View Full Version : Star Trekkin' Across the Universe

I've been painting up my Star Trek fleets, and thought it'd be a good time to do a plog.

Mongoose released the A Call To Arms: Star Fleet just before Christmas. Due to a series of issues with production of resin miniatures all ships except the Klingon and Romulan dreadnoughts have been switched to metal, with the result that Mongoose are now caught up with orders and starting to get back on track with releases, and also that I've got some resin miscast ships I've had replaced with metals that will be turning up as wrecks. After a shakey start miniatures are getting much easier to get hold of, the quality issues have been dealt with, and I've had no complaints about the miniatures in either of the squadron boxes or the Klingon fleet. I've had replacements for the miscast resin stuff.

I originally bought a Klingon fleet box - http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniatures/ctastarfleet/klingon/klingon-fleet-box-set.html
And a Federation fleet box - http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniatures/ctastarfleet/federation/federation-fleet-box-set.html

The fleet boxes come with a mini rulebook containing the game rules and fleet lists for the Klingons, Federation and Romulans. They are very useful to haave when gaming, as you want to quickly refer to the critical chart.

However at the Birmingham Games Expo I bought 2 Federation Reinforcement squadron boxes - http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/miniatures/ctastarfleet/federation/squadron-box-7-federation-reinforcements.html

And another FD7 and a Federation Manta Ray fast cruiser. I also swapped a Federation battlecruiser for 2 E4 frigates. This means I have one of every Federation ship, and the only Klingon ships I don't have two of are the C8 Dreadnought and the D5W New Heavy cruiser.

Which means I have 19 Klingon ships, 25 Federation ships (I intend to swap my 3rd Dreadnought for more Klingons or smaller Federation ships) and 12 shuttles to paint, along with making some space terrain.

I started with my Klingon ships, hoping to use them in a tournament, but my health wasn't up to it (you probably owe it to your opponent not to be off your face on synthetic opioids when you play them, to the point where you don't know what day it is sometimes). Instead I helped with lots of demos.

I've got eight Klingon ships completed and varnished so far. I'm doing green Klingons instead of the traditional grey seen in the Original Series. I'm not very good with photos.

2 E4 frigates (currently the cheapest ships in the game)

3 F5 Frigates

1 FD7 Fast Cruiser

2 C7 Battlecruisers

But what's this? The start of me painting my Federation fleet.

Looking very good Ben. I like the Klingons in green, but as I painted my Romulans green I'll have to leave my Klingons grey.

Will be watching to see how your Feds turn out as my white spray, grey wash didn't work so well

Awesome paint jobs bud! Those minis look great and I am very tempted. Some time ago I was hunting for a mini of the Excelsior to start up a fleet.

The Excelsior class is from the films and therefore doesn't fall within the licensing parameters, so you won't be able to get that model or rules for it from Mongoose

Nice, like the klingons and I don't suppose you have more pictures of the Federation reinforcements as I have the federation fleet box, and am curious about the new ships.
