So he can lead my Nurgle CSM army as a sorcerer...

Honestly, I don't think anyone would mind him being on the table even without one (not to mention I think it'd clash with his style a little)

I'm with J. Chaos armor is all magic and he's a sorceror. It doesn't have to be power armor. The CSM don't even use real power armor anyhow, it's mutated by the warp into chaos armor.

You don't think it would clash aesthetically? Where is a link to the fluff that chaos doesn't use their armor or backpack? That's kinda interesting.

Most Chaos Marines do just use plain old power armour. You've got to be a special chaos tainted snow flake to get Chaos Armour. It fulfils the same function in the army that Artificer armour does for Marines of the loyalist flavour. Except they removed the option in the current dex. For some unknown and illogical reason.

To the OP. Go for it man. It's your collection. It'll still go on the same base size so any player having a problem is probably a douche anyway.

To go against the grain, I think he would look awesome with a backpack. I have done similar in the past. Great choice of model!

if you do add a pack go for a FW mk one as a GW plastic would not look good IMO

Adding a backpack to a model wearing a non-detachable cloak? Forget it...

Cloak is underneath the backpack, just like every other Chaos Space Marine wearing a cloak out there...?

Have you not seen any of the space wolf conversions using fantasy chaos warriors?

I was going to use a set of models similar to this for my Sorcerers, but their lack of bulk made be decide against it. No backpack can make a model look like he's wearing power armor when he's not.

I would love to see this model next to a standard chaos marine so I can compare.

He looks less beefy than a Chaos Marine, so I'd suggest trying to find an old 1st or 2nd edition Chaos Space Marine backpack. Good luck with that, though . :) The Chaos Space Marine Chirurgeon Backpack (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat440336a&prodId=prod1860240) set might work - use the one on the left and cut the arms off the top.

Just a single thought apart from beng tzeentchian (and all clean) his armour is very ornate and not very... stinky?

Except that he follows around Tamurkhan the Maggot Lord. Why would he be Tzeentchian?

This model could easily work with a little converting.

I kinda want one for my DG too now. With the way old CSM backpack that has a more organic look he would look killer. I'm just not sure on his size, anyone has a pic of him next to a marine?

Probably wouldn't be bad to use a possessed back pack. you can have bones and spikes showing through.

Wasn't the original fluff for the Dolgan's in the 6th edition WoC book? Their fluff clearly made them out to be worshipers of tzeentch. The biggest example would be the ascension of their warchief, who passed into the color changing flames on their big sacrificial night.

I still think cloaks under backpacks look silly...

As much as I hate space wolves, and any SM chapter, you cannot tell me in good faith that those space wolves I linked are silly.

They are not bad, but they would have been better with proper cloaks and no backpacks I think.I think we have largely become so accustomed to seeing marines with backpacks that it works but I think you could probably make them look better if you just sculpted some decent looking back pieces and forgot about the backpack entirely.

I don't understand how making your own models with backpacks over a cloak is any different to this: http://www.coolminiornot.com/171665?browseid=738459 an official gw model. They have been doing it for years and looks awesome! If you assume the power pack is beneath the cloak you end up with a bunch of hunchback-looking marines.

At the end of the day though its totally down to preference, and if OP wants to do it I say go ahead. I've done similar in the past.

Draconis

Well, it's not only that, but the backpack is a classic for marines. Plus fluff wise, is their power source for their armor. kinda hard to move around without it. Otherwise they just look like football players :)

I have converted some SOBs into snipers and put cloaks over the backpacks, (Made from greenstuff.) and I have to admit that even they do look hunchbacked even though the backpacks are quite small compared to marine ones. I even tried leaving part of the backpack exposed and the cloak pushed aside to make it clear there was something under there, but from certain angles they just look deformed no matter what you do.

That daemon thing might work as a greater daemon if it's big enough.

ashc

It's the size of a hunchbacked spawn by the looks of it.

I'd prefer the model with something "techie" so an unusual backpack (like Ahrimans's, maybe?) would look great!
