View Full Version : Building an army for Papa Nurgle - Fantasy Style!

Well,

Nurgle seems to be the biggest trend on the painting/modeling scene so I thought Id throw my lot in....But me being me decided Id do it a little different and create....

A FANTASY Chaos Mortal Nurgle Horde!

I know Nurgle is getting everywhere right now - but although Ive seen ALOT of Deathguard, Mordheim and Deamon Projects, it just seemed to me the WHFB Mortal Armies of the Grandaddy of Chaos himself have been forgotten about...

So without further ado...

Unit of Warriors of Nurgle with Great weapons:

Back Rank:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1885.jpg

Front Rank:
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1886.jpg
Little bit of conversions on the above unit with the simple GS work being the 'weeping head on the pustule' so to speak...

Overall I am happy with the FEEL of this unit. When I paint it the GS work will become putrid flesh blended with the rusted metal armour - chaos armour is suposed to be fused with the occupant and almost 'alive' afterall...

WIP Chosen Warrior of Nurgle...
http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1887.jpg
Since theres alot of sculpting work going into them Im going to magnetise the left arm in order to be able to run these guys with either HW&Shields or 2 HWs

So - thats where Im at at the moment.

In between getting my 'white' Worldeaters ready for 40k Ill be sculpting the rest of the Chosens 'friends'...14 of course

I may also make 4 more GW warriors - just for good measure!

Comments appreciated...

Like what i see!

Love the way that the conversions aren't like uber complicated and how you have got such a unique unit for just subtle changes. Like the armour of the chosen and the great weapons are nice and straight. Will be keeping an eye on this thread.

Papa Nurgle hears all and enjoys bestowing gifts upon his subjects...

3 of Papa's favourites...

Oooh you lucky lot!

Papa Nurgle IS feeling very generous today....

Here is a shot of the colour scheme for the armour. As I said on the GS'd models I will blend in the flesh to this colour(the flesh most likely being a rotten green with red underneath...)

i like a lot :D simple yet instantly nurgley

if you have the money and want some good looking marauders then try buying a box set of beastmen and chaos warriors and using the warrior legs with beastmen chest and a chaos warrior helmet, they'll look beefy (which is suitable nurgly) and much better than the current marauders imo.

I was going to do the whole Marauder and Zombie parts with a bit of GS work for the marauders...as I have the parts lying around...

Ive also got 4 unassembled Ogre Bulls which will become Chaos Ogres.

I might go back and give the 'armoured belly' to the command in my GW unit, then do the same for the Ogres and, obviously, the Chosen, to add a little more unity to the army....what do people think on this?

Now I was going to use a hellcannon as my Rare Slots which was going to be suitably converted up....(as its still sitting in its box from when I bought the army deal 2 years ago! BUT with the cloud over the SoC stuff im not gonna waste my time.

So I may get myself one of those new Giants and take a modelling knife and GS to it....again thoughts on this?

Lastly I would appreciate any and al comments on the actual paint scheme for the Armour....

Oh and I need base Ideas....

As I said C&C welcome and indeed appreciated...

Looking very nice...
Base-wise, I ain't sure, perhaps you could have swamp-themed ones? Maybe normal but for bigger bases such as orges put some water stuff to make a mini-swamp...
Looking forward to ogre and giant conversions

I really like what you did with the shoulder joints. Minor fixing can make them look ALOT better like you did..

Liking your work. Not too many fantasy project logs about keep up the good work. On a side note how did you do the GW armed Warriors? I think I will have to make them in the future and any help would be great.

Paint jobs looking good so far EE, though it needs some green:p

Also what did you do/use to make the great weapons, the looks good, just stealing ideas for future projects is all.

I shall follow this thread with great interest.
I'm in the middle of building a Chaos army for fantasy myself... Probably undivided... Or Tzeentch... Or Nurgle... Heh.

Chaos indeed. It's hard to decide.

Paint or modeling?

Paint, a little darker and that effect would look very snazzy on my Iron Warriors.

It involves many glazes..I will do a tutorial once I get the technique refined a little more...:D

The armour actually has a greenish tint in real life - its just the camera didnt pick it up!Also I have plans to bring in the green on different parts...

Great weapons made by cutting down and sticking together both sets(left and right) hand weapons...

Ok a (small) update...(and answer to the above!)

I played around with the cloak a little yesterday. It seemed relatively simple(well after painting white marines anyway!) starting with red gore on black undercoat working through to catachan green.

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1898.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1899.jpg

I wanted a more muted 'Low Fantasy' look to the whole army. Therefore my decision to introduce the Nurgle green into the colourscheme by cloth and subtle glazes rather than green armour...

I think this will work - but any suggestions/ comments please let me know...

Ok due to me having to house sit all this week the Ive only managed to get in a couple of hours of painting...

Aswell as finishing off some Marines I also managed to (97%) complete my initial Chaos warrior of nurgle...

Unfortunately because of the glazes ive used on the armour I cant capture some of the tones with the camera(the whole armour has a green tint and looks very weathered) but hopefully you can get the idea...

Just his sword and horns to do - what do you think?

The armour looks great, I have to find some metal to get back to painting, it's been too long, those streaks are quite inspirational..

Ok so I have made a(small) start on my main batch of warriors

As mentioned earlier of I wanted the armour on them to almost be alive - pus ridden with open sores and what not. I had added small amounts of greenstuff for this-hopefully ive pulled off the 'flesh transmuting into metal effect' ok on the painting front...(left knee)

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1964.jpg

the metal above the knee needs 'weathering' but any opinions so far?

I also finishd up the minor details on my 'test' warrior(just need to add shield and base)...

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1960.jpg

http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y73/LLV/PICT1959.jpg

lastly started work on a test colour for my ogres(and may also use on beastmen too) skin..

only 4 pics allowed so see below...

comments?:D

The left side is a grey tone whereas ive given the right side a green tone.

Seen as the ogres will worship Papa Nurgle I think the green will be used

The diseased looks cool. Can we see the front of the ogre?
And just a note, Although I have not played fantasy for awhile I do have sizable empire and dark elf forces although I dont say much about them(i lost too many times with them) but for the time being I am strictly 40k(except for this thread which gets the special stamp of approval:D )

I actually prefer the washed out looking grey on the ogre (although from the picture there is very little difference) I feel it suits the diseased side, which your warriors certainly seem to be slanting towards.

The "living metal" looks good, if not very obvious, maybe simply adding more of it would be better, I mean, the colours are nice, but it's quite limited.
