I've actually been thinking of doing a Kill Team of one of the Undivided Legions. I'm having a hard time deciding between Alpha Legion, Night Lords, & Black Legion. The main premise will be their an elite squad of warriors sent far behind enemy lines to conduct guerrila operations, sabotage, supply line attacks, communication disruption, assassinations, etc. I will be using Chaos Chosen rules. I've also decided that no matter which one I choose, they will be using the FW Pre-Heresy Armor (Mk. IV - VI) and weapons. It's something I've wanted to do for a while to really concentrate on 5 - 10 models, give them a lot of detail and character. The following is what I want to do, just need some input or ideas:
Alpha Legion: These guys would be set up as a veteran squad of Legionnaires that have infiltrated into the enemy territory through use of subversion. To represent this, I'll probably have their armor painted showing an Ultramarine scheme that's flaked off. They'd have a lot of equipment, such as additional ammo pouches, explosive devices such as frag, krak & melta grenades, and probably some demolition charges. They'd most likely have comm arrays on their power plants, Bolt Pistols mag-locked to their greaves, power swords or gladius' (Chainswords are too loud for their modus operandi) hanging from their belts or mag-locked behind their power plant.
Night Lords: I want to avoid the idea of Raptors or Assault Marines being the emphasis of the 8th Legion (because they're not). The idea for these guys would be that they are sent to an Imperial World and used to sow fear and terror throughout the population by means of terror and random attacks (no on is safe). I'd model these guys with grisly trophies & fetishes hanging about their armor (the Hellion accessories have caught my eye for this). Weapons like Chainswords would be permitted, as they don't care as much about stealth as they do causing panic and instability in the populace. As such, they'd be armed with crude close combat weaponry, high-capacity firearms (Heavy Bolters come to mind), and probably Lightning Claws on at the very least the leader. I had thought about doing 10th Company First Claw, but it seems to be the newest trend and I don't think I could do ADB's characters the representation they deserve.
Black Legion: These guys I picked as my third choice for the challenge alone. So many people do a Black Legion warband, but never give them any personality. They suffer from the same issues that Ultramarines do: They're an interesting force, but they've been so watered down and over used by GW that they've become despised. These guys would more or less be an abandoned squad left to fend for themselves. It could be on the world their main force attacked, or they could have decided to set out on their own. For these guys, I'd want to do something similar to what I have in mind for the Alpha Legion paint scheme-wise. Underneath their Black Legion heraldry, I want you to get a glimpse of their Sons of Horus iconography and colors, to really represent the act of shame this Legion underwent. They'd be very battered, a lot of damage to their armor, using improvised weaponry. The thing about the challenge these guys represent which I like is the thing that actually seems to hinder them: People think they're boring / one-dimensional.
So what do you guys think? Any thoughts? Opinions?
