well, when you put it like that it occurs to me that the effect isn't even strictly limited to the bearer, or even just his side. That's an awesome deal, for however many points it is, to just take a whole step out of the game completely...

Your Warhammer game will go a lot quicker at your local FLGS if that High Elf player in the corner is using the Sword of Hoeth...
