hi, scince a battlefield is no place for a circus, i choose to make a pirate theme army instead.

here are facts about pirates
* pirates are real men, just like lumberjacks.

* pirates eat rocks and s**t gunpowder.

* pirates eat lots of meat.

* pirates hate vegeterians.

* the only natural enemy of the pirates are the ninjas.

* pirates are cool and some pirates can pull out sharks from the water and kill them with a knife.

now, what army works best like a pirate based army?

i think eighter ogres or bretonnians.

what do you think?

i forgot to post, no dow or spec.chars.

Erm... Bretonnian :eyebrows:

I'd go for Dogs of War, trust me, they have Duelists, they have Paymasters, they have halflings and dwarfes, they have cannons and they have the Pirate Maneater models at their disposal.

BTW, you can lock the thread yourself, in the upper right corner of the thread, there is the button named "thread tools", press that, mark "lock this thread" and hit "execute action"

i made once a 2000pts brett list, it was cool and destroyed one 2000pts ogre list.

3x 25 man, 1 rank units bowmen.
2 damsels

However, how are you going to justfy using the rules for Bretonnia?

This thread is seriously off the rails. I mean, seriously.

Pirate facts? Bretonnian pirate cavalry? Is this for real?!

Zombie pirates would be the obvious answer.

01-05-2006, 16:02
but they are not an official list.

01-05-2006, 16:19
there is nothing Pirate about Bretonnias!!!!

Empire/Dogs of War... or Ogres would be your safest bet.

01-05-2006, 16:27
but if you convert a bit...

i made one pirate bret army list, and renamed thew units and items. and they were good.

01-05-2006, 16:41
Still, pirates do NOT have cavalry of ANY form! (at least not that can travel on dry land)

01-05-2006, 16:56
yes, you are right, no pirate cav.

but i need a manly army to convert to pirates, lots of blackpowder, and cannons, probably the empire (because they have lots of blackpowder).

have pirates steam tanks, or aren't steam tanks manly enough?

i can always convert steam tanks into mini-ironclads with wheels.

Dogs of War, if this post isn't really meant to be yanking my chain. Bretonnian pirates....really?

Dwarf pirates would be cool, too.

01-05-2006, 17:37
DoW would let you include some proper pirate ogres as well as having the odd cannon. Duelists for your skirmishing pirates (give them pistols), beserkers perhaps if you want some ranks. Paymaster sits on a treasure chest as the first mate, the captain as a general.

No cavalry. Ever.

01-05-2006, 18:59
i said no dow. i would realy want dow, but they aren't tournie legal.

01-05-2006, 19:13
Then, Empire would be your best choice, however, stay away from the following units:

Knights of any kind
Too many mortars

A bunch of cannons, a single mortar and then, lots of spearmen and swordsmen with a few handgunners as detatchments.

Watch that "Far side of the World" movie with Russel Crowe for good inspiration on what to take in the list, watch "Pirates of the Caribean" to get inspiration for the models

01-05-2006, 20:33
Since when were Dogs Of War not tournie legal? Madness!

All of the DoW units fit.
Lord Drong's Slayer Pirates
Duelists (Deckhands)
Ogres Of Any Kind
Pikemen (Boarding Parties used pikes, So you should set yourself a 0-1 restriction)
Dwarfs (Dwarf Pirates)
Norsemen (Pirate Berserkers)
Cannon (Ship Cannon)

You can even have a token unit of Zombie Pirates via the rules for the Cursed Company.

Failing you wanting to start a DoW army, I'd go for Ogres.

Tyrant: Cap'n
Bruiser: Ship's Mate
Butcher: Ship's Cook
Hunter: Fisherman (not trouts and salmon... Kraken and Nessie ;) . Merwyrms instead of Sabretusks)

Ironguts/Bulls: Pirates (ALL with look-out Gnoblars.)
Trappers: Ship's Boys
Gnoblars: Deckswabbers

Leadbelchers: Ship's Cannon-wielders
Scraplauncher: Giant salvaged scrap-firing cannon drawn by a Merwyrm.
Yhetees: No idea.

Maneaters: Veteran Pirates
Gorger: Sea-troll, enslaved by Ogres
Slave Giant: Not sure he'd fit on a ship...

Slave Giant: Not sure he'd fit on a ship...

remember, these would be ships made for ogres...i'm sure they could squeeze a giant on there.

However; don't you have to use Citadel miniatures to participate in GW tournaments? They haven't made many pirate models lately so that might pose a problem if you have tourney intentions.

01-05-2006, 20:54
Bah. Free Company and green stuff.

01-05-2006, 22:07
And for ogres? Perhaps just a little conversion, an eyepatch here, a handgun there.

Sheer class ass.

02-05-2006, 13:20
There are a number of Ogre Pirate armies knocking around; Try the Ogre Stronghold forum.

02-05-2006, 15:59
Id go for DOW using a lot of empire free company models...

(my pirates will be manly with balls of steel! and straight, there will be non-fighting women on board)

i think i'll make a empire army, or ogre. (of green stuff)

the tourament rules are (of the local tournament in my town)
*no spec chars
*no dow
*no stuff that doesen't have an own army book (i.e. wd and chronicles and internet stuff)
