I just love the fluff and the mini's of Necromunda, I've never actually played the game itself though, but I've heard that it's a blast. Maybe in the future... ;)
Anyway, I don't know if I'll play with the minis featured in this blog, but I will upload some nice and mainly classic minis and some of my own fluff to go with them - and I hope you'll like it aswell.

Anyway, I'm mainly going to focus on a (classic)Goliath gang - called the Junkyard Warriors, I'll also paint and convert some old Diggas to represent Ratskin renegades of the renegade "White Hands".
I'm also going to include the occasional dregs, mutants, scum, gunslingers and other (un)pleasant inhabitants of the wastes!

On to the factions;

The Junkyard Warriors(Goliath); also known as the Junkies, Junks or Scrappers. They run the old scrapyard just south of Dust Falls which they've made into a virtual fortress. In battle they wear armor pieced and melted together from all manners of old gear and scrap metal. Another distinct feature of the gang is the green-dyed hair.

The White Hands, also known as the Ghosts or Ghost Hands by their enemies or other ratskin tribes; The White Hands is a small band of former Ratskins who has turned their back on the Ratskin creed. They tend to cover their hands, forearms and heads in white warpaint, and they've shaved their heads. They're a small but very dangerous band of madmen that roam the wastes in search of old archeotech, food or just the thrill of the kill. They rarely deal with other factions and they're hated and hunted by other Ratskins.

Anyway, on to the first mini of this log, I've got no plans to include this guy in one of the gangs but I just love this old model, a classic Ratskin shaman;

And here's a darker pic, which shows the color scheme better;

I'm currently waiting for a box full of classic Goliath to arrive in the mail - so watch this space!

The 'Bad' Yarro Brothers, a couple of ne'er-do-well outlaws;

Yed Yarro, the oldest of the two, He onced managed to kill an officer of the Adeptus Arbites and took his bolter and damaged shield as a trophy, as well as his skull...
http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e299/glenning/scumgrenades.jpg
Nerros Yarro, the younger one, what you would call a 'class A' sociopath, pretty handy with blades and grenades though...

Thanks man! Sadly, I don't have any right now, but as soon as get the Goliath mini's and paint them, I'll post a tutorial!

Well, it's some old plastic mesh that I picked up years ago, looks pretty good on 28mm bases!

http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e299/glenning/bossback-1.jpg http://i41.photobucket.com/albums/e299/glenning/juveback.jpg

These two were my first Goliath ever, and I really enjoyed painting them, they're such characterful mini's!

Damn, just noticed some black paint on the boss' left arm - I'll have to fix that!
EDIT: Fixed, kept the old photo though..

Those models are great, the weathering on the clothing and armour is fantastic, but it makes the clean skin look a bit out place. Maybe adding some dirt or dust to the skin would blend the model together a bit.

glenning
29-08-2012, 14:56
I was actually thinking about that, but I don't know how well grease and grime would translate onto 28 mm. Any ideas on how to do it? I don't want it to look like some commando camo.

Tars The Tiger, also known as "Stripes", former Goliath ganger, underhive scum and gun for hire..

This is one of my favorite Necromunda mini's and it was very fun to paint.

I've also finished another Goliath ganger, not as much fun to paint as the previous mini, but it had to be done!

It's very interesting to see necromunda minis painted in amore recent technique (less flashy but dirtierand more realistic.).
Though all of them look fantastic - kudos for the faces! - Tars the Tiger is my favourite.

I own him too and he looks so incredible badass^^. Your selfbuild unerhive scum looks cool too, those are WHF-Imperial bits, aren't they?

glenning
01-09-2012, 18:00
Thanks man, yes, that's how they should look down in the underhive, they're not Helmawr nobles after all... ;)

Well, I used a bunch of pretty common parts; such as Marauder legs, Catachan arms and torsos as well as some other stuff from the SM, Empire, IG and Ork ranges. Hope this helps!

Ork torso
Marauder legs
Ork arms
Modified Ogre matchlock rifle
Ogre equipment

Very nice! I really like it. I've never seen grot parts been used like this in conversions before!

harlekin
10-09-2012, 22:37
Hehe, using a grot's head is genius (and very fitting due his almost shark like jaws).
Overall a very balanced and fine conversion, though his cap looks goofy to me, somehow.
Do you have an actuall metl scaly mutant too? I'd be curious about a painted one.

Sweet! A new Necromunda log!

This is one of my favourite games and it's great seeing you paint some stuff from it. That Shaman and Scummer are also some of my favourites too, the bounty hunter with bionic arm and Eschers are also some I'm fond of.
Your kit bashes are fantastic too, time to subscribe!

That's a great looking mutant! Have to say my favourite so far is definitely the chap with the shield/boltgun combo. He just looks mean! The leather jacket is spot on too, any tips? I'm painting up some of my necromunda npcs and your clothing looks really natural.

I've been swamped at work for some weeks so it's been pretty quiet at the hobby front... Anyway, now I have two days off which means more time to paint!! I also have to do the laundry but that's another matter... Haha.

excellent minis! its funny how Ive made some gangers that uses parts from the same sets! (empire militia and catachans with marauder heads :D) but then again, when making humans who is not in full uniform, those are pretty much the kits you have to base things on :D also, ime a huge fan of the extra details you have put on the brothers! i might have to steal the ork ammo belt on the shoulder and ard boyz shoulder plates :D if you are looking for a more rounded shoulder plate ive used kroot ones with good effect! anyway, keep up the good work, very inspirational!

Thanks man, I'll post a tutorial if anyone's interested? :)

Yes I really like many of the old minis, escpecially the Necro ones, they're just so full of character! While a lot of the new stuff is just awesome, some of it lacks the character and the dark sense of humor of the old days IMO!

glenning
22-11-2012, 20:37
I've painted 3 more Goliath since my last post, but it's dark outside so I'll have to take some photos tomorrow. With 8 minis finished I have a basic gang and can move on to my next project;

I'm planning to do an Orlock gang called the "Yellow Jackets" or just the "Jackets"; an Orlock gang formed by discharged guardsmen; the color scheme is going to concist of a black vest with yellow armor, OD green and black webbing and maybe white or yellow bandanas, any thoughts on the sash? White, grey, or maybe even camo?

Astraeos
22-11-2012, 23:29
Only 8? Make/paint one more as 9 is a better number to start a gang off with. You'll have five gangers to work all five of your starting territories. And if one or two can't work due to injury then at least you're still bringing in a fair few creds.

glenning
22-11-2012, 23:40
Thanks for the tip Astraeos! I have about 5 more Goliath so I guess I'll have to paint 'em all... ;)

Ah and yes, I just ordered a couple of Escher mini's, two of my favorite Escher sculpts actually;

glenning

@Chem-Dog: Thanks mate! Glad you like him, hopefully I'll finish him soon. I'm also planning to get some cultists to use as Scavvies(with some minor conversion work they will look great as Scavvies) and that cultist commisar will look great like som kind of badzone duke who has carved himself a small empire in the wastes.

@Hairy Norseman: Thanks! Yeah, when it comes to Necromunda you can really go to town with conversions. Yes that would be nice, wouldn't it? I still remember the old days when you could get Necro stuff in GW stores, aah those were the days.. ;)

@Astraeos: Nice, I'm planning to have every single one in the future, for now I only have the complete Goliath range. Gotta catch 'em all, ehrm or something...

The shaman is great, the ganger and his armor is an extremely well done conversion.

The head is simply stunning and my guess is the slaaneshy-ish mutation head from last edition for chaos marines and also included with chaos warriors. You removed its tongue and added details?

Thank you guys - glad you like this little log of mine!

ResinForge : It's actually a good old SW head, I filed off the mohawk, added a bionic eyes and some tubing and - voila! Gotta love the Slaneesh head you mentioned though.

Chaos cultists as Scavvies? Nice idea! I like the use of the plastic Necromancer head.

I thought those cultists would be great for Necromunda, but it never occurred to me to play them as Scavvies! Great idea dude!
