View Full Version : 2500 point standard empire army list.

Hello I've been a long time lurker looking for empire advice for a while and finally got the money to start collecting an army. I used to play 40k a lot went to tournaments etc, but fantasy always was the little nudge in my side and i eventually decided to start playing. I know a bit, but questions about how to rank and file my troops are still mysteries to me. Here is an empire list I created with a couple things in mind. Enough war machines to be able to poke at my enemy and force them to come to me, 3 big blocks of infantry to bog down or kill things, Demigrpyhs to hammer flanks while pistolers and witch hunters harass and snipe stuff. I am taking ANY critique as i want to make a good standard 2500 point empire army list. As stated all advice is welcome weither it be about my list or how to play or what to take vs certain races. Thanks for taking your time to read my list.

You pay shields 1 point per q model so that unit would be 420 also don't post specific upgrade costs.

Okay can't go wrong with your artillery there.
Halberdier hordes can work really well same as the greatswords.
For the wizard van hortsmans is a great choice same for a scroll.
Witch hunters aren't great too specialized.
Pistolers aren't very good.
warrior priests can be very useful.
BSB is a great choice a must have in 8th.

i would trade up the pistoliers for a luminark and a priest and witch hunter for a hurricanum. the bonuses are really useful and they ahve good magic attacks

What I did was cut down on my core by 5 units of helberdiers per unit and also leveled my greatswords from 35 to 30. I took away the pistoleers and added another 3 demigryphs. I also took away the wargear from my engie and beefed up my BSB, arch lector, warrior priest, and lvl 4 mage. I am 8 points over so i have been thinking of taking away 1 halberdier per unit and taking away 1 great swordsmen to make room for the characters that i will put in those units unless that breaks the rank and file. I also think i need to fit in a hurricanum for that extra +1 to hit. Maybe i can take out a warmachine and skim down a bit to put a priest on it as well.

Well armour of destiny is armour gives a heavy armour save tons of items have equivalents so you can have ward saves on tons of characters.

your AL doesnt need the helm and shield if he has AoMI, plus many of your characters have copy cat armour, so cut them, you can only have a magic item once. With the pts from magic items , perhaps drop the demigryphs and add a steam tank for a solid flank protection.

No point getting a 30 point sword for 2 attacks. Keep your hero priest cheap!

Also, you cannot duplicate the same
Magic item, but it looks like you havent given your BSB full plate... Is that a mistake?

Drop a musician or a couple of core troopers to get it and a 35 point buffet, then chuck on the crown of command on AL. Stubborn would be nice for one of your blocks.

Otherwise it's nice!

Look to drop 5 points for the crown of command on AL or....

Remember when I said don't worry about 30 point swords?? Try a couple of 5 point ones from the rule book for the heros or AL. That allows you to have some help if your unit gets charged by ethereal units (they can only be hurt by magical weapons or spells).

Other than those ideas you could get ring of Volans...one cast of a spell from any lore can give you some interesting choices. You could get a great spell or you can still take the signature. Very useful on beasts/shadow/...lots of choices.

30 points can be used in so many ways-- 6 spearmen as a small roadblock unit

Couple things...

1) You do not have enough points in Core.. you need 625 for a 2500pt list
2) Pidgeon bombs for the engineer... because they are hilarious

Well **** i didnt know you needed a certain amount of points for core. Would you suggest dropping a cannon or the hellblaster for more halberds or even a squad of inner circle? Never researched them at all i have no idea how they preform.

With regards to what lore to take, pick a lore where you can cast empowered versions of buffs spells so that they effect everything within 12 inches. for example you can cast pha's protection, speed of light and timewarp from lore of light at a higher than normal casting value and have the spell effect all of your units within 12 inches. good lores for this are light, metal, and heavens. That being said shadow is such a good lore that it is usually still worth taking anyway. Giving your wizard a cheap unit to bodyguard him so he doesn't have to be in combat is also a good idea, 10 regular archers is usually the best for that.

I dont have the rulebook on me, but do you get to pick your lores or are they random? With the extra 30 points the only 5 unit detachment that i can afford are spearmen, free company, and helberds.

Yes you pick your lores when you write the list, you do not however pick the spells you get from the lore. But there are ways to help imporve the chances of getting the spells you want i.e. certain magic items, or making sure other wizards pick the other spells so that the later ones to pick get the ones that are left.
