Hey guys,

Starting my IG army and I've got my theme down. Small force lead by a techpriest assigned with recovering techno artifacts around the galaxy. I'm thinking vet squads, chimeras, sentinals, some kasrkin models as storm troopers so far. Trying to go more quality over quantity and fluff / storyline is more important that army effectiveness for me. Ok so here is a list of problems I'm having that hopefully you guys can help with!

1. Techpriest can't technically lead the army. Which HQ choice should I use to fill the required slot?

2. Not a fan of the gw servitor models. I want the techpriest to be a nice army center piece. Any other models you guys would suggest?

3. I love the tech marine model. Ideas for converting it to an IG tech priest?

4. I'm thinking to kinda mod the sentinals a bit to show theyre part of this tech focused force. Ideas for good bit kits?

Any other ideas you guys have would be welcome!

Thanks

Perhaps you want to look into doing a Skitarii army, using guard rules if you like to be 100% in with the fluff. A quick look around the logs brings up some inspiration, even if some of it is way out of my grasps! (http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?225861-Adeptus-Mechinicus-Skitarii)

The above log answers a few of your questions...

You could also use something like this:

(and there are various other Cryx models that might work if you like that style)

I saw somewhere that someone used sentinels as weapon platforms for combat servitors. the pic that I saw had a plasma cannon sitting on top and a sage(?) underneath it. . .

sorry, found the pic. a conversion on P. 57 of the old WH Codex.

Pictures etc.

I use slightly converted Micro Art Studios' Iron Brotherhood tracked guys as counts-as Scout Sentinels (Centaurinii).

For Servitors, Warmachine Scrap-/Mechanithralls are rather nice, if a little undead looking. Otherwise Ork Nobs might make a good base for Chrono-Gladiator style Servitors.

These guys' raison d'Ítre seems to be to benefit from the untapped market for Ad Mech stuff:

1. Techpriest can't technically lead the army. Which HQ choice should I use to fill the required slot?

For actual Game utility you can't beat the Company Command squad, Fit the squad with Carapace and they can be your Stormtroopers senior command element.
You could also consider the Primaris Psyker as an Electro Priest type character.
The Commissar Lord could also be used as a Skitarii Overseer.

2. Not a fan of the gw servitor models. I want the techpriest to be a nice army center piece. Any other models you guys would suggest?

Servo Skulls with appropriate looking gun parts added? Just because the gun is a Heavy Bolter (for example) doesn't mean your Count As HB skull doesn't actually fire las bolts that are comparable in effect.
What about using Warhammer ghouls with appropriately converted parts, their hunched pose would lend them to back mounted weaponry if you're not fond of arm-snipping.

3. I love the tech marine model. Ideas for converting it to an IG tech priest?

If you're talking about the Tech Marine with the Servo Harness, all you really have to do is say "this is my tech priest". If you want to get a bit more involved you could modify the harness' spare arms to be non weapony, a antenna/dish on one, perhaps some kind of targeting array on another, maybe even an ammo hopper. You could, alternatively, remove the backpack altogether and simpy attach one Servo Claw to his back.

4. I'm thinking to kinda mod the sentinals a bit to show theyre part of this tech focused force. Ideas for good bit kits?

My first thought is, unfortunately a "money is no object" type of deal. The "Execution Servitor" available in Karamazov's throne or the SoB Exorcist as hard wired pilots. Muy Expensive.
You could go with "H-Grade" Servitors. In short, Ogryn sized Servitors. You just need to Kitbash a cybernetic looking big chap. The Orge Kingdoms Ogres, Skaven Rat Ogres or Vampire Counts Vargheists are all good starting points.
Edit the Sentinel leg/hip sections to fit the bodies and splice the two, guns can be whole-arm replacements, fore-arm replacement or even something like a held rifle. Additional Walker parts (like Dreadnoughts) are handy if you have them lying about too.

If you're using Crypt Ghouls for Servitors, Vargheists as the basis for Ogryn stand-ins (or as the meat-components for Servi-sentinels) might help give your army a little bit more coherency.
