View Full Version : Forgeworld News from Salute

Ok got some new rumours and news from a FW chap at Salute.

1. PiranhaForgeworld will be producing add on kits... an example of which - railrifle armed variant - was on show, felt like plastic and was the same colour. He smiled when I asked him if they may be plastic.

Photos to follow

2. Steel LegionThe images shown are NOT the finished models.

a) They will be one piece bodies - head+torsoe+legs - if they achieve this 'expect higher quality.' and more other harder to cast pieces soon.

b) Lasguns. THE LASGUNS SHOWN ON PICS ARE CONVERSIONS AND MOCK UPS. They are not the finished article - the design of these has not really started yet.

c) The models with arms in the images are cadian arms with Greenstuff - Mark Harrison is starting work on the 'true' arms soon.

d) Steve Egan has spent 60 hours this week alone at home working on them (30 hours overtime :p) and keeps sending in more variants.

e) Standard bearer - very exciting piece, lunging forward - Iwo Jima style, forcing up a banner - he said despite the arms were not done yet it was already very exciting.

f) Ammo pouches are in the works - any seen on models are conversions.

g) Expect previews mid/late summer - autumn/winter release. Hopefully

Manta
a) Slowly coming along.

b) Hanger for tanks is done, as is ramp - the door at the rear will slide out, then inside - as if it is a revolving style door.

c) Hanger drops down.

d) Most of the exterior is ready, detail is taking some time.

e) From the hanger, a corridor leads onto a room with an ethreal, and 2 bodyguards. Then a larger corridor - on either sides are Tau at computer stations - working away. All this has been finished.

f) command area still WIP - 2 crewmen at the rear of the bridge, Commander at the front.

I think a lot of that is new, any questions - fire away as I'll probably remember more.

And there was NO mention of a plastic Baneblade.

"Krieg can be cast in one piece as they have LESS detail than Elysians. They are not as complex as Elysians." That is a slight paraphrase but I hope that gets the point across.

Also they are doing many different poses - so it is possible to make your squads very varied.

"Krieg can be cast in one piece as they have LESS detail than Elysians. They are not as complex as Elysians."

Yeah, but they look damn cool. And might just cost less (This is FW, not GW. Still expensive, yes. Couple of quid cheaper than the Elysians? Distinct possibility.) And are the bloody Death Korps. So they win. THey'll probably sell these by the bucket. Solid gold bucket, mind. They're still onto something with 'em.

I am so tempted by these models. I was checking out the Elysians for a rough guide as to how much it would cost for an army. I can't get away from the fact that I could have two armies for the price of this one. Guess I'll have to miss out and be very envious of those of you who do get it. They are nice eye candy though.

Any ideas on what upgrades the Piranha will have?

Pity about the Death Korps being single piece but they are going to rock so hard.

The Manta will be cool as well.

Nice post!

EDIT: Besides battlesuit weaponry

Sgt Whiskey Swiper
22-04-2006, 21:19
I would have asked more, but should have thought of more questions - he was a very nice chap and very pleasant to chat to.

I saw a Rail Rifle variant, not sure on others, but we shall see soon enough - most likely medium support weapons.

The pictures of the new Piranha in the roundup show pretty clearly that it can take a lot of different twin linked battlesuit weapons.. check it out.

I can't see it being plastic though.. I mean, why?

Inquisitor Lok is an outstanding model, the detail is magnificent.

It'll be a shame I think if the Korps are one-piece-bodied. Having a split at the waste would make for a lot more customisation potential, and I can't see how it could be a big problem to sculpt and cast, they have a belt don't they? Oh well, the models still look fantastic, and I will still most likely be buying some.

...I wish I could work for Forgeworld...

Awesome, awesome, awesome. Was there, saw it, and all I can say is that I'd rather pay an arm and a leg for FW stuff than for GW stuff. If the Death Korps are as high quality as their current stuff... then I'll happily prostitute myself for the money to buy 'em. Still, if they're autumn/winter that means I can get them for my birthday or Christmas :D

- Next ForgeWorld book confirmed as the epic scale standalone air combat game.

- IA: 5 will be siege.

- Heard the old chesnut about a vacuum formed Dwarf Airship again...

Can't remember much else .

Also, when I got back the latest WD UK had arrived. The various Vostroyan packs will go on advance order on 29/4, release 10/6. There are previews of the buildings (which should all be on advance order by now), including the battlemat, plus an article on the Vostroyans.

50/50 on the new pirahna.. guns stick out too far forward for me. but looks convertable to have them mounted midway on the guns instead, so no major biggie.

and looks like the designers have bene playin a bit of HALO recently. looks like a banshee (the profile of it fits more, in the underside shot). it only now resembles one, the normal one doesn't have enough shape/bulk in the rear for it, imo.

23-04-2006, 02:53
well... i guess the command squad ain't up front...

the pirahna looks good... but the rail gun is just stick out too much... thus making it look very heavy in the front...

death korp... finally... though it's not GW that's gonna come up with trench coat wearing IGs... but i'll still get a couple of them to paint up... way too cool to pass...

any idea if they will forge-world a lord of change?

Except that all the Mk IV's look sooo front heavy it's a wonder they can stand up. At least the metal one doesn't have a sargophagus extending 4' from the front armour plates of the thing...

I don't get why these poses have been getting negative posts. The GW IG Commander looks more like he's stood on parade. At least this guy is realistic - on the vox screaming for fire support/reinforcements etc. Even on a battlefield these guy's would be in the rear so the 'on guard' and not 'running off' pose of the 2 troops is right IMHO. What would they be doing - running off and leaving their commander and the bloke on the scanner? :wtf:

In UK WD 308 (I think) there were Cadian High Command unit rules. This guy and some of Lox's retinue would be ideal. :)

But what is the phone handset joined to the vox pack with? String? Surely going to have to base them together.

Means less poses.

Not so few as entire one piece metals though, as these guys will have seperate arms. Still, its a shame they couldn't work out a way of having the heads seperate.. perhaps by having the respirator pipe attached to the head rather than the body, but lying flush with the body when the head is attached.

Yes on the former, will post in a sec. Only pics are of the stuff in the list - so there's a pic of the servitor, but you'd get a better pic from someone at the show - they were on sale I think. FW's stands are always so undermanned that unless there's a convention exclusive I don't buy from them there as it's too painful.

Was anything else said/asked about the Reaver Titan being the next very large model (after the Manta)?

It must be for the IA5 siege book but looking how long the Manta has taken, I wonder if it will be out with the book or well after (again, like the Manta - 1 year after IA3).

Thing about the Elysians was that they had the bits for MOST of the codex IG squad options, with the rest organized into either support or command squads. Wasn't that bad, to be honest.

On the Command squad: I think people are used to the "heroic" look that Space Marines and normal GW officers have. I mean, look at the blisters of Cadian officers. Find one that isn't screaming, I dare you!

- Autosavant Wassily (Sage)
- Astropath Zarneck (Mystic)
- Servo Skull (Familiar)
- Major Durra (Veteran Senior Officer of the Elysian Drop Troops detachment D-99)

Underpricing, there, Corporal. :p
I'm sure you meant "£500,000 per squad."

yeap, for the same price as a FW krieg army we should be able to hire and kit out a *real* army of Cambodian Maoist rebels.

Sadly, theres no Codex: Maoist Rebels so Death Korps it is then :P

so thats not as many as i though it would be

Yes, I'm thinking that the Death Korps may feature prominently in IA5, the "siege" book, with all sorts of additional goodies.

In 1,500 I got a Penal Legion, listed on Dysartes. Quite a few troopers actually, but I left out the heavy weapons until the HW platoon. Saves money, y'see.
