I recently purchased a Tyranid army via ebay. It included a large resin model resembling a piece of artillery. Here is a picture. http://i4.ebayimg.com/05/i/06/ac/c2/cf_1.JPG

What is it? Does anyone know the rules or where I can find them? I couldn't find it on forgeworld.

It is an exocrine and it is an armourcast sculpt not a forgeworld one. Armourcast made titans and large vehicles before forgeworld came into the works.

That is an Exocrine.

This may sound like stupid advice, but becareful using that sucker in GW stores, as the ones I have been in wont let you use non GW models.

You could use Squats as IG before you could ever use that thing. Save it for friendly games.

It basically has a twin linked, long barrelled, mega venom cannon on it.

Do you know where I can get stats for it? It sounds like they may be quite old from what you'r saying though...

Best bet would be the "design your own Tyranid critter" rules from a WD a while back. Don't know which one though, cause they're numbered differently here and in the states.

The rules for creating gargantuan Nids where also in Chapter Approved, and you could always use the VDR for it. It also seems that there are new rules for Tyranid construction in IA4, but you should check feedback here (once they hit the crows) before you run buying it just on that rumour.

BTW: That Exocrine desperately needs a new paintjob...

I'd just use it as a Barbed Hierodule, the rules fit.

only a tyranid palyer could get away painting his models pink, yellow blue and pruple.

It fits exactly for it's time. The Time where you could field an entire army painted as clowns (Harlequins anyone :D ).

I don't remember if these are the rules from the Creature Design Rules article, but I had them written down somewhere:

Exocrine - 128pts
Ws4, Bs4, s8, t6, w3, i2, a1, ld10, sv2+
Normal Movement, Bio Cannon
Bio Cannon: r48" s10 ap4 Assault 1 Blast

That'll be a mighty prized addition to your army once you update it's colour scheme... a rare find indeed!

You haven't been around Thousands Sons much have you?Or Noise Marines!

I would like to formally apolagize for the paint job on the exocrine. Its monsterous. When opened the box to find that thing included in the Army I nearly had a seizure.

I like the paintjob to be honest. Looks like a Tyranid at least. Bone and red is just for small critters.;)

heheh. Kill the 'crine. I'd like to see it go against my Scorpion and see what's left of the biomass....
: D

But indeed, an excellent find. (does this thread seem to be going around in circles?)

Does it count as a Super Heavy Support? Becase I know realize if I use it against guard I may be looking at a baneblade...

Puffin Magician
13-04-2006, 23:38
It's not a superheavy anything. It's basically the Tyranid equivalent to a Basilisk. How big is it, Land Raider-sized?

For those of you who have never seen these old Epicast Tyranids, or just want size comparisons, here are a few pics of the Exocrine, Malefactor and Haruspex.

Big pictures to show the REAL BIG size of these guys!!!

I'm a fairly young player, only 16. When were the squats discontinued? And why? Were they as bad as they look?

Bad as they look? Compared to what? Pretty much everything at that time was butt ass ugly.

They were discontinued back at the start of second edition, around '91. I was 8 years old, back in '88 when I started to buy Squats.

They were discontinued because the develpoment team was too lazy to work on them properly, sort of like how the Dark Eldar are being treated...

Many people say that they got discontinued due to sales. Not true. It was pure laziness. Check out Squats in Wikipedia.com. There is a link to Jervis Johnson (or Andy Hoare, I forget) I believe who speaks on why the squats were discontinued.

The truth was that squats, at the time, was the only fantasy to future army that actually was too sci fi. It wasn't fantasy enough, and thusly didn't fit the feel the developers were trying to achieve at the time.

Something about the old models just roars 'this is 1985!'
What a time to have been alive...
