I've heard Vermin Brown, but I have no official answer.

What color are your bases painted? :D

It depends on the army, as I like to put material on the base, rather than simply painting them.
For instance, Minas Tirith soldiers are more likely to have grey stone under their feet whereas my Rohirim will have more of a brown earth with peices of scrub (gold static grass).
The edges of the bases would be painted to match (grey, brown, black, etc.).

All mine are textured with sand/rocks and then painted Scorched Brown and dry-brushed Bestial Brown and Bleached Bone. I then add a few clumps of static grass and paint the edges Bestial Brown.

Right, but I mean just the standard figs like the Moria Goblins and such, there's a brown to their bases I just can't figure out.

Its Graveyard Earth on the rims. I read it somewhere on GW blog, it's how I paint mine (plasticorc.tumblr.com), and it looks the same as the catalog.

I use tints of graveyard earth over a base of art acrylics which are very close to Scorched Brown.

I like Charadon Granite on the rim, and drybrushed with Graveyard Earth - it looks equally at home on brown or grey boards.
