Hihi!

- I've been talking about building this for ages...well, now I finally found Plastic to build it, hurrah! I quickly drew up some sketches (which are photographed here: http://s48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja)

- Originally, I didn't want to add a turret, but here it is in the end, lol. Some of the images are slightly squater (the one below), but the final size will be more like second picture.

(Oooh, it's going to be remote-controlled btw...that's the only way I was able to pass it off as a "self-directed project". I have a month to complete it...I sincerly doubt that this'll be driving around within that time, lol)

- Here's an update. This is my first attempt at scratchbuilding... unfortunately I don't enjoy the use of "Plastikard" or any other thin, flexible sheet styrene. All I have is some nitty, gritty, sheet plastic that doesn't bond with plastic glue, though a hot-glue gun works wonders! I still have to sand down some edges and fix those track guards, but otherwise, what can I fix? I couldn't find any tape within the vicinity, so, unfortunately for you all, I couldn't pre-assemble it.

- I found some tape! Here's four fancy-dancy photos of the taped-together beast. Everything's looking a little crooked - partly due to gravity, but most likely because I suck, lol!

It's looking good, quite broad, but very powerful. I think you'll need to invest in a fine nail file to smooth out the plasticard though, some areas look a little rough.

I have two questions concerning this, how did you bend the plastic (ie. was there any heating involved)? And, what are you going to use for the treads and wheels, something from a WWII kit?

- Lol, yah, some areas are "a little rough". I'm slowly working away at those corners, so it'll look a little prettier in the next update...hopefully.

...how did you bend the plastic (ie. was there any heating involved)?

- I've used two methods on to bend the plastic thus far, both involving heating. I used a strip heater to make the straight bends (the front end), and one of those big, very hot, blowdriers for melting glue to bend the track guard. I'll take some photos on Monday when I can get into the shop again.

And, what are you going to use for the treads and wheels, something from a WWII kit?

- I'm using these:

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/2711535c.jpg

- Shown are the tracks (WWII German style. They're plastic, have some guides, and can hook up together. I have 6 segments like the two shown), the normal wheel (bottome left), and the guide wheels (They'll be positioned at the front of the tank). Unfortunately, when I bought the old, broken RC tank, the shop owner had already salvaged the drive wheels and the motors, but that's what I get for $5. 'Least I got the tracks and wheels (DYK it's very difficult to find rubber tracks on toys these days?).

Ok i see what your doing now. I was a little hesitant on what you where trying to do. Looks good and awsome that your going to make it remotecontroled. Keep it up

You might want to look at this kit (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=70108) from Tamiya. It's relatively cheap, and gets you a good starting point on the movement. They've got a remote (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=70102) for it too. You'd have the wires sticking out, rather than a radio control... but about a hozillion times cheaper.

- How does that tank turn? I only see one motor in there. Additionally, I'll need to make a geared down motor for the turret, so I may actually be better off buying the 3 motors individually (approx $3 from those dollar store fans), hooking 'em all to a single breadboard, finding some old clock gears, and hiding the batteries inside the fuel tanks (I think I'll need 6 in parellel - alternatively, I could use a cheap cell phone battery, but I'll need to reduce the current somehow).

- It's a grand idea that I'll probably have to use, so thanks Koto!

- On a blogging note...I didn't accomplish anything today. I was, erm... distracted...I'll try to finish some tomorrow, though I'm working most of the day. The next update will be Tuesday (maybe Monday), as I won't be home 'til 11:00ish on Monday and I dunno if I'll be able to upload the new pictures. I'll be able to answer any questions (yay!), but you'll have to wait on the pictures, unfortunately. Ta ta lads!

I'd not noticed that. They've got a few other tracked sets, that actually use two motors. They're all $30+, though. Of course, for $12 I just found this dual motor gearbox (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=70097) which is used in the 30+ dollar kits. You can see more of the stuff here (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/category.php?sub-id=38000&page=3), including the kits with remotes and full running gear. This kit (http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=70107) comes with a 3 motors and the 3 channel remote to operate them all. Re-rigging the setup for the dozerblade to control a turret shouldn't be much problem. Of course, it's a bit on the pricier side at almost $40... but working with gears is a pain in the butt. It might be worth it. I dunno.

- Hiho laddy boys! I've had a bit of bad luck the last two (or longer?) weeks, so I'd better excuse myself.

- Shortly following my last post (Tuesday, I believe), my home computer died. Well, that's no good, I'd better fix that! I fixed it by Friday, buuuut, on Thursday my hot water tank blew (god damnit!), so I had to order a new one. Then, on the Saturday (hadn't done anything on Friday 'cause I was taking out the tank), my car died (the heater coil blew out...I didn't find that out until I had wasted the better part of the morning on finding the problem). Wow, what luck. Let's see, where are we now...ah, on Sunday (the 14th) I dislocated my shoulder and was stoned outta my mind on Morphine for a few hours (damn those in-line skates!). The unfortunate part of the dislocation is that it happened to be my right arm, which is my dominant side. So, no work on Monday or Tuesday. By Wednesday, I was allowed to take of the sling (yay!), and helped install the new heater that had just arrived. Another unfortunate incidence, I rolled over in my sleep and dislocated my shoulder again - the doctor didn't realise how much damage had happened. Allright, here we are a week later, and I'm daring to use my hands to type (oh,a nd I found my camera cord). So, here's the updates!

- I bought the Tamiya tracked chassis dealio and popped it into the bottom of my chassis. The Tamiya version is quite a bit longer than mine, so I'm kinda playing with it. If I continue with the remote control idea (unlikely as I'll have to build my own breadboard, which is unlikely to be successful at this size), then I'll make the fuel tanks into battery pods. If I use a tether cable, then they'll be in the controller.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/9ee3c590.jpg

- Originally, I had intended to make the turret spin. Ummm, not anymore, sorry!

- You'll notice in the pictures that there are only four wheels and it looks really off balance. Well, I was too lazy to rebuild the aft, so I just kept it in its retarded state. I'll probably add some weight (probably in the form of nuts and bolts) to the front to balance it out.

- The size may look off, but it's actually damn near the same size as a Hellhound. From the bottom to the top, it's just a few mm's short of the Hellhound (not counting turrets), and from the prow back, it's the same length as the track guards on the Chimera chassis. Pretty nifty, IMO.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/e52e36d6.jpg

- Another thing the keen observer may notice, there are some parts missing (uhoh!). The vertical dividers had to be removed because the tracks are sitting a little further out than I expected, so I'll just rebuild those bitzies. As well, that front angle bit that leads up the the drivers had been removed because it was bent too high up and at too sharp of an angle to pass over the motors. I'll add a new piece eventually, but first I'll build the innards (why not).

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/03cc435e.jpg

- I've still gotta solder on some new wires (the ones in the kit suck donkey), then I can add the deck over the gearboxes. I was thinking about vaccuumforming a piece, but I'll probably skimp out on it.

- Allright, your turn, I need to know:
-- Is the camo scheme okay? What can I fix on it?
-- How can I make it look more like a Universal Carrier?

Oh what a week! I hope you have a better next week.

However your Hellhound is coming along nicely. However, I must say that the side profile looks a bit toyish. I like the camo pattern very much, though!

- Yah, that toyish feel is what I wanna get rid of, any suggestions? I'm having trouble finding what exactly makes it toyish - the wheel placement maybe? Or the ground clearance? I just can't seem to put my finger on it... A turret and some bitzies may help, but I'm not sure how much, lol. To be fair, it's been three weeks, lol.

Ground clearence I reckon, those 2 middle wheels seem way to far from the main body to my eyes.

- Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get anything done today really. I was hoping to solder the wires to the plug, then fix the plug into the tank, than measure and construct the vertical slats, but, unfortunately, I don't have a soldering gun. Well, I do, but it's over there:

ooh purty. really loving the tank commander, bet the legs took a while to properly place lol

Cadian 21st

- Actually, the commander/gunner took very little time indeed (all I did was saw off his waist, take the legs to a disk sander, glue him in and add some GS. From the back, he looks terrible, but you can't tell with the chair :D ). Unfortunately, his crotch is a bit of a mess, but luckily that'll be blocked by his hands/the Multi-Laser (bottem left - still gotta add some more cables, but that's what it'll sorta look like). Oh, the legs aren't quite "placed" yet, I just squeezed them in a bit and put him in his trackguard chair. I'll paint him up, than glue him in (I'm still considering whether to add padding to the chair or not).

- Ooooh, lucky you guys, only 8 days since my last post!

- Mmmk, I've been working on my Chimera and my Hellhound at the same time some more. Unfortunately, I forgot to take a picture of the rest of the Chimera, but here's the turret and gunner.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Cadian%2021st/1c40b884.jpg

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Cadian%2021st/1c2c1ae5.jpg

- Before anyone pipes in, yes, the gunner is a different scheme than the turret. The turret is the same pattern that I'll be using on the whole of the tank and it's crew members, and the gunner's scheme will be used on the squad being transported. The gunner is actually the Sergeant of said squad. As the gunner isn't actually a member of the tank crew, his earpiece is probably on a different frequency than the crews', so there's a handy-dandy Vox unit beside him for relaying orders :D.

- Allright, here's Freyja's improvements! In the background of the first picture, you can see the Chimera (though now there's a skeleton for the canvas top in the back). I'm still unsure whether to make it a Half-Track or not...but that's another topic!

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/48588905.jpg

- And here we have the Machine Gunner for Freyja. He looks pretty sweet. I've started on the MG, but it's not quite fully painted yet...

- Here's the gunner by his lonesome :'( . He actually sits flat most of the time (his feet aren't in the air all the time). I'll be making chairs for him and the driver at some point (probably tomorrow). The right half of his face is bionic (hence the steel plate, red eye, and wire, though you can't see it that well in the picture). The camo scheme is actually the same stippling as on the tank (you can see it clearly in the second picture). I was wondering if I should continue this onto the helmet, or keep the helmet a flat brown? As well, should I toss the green fatigues?

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/46f34f69.jpg

- "To Do" list:
-- Make seats
-- Make other crewmen
-- Find a life
-- Give up life and finish the Heavy Bolter
-- Make the Inferno Cannon (I'm thinking of adding a Hellhound type of head just in front of the turret [which will be similar to that on Beamo] and adding storm bolters through its eyes and the cannon through its mouth :D )

- Polls for the day:
-- Should I camo the helmets on Freyja's crew?
-- Should I change the fatigues to a different colour? If so, what?

- Aiight, I've swapped all the pictures save for the most recent update with links. Hopefully that'll persuade some people to respond...there've been approx 150 views since yesterday and still none, lol! I finished constructing the turret and the seats. I'll glue up the driver and finish painting the HB tonight...

- Poll for the day:
-- Should I have the Inferno Cannon Gunner seated in a chair similar to the Sentinel Pilot's, or should I have him standing?

I actually kinda looks like a Bren Carrier, or am I stating something Stupid/Obvious right now.

I'm not really a fan of the twisting gun barrels though.

As for your poll, blue tack the bits in place and make a picture, so we can see and judge your ideas properly :D

- Cool, thanks! Thats what I'm aiming for!

I'm not really a fan of the twisting gun barrels though.

- I'm not happy with the barrels either, unfortunately. They came as an accident, unfortunately. The wires I cut were close to the same size, + or - 1mm. Some were too long, some were too short, but the shorter ones wouldn't hold together when I put the wires straight. I may well rip that section apart and replace it with straight connections.

As for your poll, blue tack the bits in place and make a picture, so we can see and judge your ideas properly :D

- I'll start constructing the two gunner variants tonight! Yesterday, I went to my brother's parade thingie, so I didn't really get anything done, but tonight should be a different story.

- Hello, hello! I've finished the turret and seats, added the Heavy Bolter, and begun work on the Inferno Cannon. I've primed the driver, and will start/finish painting him tomorrow evening. Yes, I know, I require extensive glue removal...I'll get to it, I swear. Do I really have a choice? Oh yah, I picked up four CO2 cannisters for the fuel tanks in the back. They were a little too long, so I've cut them down a bit and I'll add a valve and some tubes running em to the turret.

http://i48.photobucket.com/albums/f217/ComradeMorik/Freyja/84c7fd39.jpg

- I felt like screwing around here and added the Chimera turret and men inside. It looks pretty good, and I'm second-guessing myself on whether or not I should make the UC into a Chimera, rather then a Hellhound...what do you guys think?

- There're four of the members of the AFS, the one in the back clutching a gun shot wound, the Sgt, and the two firing forward. The camo scheme looks okay (though only the Sgt. and one Trooper are painted in that manner), IMO.

I don't know if this has been said before, but why are the barrels on the gun twisted?

- It hasn't been asked, but Eduard noted his dislike for them already. I hate 'em too, and will be replacing the barrels with straight ones. Anyways, the reason that they're bent is 'cause I accidentally made some a fraction of a mm longer, and some a fraction of a mm shorter. Because of these varying sizes, the only way that the gun would remain straight, and look somewhat okay, was if they were twisted. I honestly will be fixing it when I get to it.

- Anyways, here's an update. Nothing new with Freyja, cept the driver's been painted.

- Beamo's tarp was added, and the model was primered. The other two Troopers have been painted, a fifth AFS member was constructed, and a bench added to the tank. I also raised the turret mounting. The tank will be painted in the same way as the turret, though the tarp and innards will be either a tan or olive green. I'll be using the normal tracks, so that'll cover the muckups on the top. Additionally, there'll be either a second canvas top, or else a camo netting over the whole rear end. Here's da picatures!

i like the smaller vehicle, but not the larger one, its not very "imperial" with tarp.
