View Full Version : Slaanesh Lost and the Damned - Demonworld project

16-04-2006, 18:49
I figured I'ld start an army building log from start to finish - my small way of saying thanks to all the great sites I visit for trading and ideas.

I've been planning and slowly assembling this project over the past year or so.

My idea is basically to do a Lost and the Damned army - however focus it on the old Daemonworld list in the appendix of the 2nd Edition Chaos Codex. What that basically means is an army for the mostpart devoid of CSM, but with lots of 'fodder' led by a pretty substantial Demon Prince. These armies battle armies of other gods for control of planets or other stakes in the Eye.

I decided to focus on a Slaaneshi army - with a strong theme towards a beastherd.

The 2nd Edition Demonworld list allowed the following units (plus various allies, though I'll only include some traitiors - ala IG allies):

1 Demon Prince - mandatory
Greater Daemons
Daemonic Icon Bearer
Chaos Warrior Champions
Chaos Magus (sorcerer)
Beastmen Champions
Daemons (all sorts)
Chaos Warrior Warbands
Chaos Hounds

Obviously I'll have to bend that list to at least field a partially competitve list, but I'm trying to stick to that theme as much as possible.

I'll update where I'm headed as the army progresses (don't want to let all the cats out of the bag yet!) but my mandatory units are going to be 3 units of 18 beastmen (count as mutants) all including a beastman champion (mutant boss) and led by a Chaos Warrior Champion (count as CSM Aspiting Champions).

So...here is the test scheme I posted in the general painting a week or so ago - I'm happy with the current look...

16-04-2006, 19:03
Here are some shots of the first mutant unit, prepaint. included in each beastman unit will be a standard bearer (icon bearer), musician, and 2 beastmen with flamers. Each unit also has a few minor conversions - every beastman has a chain weapon of sorts to '40k' them, there are also some weapon swaps and additional wraps, loincloths where needed as I'm using the color on these to seperate units.

This particular unit has a Boss with a powerfist and is led by a Chaos Warrior Champion with a Powerfist and a MoCU (Okay, I realize I should have gone with MoS but I'm going to need all the help I can get - this army is going to have a tough time winning any games!)

Here is the first unit:

And the Beastman Champ:

And the attached Chaos Warrior Champion:

16-04-2006, 19:33
WOW! I love your test model man! (When I played Slaaneshi LatD my traitors took so much crap for being pink that I switched to nurgle!)

The conversions are great, but the mutant squad doesn't really have the diversity that I like in mutants (which is okay, I'm just weird like that). Your two champions are awesome as well! I hope to see more in the future, keep it up dude!

16-04-2006, 20:53
Very cool stuff! And no Marines...totally awesome! Check the PM I sent you!

16-04-2006, 21:14
the mutant squad doesn't really have the diversity that I like in mutants
Which, of course, it what makes it stand out from the usual "let's see what I have in my bitz box" mutant squad...

Good stuff - keep it coming!

village idiot
16-04-2006, 21:41
I have to say, I love all the stuff you've done here, and it's even better knowing that you'll give them a nice paintjob, if the test mini is anything to go by.

Although, I'm sorry, but i really don't like the power fist on the slaanesh champion (the mortal one), it's bulkiness just goes against the otherwise relatively slender model.

16-04-2006, 22:11
that beastman champion is looking like one mean **** :D

I don't particularily like the chaos warrior champion, its a bit too WFB.

16-04-2006, 22:13
Although, I'm sorry, but i really don't like the power fist on the slaanesh champion (the mortal one), it's bulkiness just goes against the otherwise relatively slender model.
My thoughts exactly!

The rest of the stuff is superb. Love the paintjob too!

16-04-2006, 22:46
I'll definately admit that this particular champ is the weakest of the 3 I've built (this guy is by far the closet to 'stock', but wanted to have 2 w/ powerfists and wanted to get this champ in the army...so he had to be a powerfist guy). The champ I've got with a power weapon most definately could not have a powerfist...but that champ will be shown later...

16-04-2006, 23:07
well if you must then try placing the powerfist outwards so it's the same stance the original model has, i think that may work.

16-04-2006, 23:22
What about trying to find the old Eldar weapons sprue, that powerfist might be more fitting? Or what about the claw of the Raptor Champion...or even better the claw of the Necron Flayed Ones?

16-04-2006, 23:38
the witch king left hand from the dark elves range.

That's all I'll say.

17-04-2006, 00:51
OK, so taking the C&C into consideration, I've slapped this guy together which I think is definately better suited for the fist...

Of course the final product will be standing on a rock or something...

17-04-2006, 01:10
What about giving him some shoulder mounted weapon, similar to some Inquisitor models? Or some weird bionic eye?

17-04-2006, 02:07
you should just leave him standing like that... That'd be awesome! sort of a "Hi-ho, hi-ho, and off to war we go!" look.

nah just kidding. I love beastmen in 40k. This army looks to be very very promising.

keep up the good work, and maybe check out some dark eldar figs for slender powerweapons.

25-04-2006, 13:50
Tough week here - but finally an update!

I decided to figure out the pallette for my Slaanesh daemons before continuing with the beasts...

Here are some pics of the 2 daemonettes I've painted - I think the lighter shades will compliment the darker beastmen nicely...

25-04-2006, 13:51
And a close up to show off some detail...

25-04-2006, 16:08
very nice, i really like the silver, makes the model really cold along with the pale paint job

Hideous Loon
25-04-2006, 18:36
Wow, your Daemonettes look really nice and smooth, just like Daemonettes should. You really, REALLY have talent, and I envy you massively.

25-04-2006, 19:43
i love the beastman with powerfist nice and simple but effective.

25-04-2006, 20:11

Monty python anyone?

Btw, this stuff is the shizzle. Keep it up.

25-04-2006, 20:22
Monty python anyone?

Yeah, mate. This stuff rocks harder than the Grand Canyon. Keep up the exceptionaly inspired work.

Dave out.

26-04-2006, 15:14
dude the hammer to 40k conversions look sooooooo right but so wrong at the same time. they look awsome. keep it up, i wana see more ...

26-04-2006, 23:24
Thankd for the compliments guys!

Monty Python...lol...

Next up I'll lkey start the first group of beasts...

18-05-2006, 15:02
Wow - been a little while but finally an update!

These guys are taking awhile to paint, but I'm very happy with the results so far.

So...Here are the first 3 Beastmen (Mutants) finished (Except Bases - I'll base the whole army at the same time once complete)

18-05-2006, 15:11
That mutants are awesome! Although I'm fantasy player, I like to see some good wh40k stuff.
Keep it so!

18-05-2006, 16:23
looking really nice there, can't wait to see those characters painted though!

18-05-2006, 17:12
ditto very nice

19-05-2006, 02:36
i personally like the first aspiring champion maybe even more so than the second one.

are you going to add any pistos or anything for the beasts.?

also i would think a good candidate for a second HQ character would be a beast lord unless your adding the KoS.

and for vehicles what are you planning?

i have always liked beatmen in 40K. i might even think of doing my own, but there will probly be minotaurs in mine if i would do so. either that or dragon ogres. even both?

19-05-2006, 13:43
Thanks guys.

No pistols or other 40k bits for the actual beasts/gors/mutants - I want them to be as low tech as possible. I picture them not having the intellect/patience to use/care about using firearms - just wanting to close and get to grips as soon as possible.

There will be traitors though...

The 2nd HQ for this army will be a Demon Prince - mainly in sticking to the Demonworld theme - every demonworld army is led by a Demon Prince according to the fluff. And I happen to think that paints a great image - a Demon Prince at the head of his horde of minions.

I'm going to try to play the army without vehicles, although I have some interesting ideas for sentinals and tanks...

As far as minotaurs & Dragon Ogres, well, can't let all the cats out of the bag at once...:D

19-05-2006, 14:16
Those look fantstic. Never thought of using gor before.

11-06-2006, 12:23
Haven't done much painting of late (new job...LOTS of hours) BUT I have found some time to build...and will soon be posting of my GW tourney Demon Prince (I've got 3 unbuilt so far, though this is the only one 'allowed' in a GT).

I'll be snapping some pics soon...

11-06-2006, 22:27

As promised here are the pics of the Demon Prince...

First is the original concept - was going to go with the 'snake' body...

11-06-2006, 22:29
After fiddling with this off on on for a month or so, I decided since he is leading a chaos army of beasts - they should be in his 'form' so to speak.

So this is the finished product, I'm pleased with him:

11-06-2006, 22:30
And a few more...

11-06-2006, 23:56
looking good

Math Mathonwy
12-06-2006, 06:18
That extra arm is a bit funny looking, though. Looks like he's giving a high-five to someone (well, more like something - a wraithlord perhaps). Otherwise that is one helluva model. I especially like the fact that you used Beastman legs but turned them big.

12-06-2006, 08:32
love gors skin tone good work.

Not sure of demon convo specially that hand in the air extra arm, the rest of the convo is very nice and legs way better than the thin snake body.

maybe repositioning the arm could fix it.

Keep it going its looking like a great army.;)

12-06-2006, 09:37
Loving that Daemon Prince conversion! :D

12-06-2006, 10:09
I like it a lot. But wheres the trso and head from? I don't reconise it.

With the third arm why not put a bracelet (chained) around it and have him carrying a huge rock or skull as if he's about to smash someone in the face with it.

Maybe even make the fluff that his mutation was considered a sin on the planet he was born and they chained his mutation to a huge stone to show his shame. And he now uses it as a weapon to show his mutation is a gift not a punishment?

The top Gor os them three scares the hell out of me.. It reminds me of hentai kamen (the exact strut is how he walks..) so erm, I'll leave you witht his image http://www.furinkan.net/mirror/hentai_kamen_v01c03_084.png and worry that Gor has a thong and stockings under his fur..

12-06-2006, 10:54
I like it a lot. But wheres the trso and head from? I don't reconise it.The torso is Be'Lakor’s, don't know about the head, but I certainly would like to...

This is going to be one hell of an army, if you paint it to the same standard as the models you've done so far then you will win some competitions.

Personally I really like the bulky arm on the champion, it looks crab like, if you know what I mean, and fits the theme very well.

Currently I feel your weakest models are the DP and the caped champion. The champ looks very fantasy, and there's nothing on it that really screams that he's in the 41st millennium, the powerfist goes some way, but not enough IMO. The DP, he looks oddly proportioned, and just like a fish out of water really. What did you use for the plastic portion of the legs?

Also, just thought I'd say yours is the only demon I've ever seen that can pull off a bicep in its tail :D.

Very impressive, and sigged :D, the "l" of link.

EDIT: Forgot to ask, how do you paint silver? It looks fantastic :D.

12-06-2006, 20:09
Thanks for the C&C all...

After looking some more I decided I'm also not too fond of the big claw hand...

So I decided to swap that out.

I was originally trying to do a chain necklace (Mikari) but couldnt get it to look right - great idea on around the wrist!

So...pics to show what I did to 'fix' him...

12-06-2006, 20:24
The hooves strike me as a bit large for the rest. This doesn't necesarily matter cos he's chaos which means odd really.

I believe the legs are from a rat ogre and the head is from a chaos ogre. Am i right?

12-06-2006, 20:45
pitfigther mordheim ogre? what do i win?

13-06-2006, 02:48
pitfigther mordheim ogre? what do i win?

Yay! I didn't remember where it was from - got it at Gamesday a few years back figuring one day it would be a cool DP head...

13-06-2006, 03:36
I think the hooves are the right scale. Go figure

The normal sword now looks a little odd. It looks more high elf than Chaos and needs to be made more daemonic or replaced IMO. The rest looks evil then that looks like he's using an Eldar weapon.

13-06-2006, 03:37

13-06-2006, 11:44
I think the sword and the hooves will look good once the paint is on.

I actually like the larger hooves (kind of reminds me of the Heresy line Netherlord)

The sword is going to be painted pure black with a minimum of highlighting and a couple coats of gloss (ala Dark Blade)

06-08-2006, 20:51
Apologies to all on the long hiatus - I've been studying for the series 7 exam so haven't had much time to do much here. Anyway, aced the test so can now continue with the beasts!

I've got all 3 units of mutants/beasts assembled at this point (more or less - may add some GS penants & armbands to a few).

Rather than bore you with pics of a bunch of unpainted troopers, I'll just post the highlights - the 2 new Mutant/Beastman Bosses and the other 2 Aspiring Champs...

Here are the bosses:

06-08-2006, 20:52
And the 2 other Aspiring Champs:

06-08-2006, 20:54
That 1st boss conversion is very subtle at first, but on second look its obvious.

Love it.

06-08-2006, 21:39
I love this army, really glad to see you getting back into it.
I have to find a camera to get my LaTD documented now that they're finished...

Great work, really like the new champs...

06-08-2006, 21:58
Nice work here.

Going back a bit to the daemon prince (if you've already painted it then this may be too late, but anyway...) I think the third arm makes it a bit unbalanced - maybe it needs a fourth arm to even things up a bit?

07-08-2006, 02:53
The second beasts boss is ******* awesome, as is the first khorne-inspired model.

Great work :).

07-08-2006, 14:52

SUPERB! The most 40k like converson from fantasy I had ever seen... I mean, all other conversons are nice ( except that Slaanesh with Power fist ), maybe chainsaw unstead that claver...

And very nice paintjob...

07-08-2006, 16:16
i like the 2nd edition power claw usage,

love that fist

07-08-2006, 16:54
you're good at this daemon world stuff! lol

well done

08-08-2006, 23:37
Thanks for the compliments guys - I appreciate it. I'm quite happy how things are shaping up.

I actually prefer the 3 arms to 4 on the DP to be honest...just feels more 'chaosy' to me..

09-08-2006, 06:39
Some very very nice work here (I will have to re-visit this one again) especially the painting, all coming along well. What strikes me though is that everyone is 'too mutated' and that the 40K element is achieved only via weapon choices. Is this a conscious decision or did it just happen like that?
Were I to do a similar army I would probably whant to show varying stages IE beastment legs humantorso and head (and vise versa) or just a beastman head on a human body.
That said this still all looks great and I look forward to seing more. Well done and keep it up

09-08-2006, 13:36
thanks Old Guard.

It actually is a very deliberate...

Because the army is meant to be a Demonworld army in my mind the beastmen would be full fledged beastmen. Also because I'm basing this off the 2nd Edition Demon World list (mostly - a few 'other' choices will be coming), beastmen were allowed to take chain weapons as wargear, champs powerfists, etc. I want the beastmen/chaos champs to 'barely' be 40k style.

BTW - your 'halfbreed' beastmen will be arriving on this thread soon enough....

10-08-2006, 23:15
SUPERB! The most 40k like converson from fantasy I had ever seen... I mean, all other conversons are nice ( except that Slaanesh with Power fist ), maybe chainsaw unstead that claver...

Loving your stuff.

On the axe and powerfist beastman champion lose the gs cable and add guitar string... always looks better, imho.

Keep it up.

11-08-2006, 07:10
Looking brilliant, lovely work, i may steal some of these ideas for a future army.

Keep up the good work.

12-08-2006, 06:40
I'm truly impressed. The Daemonettes look beautiful and deadly, just like they should. The Daemon Prince is looking good too.

Only thing I have to complan about is the somewhat rough highlight on the axe had on the Beasts on page 2-3. And the Khornate Chainsword arms could be a little further up on the arms. Right now, it looks like they should start at the elbow. But the begin where the wrist should be, sort of...

Great work, keep it going!

19-08-2006, 14:08
Time for an update!

As this is sort of a 'fantsy gone 40k' army I'm building, I figured from the getgo I'ld be trying to more or less fit it to a Beasts of Chaos army as well as the 2nd Ed. Daemonworld list.

Along those lines, most BoC armies have both gors and ungors...most LatD armies have mutants and traitors...

So, despite the fact these guys stry from the 'true' demonworld army list (they were allowed to have allied forces from the IG book back then) I've done up some triators to finish my troops...Hope you like!

19-08-2006, 14:10
I'm not really sure on squad size (6 or 12) or weapon choices yet, so I gave myself a few options.

First up are the lascannons and agitators:

19-08-2006, 14:11
Next are heavy stubbers:

19-08-2006, 14:14
And finally heavy bolters:

Now that the troops are done (unless I do a unit of gibbering hordes) I'll do a group shot of the army in the next day or so, then start painting troops.

I figur what I've built so far is roughly 2/3 of the total modle count. Once I finish the troops I get into the 'fun' stuff...

19-08-2006, 14:15
Haha, great work on them, particularly the weapon conversion, but overall a very very good look unit :).

19-08-2006, 14:25
that unit looks fantastic, my only critisism (sp?) is that the hands are normal, not like the heads or legs, are you just going to paint the hands in the same scheme as the legs etc?

19-08-2006, 14:35
Well, for the most part beastmen still have humanish hands/arms.

And yes the hands will still be the blueish purple beast color I'm using.

The flesh on the traitors will likely be somewhere between the gor color and daemonette color if I can pull it off correctly.

19-08-2006, 15:16
sir, you are teh ownage

19-08-2006, 16:06
Nice use of beastmen.
What is the metal piece you used with the flamers to make up the lascannons?

EDIT: YAY! 200 posts!

19-08-2006, 19:05
Awsome LATD there, I'm currently working on some mutants myself so this is good stuff. Any ideas on an army list yet or are you making it as you go along? Could you give me a breakdown of the parts you used on the deamon prince, he looks amazing :D. On the traitors, did you use the smaller beastman legs or are they the same size as the beastman legs you used on the mutants?

Lord Gordonis
19-08-2006, 19:53
Awesome LatD army you got there especially the bosses and there are cool conversions as well!

You weren't kidding. Niiiiiiiiccccce!

'BTW - your 'halfbreed' beastmen will be arriving on this thread soon enough....'

You weren't kidding. Niiiiiiiiccccce!

Heh, thought you'ld enjoy them Old Guard!

Aquilla - the metal part of the lascannons are Necromunda Delaque Lascannons:

Primarch16 - The legs on the traitors are using the smaller beasts, the ungors bodies.

As far as the DP goes:

Parts are the following:

Bloodthirster Feet
Rat Ogre legs
Mutation Sprue tentacle arm
Mutation Sprue Clawed Hand arm
3 Ogre Bull hands
Belakor Torso, Tabard, Wings
Bloodthirster whip
Dark Elf chain bit skull
Avatar Sword
Inquisitor scale Chainsword
Mordheim pit ogre head
Chain (bought at Ragshop - local craft store)
Platicard strip

I dont recall where I got the specific horns and the pommel to the whip.

As far as an army list of what I intend to do at this point:

Statured DP
2 female DP's (non GW models, just cause I want to paint them in this color scheme)
1 non statured DP

3 Champs

3 units 18 Gors/Mutants, each w/ 2 flamers, Icon, boss

Traitors as shown (haven't decided how to field them yet)

Maybe 6 Gibbering Hordes bases

2 units 6 daemonettes

6 Big Muties

3 'count as' Obliterators

6, maybe 12 furies of Slaanesh

6, maybe 12 roughriders

3 units of 4 'count as' Chaos Spawn

As I close in on finishing the army I MAYBE will do 'count as' sentinals, Leman Russ, Basilisk if I can figure out how to do them correctly, those are a bit tougher to tie into the theme...

20-08-2006, 16:54
Cant wait too see the trops all painted up, looking great so far.
I like the way you've constructed everything, they all look complimentary to each other.

20-08-2006, 17:27
Ssorck, those Traitors are excellent - supergood troops!
How have you been getting on with the BM sprue, though - I've been doing something similar for some WHFB Marauders, y'see, and I'm only getting three ungor bodies - with their necessary legs...

Have you been using the Gor bodies, too? I've been finding way too much height/size discrepency between the Ungors, Gors and humans meaning that they'd look a bit stupid... you seemed to have pulled everything off with aplomb!

20-08-2006, 19:46
absolutely awesome work ssork, very nice indeed.

28-08-2006, 00:05

As far as the BoC sprues...Iused all my Gors as mutants, I only use the Ungors for traitors. I agee that the gor legs would be too large when combined with 'human' sized figs...

28-08-2006, 00:20
How could I have missed this thread?

I remember when you posted the test scheme over in M,P&T. I made a mental note to keep an eye out for your stuff. I guess the mind isn't as sharp as it used to be...*puts down the Jack and Coke*.

Anyways, great progress. I just looked through the thread quickly and I must say that it's looking good. Some really mice conversions. And, the painting ain't too shabby,;)

28-08-2006, 03:20
who gives a damn if there to large we are talking about mutants here

28-08-2006, 05:44
I am thoroughly impressed! You have inspired me! Keep up the great looking work!

01-09-2007, 13:06
After a looong time I've finally decided to come back and finish this log. I had three issues that made me stop 40k for the most part:

1) Work...

2) Laziness & other distractions

3) Once the word of a new chaos codex came out I stopped because I didn't want to pull the 'finish an army I can't use' routine. As it stands GW did has in fact killed LatD for the most part.

After much deliberation I have thought of (in my mind anyway) a great way to play a mutant based LatD legally - defile our arch-enemy list - Witchhunters - and use count as rules! I really think this will work and am now quite motivated to start up again, despite still having about 1/4 of the built or planned models unusable.

So...my new list I will be working towards will look like this most likely:

HQ - Demon Prince (Counts as Inquisitor Lord Karamazov - his stats actually resemble a DP for the most part, though I'll likely either do a new prince without wings or build a chaos 'Throne of Injustice'

HQ - Power Armored Lord with jumpack (Will count as a canoness - fits in the theme, trust me)

Elite - 3 Daemonettes (Will count as DC Assassins)

Elite - 3 Daemonettes (Will count as DC Assassins)

Elite - Slaaneshi Daemon Champion (Will count as Everseer Assassin)

Troop - Beastmen Mutants (Count as Zealots)

Troop - Beastmen Mutants (Count as Zealots)

Troop - Traitor Guard (Inducted Guard Platoon)

Troop - Traitor Guard (Inducted Guard Platoon)

Troop - Power Armored trrops (Count as Sisters of Battle)

Troop - Power Armored troops (Count as Sisters of Battle)

Fast - Power Armored Jump Troops (Count as Seraphim)

Fast - Traitor Roughriders

Heavy - Will count as Exorcist - Haven't figured out how to build yet

Heavy - Will count as Exorcist - Haven't figured out how to build yet

I'll likely finish the rest of the stuff too, never know may become usable again. I'm not 100% set on the Exorcists, may change my mind to either penitent engines (despite crappy rules) or Traitor Russes.

So thats my plan. I think the withhunter list with Zealots can represent a LatD list pretty effectively, and what great blasphemy to debase that list!

02-09-2007, 06:45
Traitor russes and a defiler would fit the bill !!

02-09-2007, 09:36
Love your conversions, hoping for some more painted soon, as the first few were fantastic

You sir, are an awesome painter!

It seems that every time I finally decide to go with another fantasy army, something or someone makes me change my mind. After a loong time thinking I was quite sure that I would go with wood elves, and now you present these *******' slaanesh beastmen... consider me subscribed, I'm so interested in what you can achieve with your painting skills...

On the minis:

1. traitor GORdsmen are really a piece of converting art. I'd go with some more "40k-izing", using pistol holsters or grenades attached to belts, but it's just me

2. the daemon prince looks very promising. I'd personally go with some more hair on torso and arms, as belakor's sculpt doesn't have any (as far as I can remember) so hair on legs and hooves only can ruin the general "balancing" of the miniature (again, that's just my impression). Besides that, aren't slaaneshi daemons supposed to have shaved legs?:p

3. would you mind to share the recipe for beastmen's flesh? (sorry but I haven't read all the posts, so if you already posted it just let me know)

Again, great minis

03-09-2007, 15:27
Minor update...

The first thing I set out to do take a look at how to utilize my batch of traitors as a IG platoon with the least amount of hastle.

My heavy stubber guys will now count as autocannons, so the first platoon layout will be:

1 Command squad w/ 2 plasmas and an AC
2 Squads with las/GL

Turns out all I needed to add is 1 GL, 2 plasmas and the junior officer.

So here they are:

Toschenko - I agree with the 40k bits for the traitors - they actually all have some type of equiment, you just can't see it in the pics. Check out the rear shot above, all the las guys have the equipment packs that include canteen and bayonet.

I'll post the flesh recipe once I figure it out again, its been awhile since I painted so I'm going to have to figure that out again.

03-09-2007, 15:57
Ok, now all I can say is that you really have to put some paint on them!

Never mind for the recipe, I can wait... I'm still looking for a spare beastman at my club to try that scheme :p

Oh, and very kool spotter/officer!

I like these, really inspiring. I might have to copy some of your idea. :p

06-09-2007, 11:48
Thanks for the comments.

Another small update - I've got one of my 'roughriders' more or less done, just need to add some more random bits.

Planning on doing 14 (mabe 16) of these guys - 10 guys with lances, 2 Sgts, and probably 2 (maybe 4) with meltaguns in case I want to send 'em tank hunting.

So here is my 1st '40k centigor'

06-09-2007, 14:07
Mmmh, I'm not too keen of the hair on abdomen, IMHO it doesn't blend with the rest of the lower body. I'd try to sculpt something like muscles, or maybe a simple belt (but this comes from someone who has really poor sculpting abilities...). Moreover, I find the sculpted part too "stretched", in comparison with the rest of the miniature, maybe shortening it a pair of mm could help (but that's just my impression... and I'm being over-critical here :o)

BTW, I really like the idea, and the upper body is very well executed.

07-09-2007, 02:39
Hmmm, got to agree with you on the hair - not my best work and looks out of place a bit.

07-09-2007, 15:15
Could add some more hair around the flanks and the feet. Then it wouldn't look out of place.

08-09-2007, 13:58
man that is one seriously sexy LatD army.

i love the 40kification of fantasy bits.

the daemon princes are great and i love the beastmen with heavy bolters - so simple, yet they work perfectly, though i do think the hoofed 'guardsmen' would look better with ungor heads.

great stuff keep it up!

15-09-2007, 01:03
Great conversion work on these guys, and they look very good painted too! Keep up the good work!

15-09-2007, 07:57
i agree with adding more hair around the flanks and the feet, unless you can sculpt muscles well enough for the abdomens.

15-09-2007, 17:27
Mmm, this looks delicious. I especially like the powerfist champions. The fur on the 'Rough Rider' wouldn't be so out of place if you put some fur on the lower body as well. Just to tie it in with the furry beastman torso.

15-09-2007, 21:33
Those are some awesome conversions dude. Keep up the good work.

16-09-2007, 00:02
lovely conversions

16-09-2007, 10:57
I'm really liking that Centigor.

16-09-2007, 11:14
I'd love to play aginst or alongside this army when it's finished.

I think it'd compliment my colourscheme quite well actually :)

16-09-2007, 11:22
Wow :D
Fantastic painting, great conversions, brilliant theme; I'd go on but I'd run out of superlatives ;)

17-09-2007, 16:51
These are some very nice beastmen. :)

17-09-2007, 17:06
Awesome dude, now get cracking on the painting!

17-09-2007, 17:09
Amazing stuff dude, loving all the conversion work... especially on the beastmen and the traitor guard... lovely work.

You're paint-jobs are really nice too... I especially like the 'thousand yard stare' you've given the Beastmen... exceptional work. can't wait to see this army complete :)

18-09-2007, 13:02
Thanks for the comments guys, I appreciate the encouragement!
After Toshenko pointed out the rough fur work on the centigor I decided to go a different route all together. I've decided to add a sort of scalemail shirt to each of the centigors. I really think this greatly improve the look.

18-09-2007, 13:17
Two posts at once!

I've also finished my first power armored trooper. Credit for the design goes to Doghouse - I fell in love his his 'gothic' style marines as soon as he posted his first few eons ago. To me that is how a marine (or in this case anyone in PA) should look - slowly advancing, showing almost contempt for the small arms fire bouncing off the armor as he slowly advances laying down a hail of bolter shells.

These guys will count as SOB when using the Witchhunter list style army, and my overall 'eventual' plan will be to have them also able to 'count as' enhanced marines of Fabius Bile...more on that idea to follow in due time...

Enough rambling, here are some pics...

I've got the first unit of 10 to the Greenstuff stages, but have a big work related test next week so HOPING to finish the first unit in 2ish weeks.

18-09-2007, 13:35
Impressive green-stuffing work; the gasmask and fur are very well done :D

18-09-2007, 14:20
remember they are beastmen after all, so dont make the scale male the greatest shape, leave holes and stuff would be more fitting for a beast.

18-09-2007, 19:21
Now the centigor (erm, rough rider) is looking far better than before (IMHO :D): just try to do what Orcdom suggest, punch some holes in the chainmail and make the edges not so straight.

I'm very impressed by the power armored guy: he's looking just... right.

Great work,

18-09-2007, 20:53
The marine looks very nice. :) What is the base of the "horsey" model? I'm not very versed in 40K models...

18-09-2007, 22:27
It's one of the old Gorkamorka mutie steeds I think, long oop so I don't blame you for not recognising it ;)

19-09-2007, 02:04
something else, what are you going to do about the saddle blanket on the steeds back? maybe make some type of saddle bad on it got hear, maybe one can have a radio antanne sticking out of a side bag, one might have a ammo belt hanging out and so on.

19-09-2007, 11:45
The horsey model is indeed a gorkamorka mutie mount, over the past few years I've slowly aquired 16 or so for this purpose.

Orcdom - for now I'm inclined to leave the blankets just as they are (alone). 3 reasons really

1 (most importantly) don't feel like being bothered adding more to these guys

2 The blanket gives me a nice big space to show their 'colors'

3 I've got one finished, 15 to go. Its going to take me long enough to finish these guys as is without adding more to them.

20-09-2007, 11:08
doing thier "colors" is a good idea as well, hope to see some pics soon.

10-11-2007, 16:36
Finally time for an update!

I'm slowly plodding along - mostly slowed by work and my own laziness.

I worked a bit this morning, and finally finished the first unit of power armored troops:

Regular troops:

And the Banner/Icon bearer plus an additional trooper:

10-11-2007, 16:37
I also took a detail shot of the fur - that was slow tedious stuff, but I think I figured it out well enough to suit my needs (and patience):

10-11-2007, 17:00
this stuff is brilliant, the beastlord with the chainsaw great weapon, the centigor, the ungor with binoculars-all cool ideas,

its awesome when people use beast of chaos parts in 40K

10-11-2007, 18:06
awesome army, really like the Gors with heavy weapons.

10-11-2007, 18:33
Beautiful, beautiful work :)

10-11-2007, 18:57
Top notch stuff, as always.

But we want to see some painted (weel, me at least :p)

11-11-2007, 00:09
I love this blog. I generally don't like slaanesh, but I love the beast man conversions.

11-11-2007, 08:50
All your conversions are incredible, Ive to used beastmen to make mutants and yours are, Ive said it before and Ill say it again, Incredible.

11-11-2007, 12:21
Thanks for the feedback guys, I really appreciate it!

I'm trying to get everything built at this point before painting - at this point I'm fairly close for the 'master list'. I like to get the majority of an army built before I go heavily into 'paint mode' so I keep the colors more consistent through each unit.

Before I paint again I need to do build:

another squad of power armor guys
Finish the Centigors
1 squad of jump troopers (Count as Seraphim)
6 additional mutants (to 'count as' eviscerator Fanatics)
A leader with jump pack (count as Cannoness)
2 missle tanks (count as Exorcists)
Finish the Demon Prince (Count as Inq. Karamazov)

I'll probably also finish the big mutants and Slaanesh Furies as well - I did them for the LatD list before GW killed it...

I have 2 versions kicking around to count as the Inq. - I'm going to do the straight forward one for now, and come back to the more complicated one later (after painting the base army) as I'm not entirely sure how to proceed with him.

I'll post a pic of the current DP soon (different from the winged guy in this thread) - I'll need opinions on which direction to go with his 'gun' arm.

I could also use opinions on the following - I'm using 'count as' witchhunter rules - therefore the Mutants 'count as' fanatics.

Should I do the eviscerator armed mutants as:

1) Power Fisted Beastmen
2) Beastmen with Big 2 handed Chain Weapons
3) Beastmen mutated with daemonic talons

I'm really quite undecided on these guys...

11-11-2007, 13:32
I'd say no 2, and preferably large chain axes, as that just seems to fit the beastmen theme. Although talons are more slaaneshy... hmm... I'd still say 2.

13-11-2007, 03:45
I'll be working on the large chainaxes this week, we'll see how it comes out.

In the mean time I revamped a figure to be my Daemon Prince (counts as Inquisitor Karamazov - if you're not familiar with him he's a Monstrous Creature with stats somewhat comparable to a DP on foot, armed with a Multi-Melta and a Master Crafted Power Weapon)

For now I'll be sticking to the Beast Theme - I guess he's kind of a 40k Minotaur Lord...

Anyway Pics...

The white styrene tube meets the cable from his power claw, hard to see in the pics...

The flat shoulderguard and the flat area on his Tabbard will both bear a Slaaneshi Icon.

I was toying with the idea of flattening the entire tabbard and adding a Slaanesh Icon from the vehicle sprue but am thinking not at this point. Also thought about possibly adding a bionic eye of sorts, but will probably leave that alone as well, I think he looks enough like a bad **** without it...

13-11-2007, 04:47

Thats freaking AWESOME! BTW, when will you start painting? When your finished building everyone or before that? And sorry if its been asked ad answered before.

13-11-2007, 07:36
love that prince. now paint him bright pink :P

13-11-2007, 16:36
lovely work as always keep it up

14-11-2007, 23:46
Thanks for the praise folks - the feedback's appreciated (I need the motivation big time, lazy sot that I am!)

Karskin - At this point I'm trying to get it all built then paint, its just the way I've always done my armies..creature of habit I guess.

I've decided to go with the big chainaxes as Arhalien suggested, I tried to do a big chainsaw as well but just didn't look right, I'll post some pics soon.

I did have an idea on the DP however...I got to thinking that being that Karamazov has the uncompromising rule (units within 12" reroll morale & pinning checks) - maybe a set of shoulder mounted speakers would fit? Kind of a shoulder mounted dirge caster of sorts I guess. Or do you think the big guys prescence would be enough to bolster their morale??

15-11-2007, 02:08
Quite awesome, good sir.

15-11-2007, 03:08
For the Excorsits (or how ever its spelt). Have you thought about some kind of basilisc style vehicle.
Maybe have the flat tray of the basc then add ina missile battry, but make it sort of look like the old style repeater gun or multiple bolt thrower? i think it could fit with your theme

And i love these conversions and the idea of using Witch hunters.
Instead of Faith points you get Rapture points :p

Mr Feral
16-11-2007, 21:20
This army is looking sweet.
I can't wait until you get those painted.
Nice work.

16-11-2007, 21:28
I think the DP is big enough and can probably shout loud/far enough to not need speakers for the uncomprimising rule thingy.

17-11-2007, 17:31
This is all very very good! Love it!

Your beastemen modifications are great. And that centigor rocks.

The new DP is better than the last. He is also more in tune with your beast-theme. And I love the immense power he radiates. Perfect for Karamazov. But he should be on a larger base size right?

09-03-2008, 15:39
FINALLY getting motivated again! (MAYBE the upcoming daemonic legion codex has a bit to do with that...)

I had a really tough time getting myself motivated to do the eviscerator mutants. The other nght I was looking at my mountain of unfinishedness and thought it was time to finish this madness.

Sooo, here are the eviscerator beasts for the 2 'redemptionist' squads

I'm happy with how these guys turned out. Hopefully another update sooner than later...

09-03-2008, 15:44
Wow, I really like these gors, lots of character in them!

09-03-2008, 23:42
Can I marry your conversion and painting skills? PLEASE! LET ME!!!

This is so sickly good, I, I cant describe. This is the most incredible conversion work I've ever seen! I need to sit down for a minutte. no, I'm sitting already. Lie down, I have to lie down for a minutte. this is jsut too great, it's too much...

10-03-2008, 17:55
Holy **** this army is cool! Awesome work!

Captin Korea!
23-03-2008, 16:08
Very nicely painted and converted beast men! This is ace stuff you got here.

23-03-2008, 19:51
Very impressive, lots of original ideas being expertly executed here.

06-04-2008, 22:08
Update Time!!!

After yet another lengthy hiatus I'm back (getting better - less than a month from the last update!)

I've got to thank Shenlung on Bartertown & Soulfly on Warseer - they came through with some much needed bits to finish this unit.

I had originally planned these guys for Big Mutants - now they don't really fit in well if I use the 'count as' witchhunters list. So...my big master (long term) plan is now to do about 6000 pts of Slaanesh based minis, roughlt 2000 pts each of LatD (count as WH), CSM (EC of course), and the upcoming Codex Daemons.

These guys will now 'count as' Bloodcrushers in the daemon side of the army.

So, hope you like!

fantastic! great conversion work!

Really liked nr3:p

10-04-2008, 12:36
thanks - I'll probably add some extra bits before they hit the painting table, but not now.

I should hopefully have another unit done by the end of the weekend, so I'll have more pics then...

Mr Feral
10-04-2008, 13:20
Nice Minotaurs! I like the curved chainsword on the last one, and the conversion work on all of them are amazing!

Looking forward to more!

10-04-2008, 13:41
Very nice, loves those minotaurs, especially the one with the standard :)

11-04-2008, 19:49
you don't make friends by being that good, you know what you make? ENEMIES!

wow, I sware this is the best army intergration I have ever seen, welldone! :)

12-04-2008, 01:05
A question: What is the lance from on the "Rough Centigor"?

12-04-2008, 04:31
The minotaurs are sweet! :) Can't wait to see some of them painted.

12-04-2008, 09:38
Some great ideas here, I can't wait to see more of them painted.

12-04-2008, 18:06
Any chance of a group shot?

Great work by the way.

13-04-2008, 12:17
Wicked !!!! i love the ideas and someone has finally got minotours into 40k !!

Mr Feral
13-04-2008, 12:21
This mention of another unit sounds promising. I need more ideas to "borrow".

13-04-2008, 22:00
this army is spectacular, want to see more painted;)

13-04-2008, 22:59
Wow, those conversions are really cool indeed. Keep it up!

21-04-2008, 01:40
Thanks again for the C&C guys, with real life (aka job, wife, etc...)I need all the help staying motivated I can get!

QUOTE=Lyinar;2516700]A question: What is the lance from on the "Rough Centigor"?[/QUOTE]

The lances are the banner poles from the old chaos warriors.

Any chance of a group shot?

Great work by the way.

I'll do a group shot once I almost finish the LatD side, so basically one more squad of bolter armed guys, a jumppack leader, a squad of jumppack troopers, a squad of heavy bolter armed guys, and a couple of 'count as' priests...

This mention of another unit sounds promising. I need more ideas to "borrow".

Heh, I've got a few more ideas up my sleeve...

21-04-2008, 01:45
So, another unit I started long ago I've finally finished!

Ever since the previous edition of CSM Codex came out I liked the idea of Chaos Furies, but REALLY hated the models.

So, I had the idea of making some furies that tied in more to my 'Slaaneshi' theme. I finally tracked down the last few models to finish the unit this weekend (more or less - they need a bit of GS work where the wings meet the bodies but for the most part are done).

They of course come in a unit of 12 (Sacred numbers, yay!)

Slaaneshi Furies:

26-04-2008, 23:49
Lil' Update...

I got a couple of Spawn in a trade with Merdain1504 on bartertown, so decided to go ahead and build them, they somewhat fit in and I'll be able to eventually use them once I branch into the CSM side of the army.

The new Chaos Spawn are really a great kit - lots of bits to play around with. Left me with a ton of spares for future conversions too. Eventually I'll add more of them, maybe do a tide of spawn Apoc sheet...

Anyway, here are the pics...

Next will likely be 'count as' priests...

11-05-2008, 12:10
Finally finished the count as 'priests'.

I wanted these guys to stand out from the regular eviscerator guys, so this is what I came up with. Not 100% on the size of the axes, but they are staying the way the are now...

I did 3, one to accompany each of my 3 beast herd mobs (zealots)

Hope you like!

Great minis. It gets hard to wait for progress in this log. Would you mind going over the bits that you used for the chains axes? Keep it up. This log is great!

13-05-2008, 16:27
Great to see more progress on this project. (I've been lurking for months, I confess!)
At one time you mentioned the tantalizing possibility of working up 'a chaos Throne of Injustice.' Always wanted to see where you'd go with that idea. Any chance you'll pursue it?

13-05-2008, 23:10
great work mate! were it not for the slaaneshness of 'em i'd say they were fantastic!

*dislikes slaanesh. Likes this thread. Has headache from the conflict. goes and sits down*

13-05-2008, 23:42
Your Slaaneshi furies are very nice, I can't wait to see them painted.

14-05-2008, 12:44
Thanks for the replies folks!

@ Seer Drakon: The chain axes were fairly straight forward - the first is on a chaos warrior banner pole arm, the head is an ork warbiker Nob choppa with a regular ork boy 'chain choppa'. The seem is covererd with card on either side. The 2 other axes are 2 chaos warrior arms & axe handles for the pole, an ork boyz nob choppa and and an old school plastic SM xhainsword blade, and a small strip of plasticard on either side of the seam.

@ Tinfoil - I still like the idea of the throne of injustice - but for now its on the back burner. I decided to use hte large minotaur lord conversion as a count as Throne as the stats match up to a Daemon Prince fairly well. Maybe a project for once I get the bulk done, who knows...I do however have something else up my sleeve as a centerpiece...

20-05-2008, 01:57
this is really cool, all i can ask for is

and preferably some painted models lol

but yeah, i almost decided to well, "rip off" this idea lol, but make it in the name of the better god, KHORNE

but i decided on a sisters army instead lol cheaper i guess

but yeah, im following this with great intrest

20-05-2008, 10:37
The only thing I'd say is wrong with them is their arms look like they can't move very far, but is this mainy an issue with the chaos armour?

the furries are really cool, where are their wings from?

31-08-2008, 15:56
Resurected again!!

This time thanks to the tale of 40K Painters thread - figured I needed some motivation to get these guys painted. That thread looks to be helping me...finally got motivated to slap some paint on some minis...hopefully this will inspire me to finish a project I started years ago!

Questions from ages ago:

Eyeolas: The limitation on the arms is from the chaos warriors/the wings are from one of the older vampite bats (fellbats maybe?) I bought like 20 of them or so back when GW used to have the bits boards at gamesday (which they should still have...)

Anyway on to the minis.

So...I've finished my 6 daemonettes who will 'count as' Death Cult assassins, so 240 pts (2 were previously done, finished the other 4).

The 2 who were finished before:

and the 4 new ones:

The white on the eye on the daemonette to the right of the last picture is just flash shining off ink - they haven't been dullcoated yet.

I had some issues matching the colors from the old to the new painted daemonettes - if you look close you can see the older ones have more of a purple hue than the newer ones. Close enough s oits not a big deal, however I'm going to take a slight detour...

My long term plan was to do a massive army of 3 parts - 1 LatD, 1 Slaanesh Marines, and 1 Slaanesh Daemons. I think I'm going to detour and do all the 'female' daemons while I have this color scheme worked out. So that means 3 units of daemonettes, 2 units of seekers, and a few other surprises will likely be next before returning to the beasts...

31-08-2008, 16:15
Not a single model has failed to impress me! The minutes I gandered through your pictures were well spent!!

The Minotaurs in particular (especially the one with the big gun) look totally sweet, and I haven't seen it done before. As for the rest, I haven't seen that executed as well as you have yet, so lots of praises to you!

31-08-2008, 16:58
wow, thats some of the best Latd i've seen! and i don't even like slaanesh. very good work, i'll be watching for more!

06-09-2008, 12:35
Thanks for the comments, glad you like!

I'm working on a daemonette squad now...here is the first model, more or less done:

Only decision left is pupils or not? I can't decide. Though I gave the other figs pupils. I kind of like the blank no pupil look. I'm even thinking of changing the eyes on the other style daemonettes to no pupils. Your thoughts?

BTW I'll be doing three units of these. I fist had painted this one with blue hair, pink loincloth but decided that was way too much color, so decided to match the loincloth to the hair. That being said I'll be doing one squad with the blue, one squad with pink, and one squad with either purple or green.

06-09-2008, 20:47
Give her pupils. Looking good.

06-09-2008, 22:45
You've really set the bar for conversion work, fantastic !

Lord Dan
07-09-2008, 03:22
I can't think of a scarier image than your minotaurs with chainsaws.

Great work.

16-09-2008, 18:04
Update time...

I'm 1/3 of the way through my first unit of daemonettes, going to do three squads of 12 each.

I've decided to mark units for the entire army by sash colors. These units will be marked by lt. blue, pink, and probably neon green (rather than purple - something a bit different).

So here are the first 4, including a champ and standad bearer for this unit.

Regular daemonette:

and the first 4 together:

BTW I also decided to keep the eyes without pupils (for now)...I figure I can change them if I decide down the road...

Awesome conversions and great painting! I love how you use the Witch Hunters Codex as a basis. This'll be just plain cool!

LOVE those daemonettes

the lack of pupils in the eyes makes them look completely souless...

More daemonettes:

Never got a pic on these either:

And I also got an HQ finished - a daemon princess. Shes a Werner Klocke Succubus mini (Freebooter Miniatures). Great model. Been collecting dust waiting for paint for years. OF course the downside is I can't use her at GW sanctioned stuff. So be it - I love the model.

And two group 'so far' pics, one from the front, one from the top:

I just finished going through the whole log: you've got some really nice conversions there! Particularly the centigors, but I also like the overall look of your chain weapons.
Painting-wise I must say I don't fancy the heavy blacklining that much, but the skin on the daemonettes are great - pale and smooth!
The daemon princess fits the daemonettes well -but maybe she needs a thid arm, ending in a pincher/claw?

Also - how will you paint the bases?

keep it up!

Thanksgiving update...

Finished painted my first 6 War Maidens of Slaanesh (these gals count As bloodletters). I'll be doing a unit of 12 so I've got 6 to go. The pics are a bit light - in real life the minis are a tad darker, and the highlights easier to see.

I really liked the look of the sisters repentia minis and felt they fit well in a Slaanesh army. The conversion worrk is pretty simple, just replaced the eviscerators with chaos warrior swords, and on the 4 leaping ones filed off the cross pendant on the arms and replaced with a green stuff disk with a mark of Slaanesh (like the disks on the beastmen earlier in the log).

They are standing on sprues because they are pretty short - when I base them they will be standing on a pile of snow. They needed to be 'heightened' in order to give the illusion they are similiar height to the rest of the army - the daemonettes are about a head taller.

Hope you enjoy :)

Those sisters are looking great. :)

28-11-2008, 13:48
ahahamazing! I cant belive it! how the downstairs do you do it!?

03-12-2008, 13:54
Nice idea for bloodletters -- they fit the theme and aesthetic of the army well, but also convey a distinctly bloodthirsty bloodletterness.
The pink on the cloth looks a bit washed out -- could well be the pics, but if not, perhaps a wash or two?

04-12-2008, 14:41
Love the 'letters. Alot.

05-12-2008, 17:35
Thanks folks.

@ Tinfoil - its the pics. you can tell but in the crevices is straight out of the bottle pink, then 3 layers of highlight. ITs a bit darker and more defined than shows.

Too bad its not an update for this army :cries:

I've been sidetracked for a bit, trying ot finish an X-Mas gift for my nephew who plays High Elves.

So his dad and I decided he could use a nice shiny Eltharion model...I decided the old one wouldn't do, he needed to be updated.

Here he is, hope you like:

A few more shots:

Now that Santas workshop is done hopefully I can get some of my stuff done before months end...

20-12-2008, 01:29
I love you.

Only for your modeling hands.

20-12-2008, 01:55
Now this is really cool. The griffon you used is the best griffon GW has ever made in my opinion. The paint job makes it look super awsome.

20-12-2008, 10:40
Your daemonettes are amazing. The colors blend perfectly. I wonder how you do it. Do you use washes?

08-01-2009, 15:28

More or less finished another Daemon Princess - have to finish the sword blade & bring the bone highlights up to white but thats it. I love these Werner Klocke chicks...

@ Edahlo - don't really use washes, mostly just build from my base color a couple of layers, adding more white to each highlight.

09-01-2009, 00:37
i want that model to do as valkia for my warhammer chaos army! shes perfect if you throw a shield on her!

10-01-2009, 03:25
This thread makes me want to find a way to use all the models I bought for my now defunct Word Bearers (Corrupted Sisters) army.

06-12-2009, 23:22
wow, amazing paint job on the demonettes. fantastic color blending and i really like the subtle high lighting.

jsut a side question: how do you guys paint eyes? i can get the whites painted in, but
a) what size brush do u use for the black pupil? the smallest i have is a 10/0
b) my visual acuity kinda sucks, so seeing things that tiny up close is kind of impossible for me

07-12-2009, 22:29
Thanks for the comps folks - haven't worked on the daemons for quite some time...one of these days I'll curb my laziness. Right now I'm working on my Astral Claws (link in my sig below).

@jmaximum - I do eye one of 2 ways...either with a Windsor & Newton series 7 000 miniature brush...or if I'm not feeling 'painty' a size 005 micron pen to dot the pupil. More often than not I go for the micron pen, easier. You should be able ot get them in an art supply store (Pearl Paint in the US is where I got mine)

07-12-2009, 22:46
oh holy duh on me!
i have a frikkin 005 pen, i use to line the recesses where the armor plates meet. i never dreamed of using it on eyes. wow.

09-12-2009, 16:48

I haven't gone "WOW!" in a long time when seeing a model, but this one made me say it loud, for real.

Speechless. Your finished daemons look great as well, and obviously I'm subscribed! Wonderful log.
