View Full Version : Hello band wagon... A Pre Heresy Word Bearer log

17-05-2012, 21:24
Ok well I'm jumping on that band wagon and starting a pre heresy Word Bearers force. I've got lots of ideas floating around in my head about when in the fluff i base them, I'm not super hot on their fluff though :( current ideas are to have their original colours but try to sneak in some subtle hints of corruption, and possible some Gal Vorbak?

Anyway I'm currently painting up a few test figures (see below) and have 5 Mk2 Crusade and 5 Mk3 Iron armour from FW in the process of being made up.

I also have some playing around with the idea of some robed marines aswell, using some DA bits (need to see how that turns out).

Anyway pics:

Original test mini, but the red was too orange:

Sooooo I tried a different method on the red (who'd of thought purple would work so well)

Well that's it for now, real life means this will be a slow update, but any comments ideas etc are more than welcome.

Oh and obligatory desk shot (no pets)

Bold, vivid, striking, and yet avoids cartoonishness. Utterly gorgeous, and I must insist on MORE :D

Really well done. The sarge is especially vivid (and fanatic).

Will these dudes have the original Flaming Book legion badge?

I'm trying to sort out a greenstuff mold of a grey knight shoulder pad book (without sword) which i will use as a shoulder badge, my general freehand skills are generally not so good, might have a play around and see if i can paint one easily.

Thanks for the comments so far, hopefully get more done over the weekend.

Just as a note, the bases I've done so far are just quick jobs, I haven't figured out how i want to do them yet.

Damn, I really need to post my PH Word Bearers soon :p Great stuff with a lovely red and grey contrast, loving the sarge with the script on his head :D

Nice painting. The red on the sergeant is much better than the original test and I really like the destails especially the tattoos on his head.

Oh wow..... I don't know what to say. It's ******** beautiful.

Thanks for all the awesome comments people :) at least I know i'm heading in the right direction.

Anyway small update, I've been playing around with a conversion for Erebus. It uses the chaos terminator lord as a base. My thinking is that Erebus would have very baroque and subtley chaos-ified artificer armour, I admit however that his crozius is slightly overt. Anyway what are people's thoughts? Colour scheme wise i was thinking i would stick with the same grey/red. Anyway pics...

I would also just like to justify this being in the Imperium section, these boys are begining to fall, but may not have totally renounced (officially) the emperor, so for all intents and purposes they are still loyal. But for all you sensitive loyalists, there may be the odd chaos star or corrupt marine ;).

We need a heresy/pre heresy section to avoid this potential confusion :)

Ok then update time :)

So I've finished my Erebus (well finished is a loose term, i know there are a couple of bits i've missed). As i said before, my thinking is that Erebus is aware of the primordial truth, and as such has commanded his armour be embellished a little *cough* and his crozius too. Anyway pics:

Hmm the flash seems to have flattened the colours a little.... anyway....

I've also purchase a Kabuki Miniatures Preacher Knight (Lorgar by any other name possibly), really nice detailed mini, however his head was absolutely tiny, so instead i've used a space marine chapter master head instead which seems to scale him much better with the other marines.
