Alright, I have some questions. I play guard, now the only power weapons they put out for guard are swords pretty much. I want to run some axes and maces. I know the marines have some rare power mace bits, they are a little large and rare to truely easily place on some guardsmen.

So question is, what would you use as the easy way to get some sweet power axes and maces ? Any sights that might have them I'm not aware of ? I know marines have some power axes, but they are a bit over large. So looking for more guard fitting stuff. Any help on this would be appreciated.

For maces and axes try humanish fantasy models. They won't however have any power cabling or such to mark them as power weapons.

Also, be aware that as the guard lacks power weapons that aren't swords in models, there's a distinct chance that's all they're going to be able to buy in their next codex.

Oh yeah, I can imagine such, but I am just hopping we have the option to be more exciting then just power swords. Worse comes to worse, if I find ones that look good, I'll just model um up, paint um and use um and if they take it away. They'll be neat and diffrent looking power swords, I don't think any will care. If its not an option for varying armament shouldn't end up confussing then. As well, a mace is just much cooler to crush heads with then a sword, imo.

The Necromunda enforcers patrol team includes a couple of power mauls for maces. Enginseers have power axes, although a bit too adeptus mechanicus perhaps. Beyond that, I think you have to go down the marine scaled axes, or use fantasy weapons.

On a related topic, did anyone notice that the Master of the Forge entry in the Marine Codex invalidates the Techmarine model? The entry only allows for the purchase of a power sword or thunder hammer. The model comes equipped with an axe. Bit of an oversight. You get that an awful lot in the the codices where the writer obviously meant to put down "power weapon" but wrote "sword" instead. This wasn't such a big issue in the last iteration of the rules but it's a bit of pain now.

I noticed you failed to notice that there are new FAQs out and all references to "power swords" are replaced with "power weapons" on the Space Marines HQ pages.

Yes, yes, I did. This is good news for my Salamaders MotF. A tip of the hat to you, sir.

I'm wondering how easily a chainsword could be converted to a power maul; cut it away above the fist, slice off the teeth and exhaust port, shave down blade narrow and then re-attach upside down; blocky high-tech thingy on-a-stick = power maul.
Usable, or just as dreadful as it sounds now I've said it out loud?

might all be a bit big, you can never tell online without examples on models

If you're looking for axes and/or maces, have you considered Chaos Marauder weapons ?

I was thinking that if you wanna run melee guard platoons you could always equip the seargs with both a power axe and a power maul. That way you got versatility to handle whatever you face in a good way. MEQs or TEQs? Power axe. Anything else? Power maul. Though it could be a small liability since it means you can hurt that wraithlord in cc...

If you could give them power lances I'd go with one of those and a power axe though =)

Space wolf sprue has a power axe.

Chaos knights have a couple of cool axe heads if you go through a bits vendor.

Guitar string makes good power cables on 28mm models. As someone else mentioned the base of 40k chainswords makes good power units if you want to convert regular axes into power axes.

I'm waiting for the boxed set to come out in September, but I've looked at the book anyway. Don't power axes strike at Init 1 now?

Yup. Not a huge issue for Guard sergeants, but don't expect to see any on marine characters.

Thanks Odin. I just wanted to make sure. Both Huron Blackheart and Kharn the Betrayer got it bad with that rule.

In addition to some of the Fantasy bits, *one* of the Commissars does have an axe. It's an expensive route if you're trying to convert a bunch of models, but for just one or two you could try to track down a couple of them (dunno if they're still in production) and have a whole guard-model sized weapon you could cut off (or hand, or arm). Downside, it's a whole mini just to cut off the weapon, unless you're also short on commissars and can either run him as the axe, or swap in whatever the axe replaces.

Not sure about easy mauls though.
