View Full Version : Doomsday scenarios!

Help me come up with doomsday scenarios for the campaign I'm running.

Basically soemthing that will end the 40K world as we know it.

Nothing is too far fetched! Let your imagination run wild! However, some how there must be a possibility of proventing it.

One idea I have is an Old One artifact (inside the forbidden temple of doom) that sends out massive waaagh brain waves that unites all orks in a wide area(solar system size). So who ever has the artifact can pretty much move around and unite all green skins in one massive wave of violence that will end all in the galaxy as we know it.

Ideas, suggestions, comments!

Go nuts boys!

For "end-of-the-galaxy-machines" built by a race long since extinct, look no further than the Halo games. Activate the weapon, and all sentient life in the galaxy will be destroyed. Add in a few fanatically faithful zealots who wish to activate it for their own rather suspect means, and there you go.

Just tinker with it a little to make it more 40k-y. So instead of wiping out all sentient life, maybe the weapon is a failsafe against the C'tan. The ultimate weapon, long since passed into legend, that will supernova all the stars in a given area in order to starve them from the galaxy. Put in a slightly demented inquisitor/chaos cult who thinks activating it is a good idea and bingo- storyline.

How about an ancient Eldar artifact that will rip open a hole in the warp large enough to consume the entire galaxy?

How about a long forgotten button that deactivates the Golden Throne? Dun dun dun!

Sure, it's far fetched but wouldn't it make a great "Hey, what's this button do?" scene?

More seriously: Depending on the characters involved in this scenario you could have some sort of device that was built by the Eldar to combat Slaanesh? Or vice versa, Slaanesh cult constructing the ultimate "finish off the eldar" thing.

Or if Orks are a big thing then how about a HUUUUUUUGE kannon designed by the biggest big meks around, which conveniently is designed to use a remote that they've, conveniently, dropped somewhere on some random planet surface. Now, you have to get it to either fire it off or use it's "fale safe" to 'splode it good.

Some kind of psychic bomb - when it goes off, the shockwave expands slowly and indefinitely, but anywhere within its (infinite!) blast radius has the barriers between Warpspace and Real space torn down.

Imagine staring at a slowly expanding see through wall, and on the other side the Warp flooding into the world, knowing that there's nothing you or anyone else can do to stop the wall from expanding..

Depends on the armies involved.

Some Gretchin find fungus on a planet which has a similar, but not the same effect on them as the original fungus which made Brain Boys. You can tailor the details to the gaming group.

The Tyranids came from a distant Galaxy. Instead of leaving because they consumed everything worth eating, maybe they were driven out, and what ever drove them is now coming in on their heels.

New aliens from a third galaxy arrive and start fighting for ours, after they have conquored their own, instead of leaving it lifeless and barren, ala Tyranids, they are still using it for support. Possibly using something akin to the web way to get between galaxies faster than warp travel would allow.

Personal favorite, an expedition finds the planet Skarro and the Kaled people declare war on all races, this time no Time Lords to stop them.

I'll try to work on some far fetched ones.

Can't believe I forgot this one.:cries:

An Inquisitor and/or Chaos Lord find out how to get too the Black Library. This time it's the reel Black Library not like the hundreds of other times they have found out how to get there just to find a Black Hole or something.

Now that the Tyranid scouting fleet tendrils have gathered information on the galaxy, the main body of the 'nid fleet arives. how did the 40k galaxy die? The Tyranids ate it. :chrome:

And, much to everyones suprise, most of the force is composed of zoats, spouting incomprehensible philisophical truths, and generally kicking ass :)
