Not sure if this is 40k, Fantasy, LOTR or something new, so i'll post it here

I just picked up my survival guide to games day uk from my local GW and in there it says an area of the design studio is set aside this year to "project X"

They won't say what it is for obvious reasons, but anyone heard any rumours about what this might be? It seems to be something major, seeing as according to the map, nearly a quarter of the design studio area is given over to it

Dreadfleet?

That, or The Hobbit...

Edit: Having thought about this more, my gut instinct is one of three things:

1. The Hobbit. With the film due next year, then it would make sense to announce it now. That said, i doubt that GW would be allowed to show likenesses of characters, etc. so far in advance of the release date (given how little we've been shown of even what's in the movie) and it seems like an awfully big area just for an announcement with no figures

2. Dreadfleet. Yes i know it's not a mystery any more, but we don't know when this guide was published/ sent out to stores. I know GW has had a huge crack down on leaks and rumours this year, so it could just be them covering their tracks in case one of these guides slipped the net got out before last weeks announcement

3. Something completely new that's slipped under the rumour/leak radar, in which case i say well done GW...

Its not the first time GW has used the term Project X for a new release. I'd go Hobbit myself.

I'm going to throw a wish out there but...Gorkamorka?

Any re-release of specialist games would be amazing, but the more i think, the more i'm going off the idea of it being The Hobbit.

The films release is too far away. Remember when LOTR was first released and how tight a lid GW kept on everything right up until the movie's release? That's because the film makers didn't want to give anything away, so i highly doubt it's The Hobbit. Maybe next year, but it's too far away right now i think

Probably just dreadfleet - maybe on a much larger scale like the giant chess sets you sometimes see in parks. The Hobbit film isn't out until christmas 2012, so I doubt it is that.

A new game where pirate hobbits sail boats round a spacehulk to battle the evil ork clans... while playing american football?

They also ride plastic giants.

It's probably just Dreadfleet.

Most likely The Hobbit, but I am sure they are even now working out ideas for the next boxed game after Dread Fleet. Fingers crossed for Battlefleet Gothic with a star mat similar to the sea mat in DF. :)

Why on earth would it be dreadfleet? That boats already sailed. If I had to go with anything it would be the hobbit - its well known that whilst the writing of source material wont take that long sculpting and plastic kit design does.

Never going to happen.:shifty:

If only. I loved Gorkamorka. Best vehicle combat rules ever from anyone.

Yes. This is my guess. Dreadfleet being played with 3 ups.
Just like Jervis and others were playing Warhammer fantasy battle with a 3-ups of the night goblins and Dwarves a couple of years ago.
3 up dice, 3 up rulebook, etc. Great fun.

Why on earth would it be dreadfleet? That boats already sailed. No one has played a game yet. (outside the studio).
It is after all "Games Day". I imagine they will be trying to showcase and promote this game. I would think a good way to do that is to give folks the opportunity to play a game or two.

I will definitely get a game in if I get the chance.

Capitulation to the finecast setback and an announcement of a return to metal? OK, I'll stop daydreaming :(

I'd say either dreadfleet or whatever faction book is due next.

Obvious test, isn't there? Is there any area marked out on the same map as for Dreadfleet?

If not, then by simple process of deduction...

Project X?

Hobbit? There are pictures out of the dwarves, Bilbo, and Gandalf, so they should be safe to preview. Bilbo model with Sting? Also helps build hype and boost LoTR some.

Warhammer 40K 6th? Maybe, announcement, maybe announcing some new elements like scalable battles and FOCs, rules for Fliers and Superheavies, play 40K like you never have before! Early hype is good for this.

Bringing back some of the specialist games like Epic and/or BFG? Would love this, but very unlikely. :(

Plastic Thunderhawk? Had to be guessed

Powerpuff Girls? Oh wait, that was Chemical X...:D

Same here.

..although when I said we should get together and "sink a few" this isn't quite what one had in mind :D

I'm 90% certain this is indeed Dreadfleet related.

Looking forwards to the Tau vs Space Wolf table and the rumoured SoB vs Necrons one too.

My 2cent's

The hobbit is way to soon...

40K 6th I thingk next year on Games day ;)

Dreadfleet wil not be supported for long so giving it lots of room on games day would be strange, space hulk did not get any extra input on games day last year.

Next up is Necron's, it is a big area of the design studio so it would be nice like last year it was dark eldar.... :)

+ the Necrons range is as of today almost totaly offline

So I go for.......... X marks the spot were the Necron's will resurrect.......

Thanks One:cool:

I would have to agree that it is most likely anything BUT LoTR/WoTR and a boost to some random faction of 40k is likely.

However it is the 10th anniversary of LoTR initial release. Most of the army books are no longer available and the Hobbit is next year(previews this christmas though). Even then at most all we would get would be a revamped rule book that included the Legions of Middle Earth and charcters/units from the source books.

just does not seem big enough for project X.

It was .... Dread Fleet and lots of it.
No 3-up game ... although all the 2-ups, 3-ups and mock ups were there in a cabinet.

You mean it wasn't 40K 6th Ed sneaking up out of nowhere? I am surprised.

You mean it wasn't 40K 6th Ed sneaking up out of nowhere? I am surprised. Too early/ too late.

40K 6e would be due for a July-September release schedule, so GD is far too late, or with GWs current rumours policy too soon.

November's 40K release would have been more appropriate. Obviously Project X meant that by the time they were going to print with plans etc the release date for Dreadfleet still hadn't been confirmed.

this whole projectx thing annoyed the hell out of me. whats the keeping dread fleet a secret when it was announce like a week ago?

it should have been the next army release for one of the systems.

this is my 5th GD and its the worst, there was nothing revealed that we didn't know already (except that Warhammer forge monster arcana book) and there were no freebies (unless you bought something).

It wasn't meant to be a secret secret, but just that Project X is a better name. The X makes it cool (like extortion)
