Hey all I've had this thread going on a few other forums but I figured I'd start it here as well to see what all of you thought.

3rd Assault Company, XII Legion Astartes

This project concerns, as the banner says, the 3rd Assault Company of the XII Legion Astartes, the World Eaters, lead by Captain Crixus Urteil nicknamed, "The Headsman." I'm using the Blood Angels codex ruleset as I feel it best represents the Heresy Era World Eaters and their steadily eroding self control under Angron's leadership. The Timeframe I'm aiming for with the army is post-Istvaan V when they have been sent alongside the Word Bearers to rampage through the Ultima sector.

Some background fluff on the Company:

Captain Crixus was unique in that he not only made extensive use of Destroyer squads in his company, but also maintained a personal cadre composed of Veteran Destroyers who accompanied him in battle. Though the use of such units was often spurned by many of his peers in other Legions as well as his own, it was Captain Crixus' belief that only by destroying not only the enemy, but his family, his home, and the very earth he walked upon would you ensure complete and total victory from which a foe would never arise again.

Nice steady hand, excellent detailing so far. Can't wait to see him finished and based!

Given the presence of MKVII armour and the Aquila, I assume this is a test mini? Test passed!

Wow subscribed. I was thinking of making Pre heresy world eaters about this manner. But time is a virtue so I will have to enoy yours :)

Also the miss with the aquila on Brutus chest. They did not have those :/

Indeed. Also, how the blood sprays on the miniatures all make sense regarding their location relative to the weapons; you can just imagine the spinning chainblades mincing some poor bugger's face and it resulting in just such gore spatter, heh.

That is a *********** amazing Contemptor. Except the Aquila. :shifty:

Nice Assoult Marines, and very cool Contemptor. But ... Inquisitor Engel is right ... the aquila doesn't work with the pre heresy theme  but i think it's too late to cut it off :(?

Wow, very nice! Love the worn look and the bloodied armour. Are you planning on adding some grass or something to the bases? They seem rather plain at the moment... Anyways, great job so far!

The aquila was used pre-heresy.

The aquila was used pre-heresy.

Only by Emperor's Children and Primarchs :) But those World Eaters look great even with the Aquilas :D Great work

Thanks for the compliments everyone, as far as my logic goes on the Aquila on Brutus, I was thinking along the lines of Nathaniel Garro from Flight of the Eisenstein and how he earned the Aquila on his Breastplate. I figured that the Contemptors were members from the earliest days of the Legion, back when they were the War Hounds, and that their heroism and personal sacrifice were enough to earn the honor of carrying the Imperial Aquila as well as the right to pilot a dreadnought chassis.

Anyways, here's the rest of the squad:

Yea, the Aquilla appears to have been used as an individual honour and decoration.. its just the the super special Emperors Children were super special enough to be granted that honour wholesale as a Legion.

Loving the army so far. Looking great. Especially like the conversion work on the captain. I take it your planning to grab Angron at some point?

What direction do you plan next?

Brother Heinrich
23-09-2012, 17:07
Thanks, and yes Angron is at the top of my list lol. As far as the army goes, I'm going to finish the basic troops and then the Captain so I at least have a playable force, then its on to the Death Company (Berzerkers), the second Contemptor, two Drop Pods and the Landraider. With the FW release of the Cataphractii Terminators I'll be working a squad of those boys into the army as well. I'm interested to see the ruleset they put out in Book I of the HH for the World Eaters, if I like the rules then their ight be some restructuring of the army.

Brother Heinrich
04-10-2012, 22:16
So after a serious amount of revising, I've redone most of my list, it will now go as follows:

Army List:
- 3rd Company Captain (Astorath) - In Progress
- Terminator Squad Valar - In Progress
- Berzerker Dreadnought Brutus (Death Company Dread) - Complete- Berzerker Dreadnought Brutus (Death Company Dread) - In Progress
- Wrathe Berzerker Squad (Death Company) - In Progress
- Tagore Assault Squad - In Progress
- Konan Assault Squad - Complete
- Drop Pod - In Progress
- Drop Pod - In Progress
- Land Raider Blade of Fury - In Progress

The Berzerker (death co) squad will now be equipped with jetpacks and accompany the Captain of the 3rd (Astorath) and the Landraider will serve as transport for the terminators. I'm at a crossroads with the Terminators on whether or not to go Tartaros or Cataphractii. The Cataphractii seem more World Eaters-y but the Tartaros make more sense according to the fluff wherein Horus directed the newest and best equipment to the traitor legions before the onset of the heresy.

that is a very clever conversion on the captain.
I like that you have to look close to see if it isnt an existing model. Its the small things that make for a great conversion and you pulled it off....cant wait to see it when its painted.

Alrighty gents, I present to you Captain Crixus Urteil, commander of the World Eaters 3rd assault company. He's my 'counts as' Astorath the grim.

So after getting a look at Horus Heresy: Betrayal, I've decided to incorporate some of the Legion customs and traditions with my company, to start off I gave Captain Crixus Urteil the markings to symbolize cortical implants.

Jesus that's a truckload of pain and misery lol, and yeah my plan is to go more minimalist on his armor and take the ostentation down a notch as well as painting it the white and blue of the rest of his legion, I always pictured him as more of a soldier's soldier, who doesn't give a flying ******* about pomp and ceremony, just wants to get stuck in with the boys and show 'em how it's done.

The current rules mean you probably shouldn't have a primarch ever join a squad... it really wastes all that lovely durability Primarchs have. You use the majority toughness of the squad, so he'll be taking wounds as if he was a mere T4 Space Marine.

Stupid challenge rules not overriding majority WS/T either...

Fizzy
19-10-2012, 02:03
No he was never a lord according to himself. Never wanted to be called so either. I chose to have him on bronze/gold to represent his gladiator times. So the more special units will be having bronze/gold trims an icons/details.

But I get curious of your idea.

Jericho@: What do you mean? Angron does no loose his toughness in a squad? Running him alone will get him shot down in 1-2 rounds easily. He needs some kind of cannonfodder infront of him.
I might miss something but I always run any leader or hard striking character with something just in case. Sorry if I misunderstood.

Yeah I like the gladiator stuff they modeled on him, but I wanted to show it on a more subtle level, like he took on the white armor of his sons and the mantle of a commander in the great crusade, but never forgot where he came from, and what made him who he is.

Very cool assault marines, the contemptor is nothing short of brutal, seems quite fitting to have the name Brutus. My only query is why it has the Number III rather than XII unless it denotes is squad number for example.

From what I remember The Emperor's Children were the first legion bestowed the honour of using the emperors symbol (the aquila) wholesale as a legion, however the other legions then began to incorporate it, though not to the extent of the EC, so an aquila here and an aquila there wouldn't seem so far fetched, though the mostly case to put one first would be a fallen battle brother in side a dred.

Thanks, and the III Denotes the company, I should update the first post with the Fluff I've created about them, but basically I figured everyone knows what the XII legion looks like, company/squad markings are more important signifiers within the structure of the legion itself.

These are probably the best painted world eaters I have seen, keep up the great work.
Thanks! will do!

First off, great world eaters, really nice.

Second, any chance of you revealing how you painted them? *wink wink nodge*

And Lastly, your captain is incredible... but i just cant identify the parts you used... it would be awsome, if you could name them :)

Thanks, I'll put up a paint tutorial one of these days, but I start with Gray Primer, then Use VMA Light Gray, Then Finish up with a 1:15 mix of VMA Light Gray and VMA White. The Shoulder Pads and Backpacks are painted separate using VMA Blue and VMA French Blue.

As far as the Captain goes I based him of one of the Masters of the Chapter, Added a MkIII Gauntlet holding a Space Wolf Head, Used a MkIV Helmet and GS'd a Crest for it, I used a forearm and Power Axe from the Chaos Terminator set and finally various plastic skulls from the Warriors of Chaos box for his skull sash.
