I'm currently looking at buying a wyvern for use in SoM games (i already have the old metal one, but want another) and of course the two that spring to mind are the warboss on wyvern and Azhag, both of which are now finecast.

What I'd like to know is if either or both have the saddles moulded to the body of the wyvern itself, thereby requiring some cutting and swearing to remove.
I assume the chains on the azhag model are separate so can be left off.

Or perhaps you can suggest another wyvern by another manufacturer that would fill this role.

Any help gladly received.

Azhag's wyvern has the saddle as a separate object. There's also the older shaman on wyvern, if you can get your hands on it, it's very nice, and the saddle is a separate element too. I can also suggest the Confrontation dragon (not the huge titan dragon, the other one), it's gorgeous (see my plog), and it has a stinger-like tail, and no arms, so it makes a great count as wyvern. Quite difficult to build, though.

People who play SoM, do you make the monsters you already own mount-removable (where possible) or do you just buy another set of monsters?

I've always converted my monsters so the rider could be removed, as it feels silly otherwise when the rider is killed but he is still there.

For ease of transport, all my characters are removable (and as my dragons multitask between different races, it helps with that as well).

I've just found the assembly guide for Azhag on the GW site and where azhag sits, there's a big flat space with a hole for Azhag to slot into and then chainmail hanging from that. So I think i'll pass on using that model.

Urgat, the old metal one with the shaman is the one i have. No saddle at all on that so looks fine :)
I could try and get hold of another of those on ebay but i wanted the second one to look different.

Oh, I meant the previous Azhag (http://images.ados.fr/divers/photo/7995285799/photo-warhammer/azhag-massacreur-1003743d89.gif) by the way, not the current one :p It looks quite similar to the shaman wyvern, but is bigger (the body looks exactly the same, but it turned out it wasn't). The rest you can tell from the pic, but in short: boring pose, generic dragon plastic wings, "not as cool" stinger, different head.
The shaman wyvern does have a saddle, I had to make a pin go from the shaman's... bottom, through the saddle, into the wyvern's back in order for them to be removable, because otherwise it's just tacked on and you'd have no choice but glue it.

the current wyvern warboss has the saddle as separate and threes no hole or anything

I shamelessly stole this idea for my wyvern:

Its not available on the GW site anymore, but you may still be able to find the solo metal carnosaur. Add some Balrog wings and your good to go.

That's a very nice conversion. I think I'll keep an eye out for the parts to do that myself.

You can also look at the Trollforged Wyvern (http://trollforged.com/shelf_fantasy_Orc.html). It's in resin and look nice, but I don't know how the saddle is done, looks to be seperate but not enought pics to see clearly.

AM I allowed to say I dislike it? I tried to picture it in full flight, and the vision I had, with the long legs hanging beneath and the little thing buzzing around like a bee to try and keep airborne with that enormous orc on top, was not sexy at all :p

That looks pretty awesome actually. I'm always fairly amazed with what people can turn the carnosaur into.

I considered using a Lord of the Rings Fellbeast as a Wyvern. The saddle may not be removable though.
