View Full Version : Terrorgheist Base Source?

I was working on my new VC today and noticed that the Black Coach will not fit on a normal chariot base ( yes, I did think about cutting the bar down, but quickly realized that was a no go, as it still wouldn't have been short enough to work. I also hate the look of the Coach with those two sad little cav bases in the front.) So I opted for the next best solution - I popped open the Terrorgheist kit I had also bought and used that base, which fits the Black Coach perfectly.

Now I have a new problem. I need a base for the Terrorgheist! I checked GW's site and they do not sell the Terrorgheist base by itself (which makes zero sense to me why they don't), and I couldn't find one on ebay (which also seems strange, as you'd think someone would sell the base as a bit by itself, seeing as how many kits use it now.)

So I need to find a source that sells that base. I've exhausted the resources that I know of, Does anyone know of a source that sells the Terrorgheist base by itself?

This is the base for the screaming skull kit. If its not too late, put the coach on this and the terrogheist where it should be

That base is too small for the coach, as it's only 10mm wider than a chariot base, and the problem with the coach is the lenght. The coach basically need a 150x50mm base, and the OP is using a 150x100mm base.

To the OP, considering GW are selling a single chariot base for about 5$, you should buy some modular movement tray instead to create the base you need out of that kit, plus you'll have leftover for other project after that.

You can make your own bases from gw plastik sprues and old dvd's or hard cardboard. Cut the plastik sprues in the lenght you need, glue them with plastic glue, cut the dvd or the hard cardboard. Here is one base made in this way: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX_kUUI_Ms4 and here is the hard cardboard I have used for some other bases instead of old dvd's: http://www.real-onlineshop.de/medias/sys_master/products/000_099/000/002/0026352_001_001_xtralarge_1.jpg :P

Cheap, easy to make and if made well it will look good.

Buy a GW movement tray and cut it to 100x150mm? That's what I did with my toad dragon just yesterday.

I second this.

If you look at this (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/109/squiglobba.jpg/) link and this (http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/842/squiglobba.jpg/) one, you can see how good a base can be constructed from movement trays. (And my beloved squig-lobba... :P )

I was afraid that would be the answer I was going to get.

Why doesn't anyone sell the Terrorgheist base? Seems it would be prudent to do so, especially considering all the bitz sellers running around. I do have to wonder what they are doing with all the bases from the box when they open them and bitz out the parts.

Buy some bass or balsa wood at a hobby or craft store, trace the base onto it and cut to size.

well, I guess they don't because the terrogheist base isn't really a 'standard size' that several monsters etc. use, but GW just chose specifically for the terrorgheist (GW is exceptionally inconsistent with monster basesizes).

Except the Arachnarok and Stone Horn/Thundertusk also use it, and the Tamurkhan K'daii Destroyer is also supposed to use it.

* whispers * damnit Zarkov, don't undermine me!

They're still not particularly consistent with bases though. They just build a model and then take whatever base it neatly fits on. As the monsters keep getting bigger, they move to the bigger base (Arachnerok size base), but monsters that are simply smaller use smaller or thinner bases, like the DE dragon and sphinxes.

Whereas the Toad Dragon definitively doesn't fit on one...

Thank you for the link, it will be greatly helpful in the future. Unfortunately I wish it were more helpful now, as he doesn't have any bases in stock. Figures!!

Dragonforge has blank resin bases. It says 5 mm high, the GW ones are 3mm.

LOL I had looked at those, but I decided against them, because of the 2mm difference in the base height. (yeah, I know I'm being somewhat picky...)

Mine fits just fine on a chariot base. But you wil have to put the horse leg to the front edge and the last wheel will be against the back edge.

I totally agree with the desire to have correct GW bases for models instead of making them yourself... I'm a bit OCD like that too. Home-made bases just don't look exactly right, dammit.

But how do you deal with FW models that don't come with a base? I had to base the toad dragon on something like 120x150 mm, the GUO for 40k has a base which is probably 120 mm in diameter and the KoS just about fits on one of those 60mms.

LOL That's why I don't own a Toad Dragon.

The FW GUO will fit on a chariot base for Fantasy if you turn him sideways, and the KoS will fit on one longways. Both should fit a Valkyrie base by my guess for 40K.

LOL I tend to be really OCD about how I build things. I've been known to buy Chaos Knights before just to get two particular lances {the one that looks like a Halberd and the one that looks like a reverse glaive} from the box ( I did it for a full 35 man unit of Halberd wielding Nurgle warriors, simply because I didn't like how the metal halberd upgrade kit looked like. I had to do it that way simply because I couldn't find enough bitz sellers that had those two lances for sale.)
