1. Can someone please confirm whether for a 'Meeting Engagement' you have to throw for Characters 'individually' to see if they get a '1' and are placed in reserves OR can you attach them to units prior to throwing and therefore either come on with the unit or go into reserve with the unit?
In a game on Friday we played it the former way but the Paragraph on P142 'Reserves' seemed to be at odds with this?

Many thanks.

You roll a die for each character and each other unit separately. Units and characters that are in reserve can enter together per p.142.

Note that the second bullet point (I presume that's the one that's confusing the issue for you) is referring to units that roll a die* to come on, not to ones which roll to determine whether they are in reserve in the first place and pretty much doesn't apply to Meeting Engagements because the player chooses when reserve units enter.

*For example if you had to roll a 3+ for each unit to enter the board on a particular turn and had both a character and a unit of regular infantry in reserve, you could either choose to combine them and roll one die, in which case they enter in the same place as a combined unit, or roll two dice (one each) and have them deploy separately.
