View Full Version : Any ideas on how to make an Imperial Guard buggy or Jeep?

I saw this picture awhile ago, of a jeep or some kind of buggy that someone had made for his Genestealer Cult army. It looked very awesome. I could tell from the picture it was made with the body of a land speeder using bike wheels. I've been trying to make my Guardsmen more, motorized. Hell, I've even converted Scout bikers into rough-riders. So can anybody give me any tips or ideas on how to make this thing? Or link me to a site that has instructions on such a thing? Thank you.

A Google Image search for 'landspeeder buggy' will bring up a number of useful results.

If you have the cash, I believe forgeworld make exactly that

This website has a pretty cool buggy made from a land speeder storm.

You might want to look at a robogear hunter.
I have a ton of this stuff, its of variable quality and the scale is sometimes way off 40k.

I don't have 1 of these, but if the others are reliable to go by, the guns and pilots will be waaaay too big, the vehicle will be reasonable.

This guy (in the russian federation) is the only source I know of.
I have no-idea if he is reliable, but he posts this stuff regularly on e-bay.
Postage looks expensive, but maybe you could arrange a single box deal.

Hmm, I'll check that out, I've got enough Heavy Bolters and that sort of thing to put on it if the gun is way to big. So thanks for that. And Cernz, those are some good pictures, they give me a good idea of what I'll have to do.

This thread has some really awsome examples of trucks and utility vehicles for guard.

The Ork Warbuggy makes a good Jeep type vehicle with a little plastic card and some IG bits and bobs. In fact you could probably get away without the plastic card if you don't mind a bit of sanding to remove the Orky stuff.

I might actually give that a try

The War Buggy? Really? That is an ugly model even for an Ork vehicle. It's on the list of models Ork players want replaced, along with War Trakks and MegaNobz

Nah, the warbuggy isn't that bad. Just kind of small and simple (wheels, chassis, engine, gun). Actually since it doesn't have the modern orky "jumbled bits of metal nailed on" aesthetic, that just makes it easier to convert to something more guard-appropriate.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Elysian_Drop_Troops/ELYSIAN-TAUROS-VENATOR.html...and even if you don't want the model, you could use its rules with your conversion. It is in IA8, IIRC (and probably IAA 2nd Edition).

There is also the Tauros (http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/Warhammer-40000/Imperial_Guard/Elysian_Drop_Troops/ELYSIAN_TAUROS_ASSAULT_VEHICLE.html), which is a smaller version (rules in the same places).

Yeah i'd recommend the Tauros too, despite expensiveness. It looks really good, doesn't require conversion is fully supported with rules and comes in two variations not counting the weapon options.

Dude I'm converting it. I'm basically only using it as a base body and then I'll give it a complete new look. Keep your panties on.

I did order a couple of those Robogear Hunters. I'll do a small review when they arrive.

I would think that you would find suitable 1:35 jeeps and staff cars from military model companies, though. A Humvee kit is almost truck size, but it could be modded into a smaller car, perhaps? Another choice would be WW2-period german Kubelwagen - it has boxy, square aestethic that would be pretty close to 40k style.

Actually, german Sd.kfz. 223 would be pretty much perfect for an armored staff car.

Yeah I promised those Robogear Hunters, I got them recently, so there's now a small review in my blog. They seem like they could fit Ork and IG armies pretty well.
