Does anybody know of any tournaments within the U.S. that has a payout for the winner? (ignoring local game shop tournaments)

If you are a fantastic painter you can make some good money. Other then that... yeah... there is no professional warhammer circuit with big cash payouts like there is with M:TG.

And thank gods for that. Tournaments would become every gamers worst nightmare.

Even the very biggest tournaments only have a prize of about $100 (and that's in store credit), and generally the games are played over the course of two days. Not worth your time if you're in it just for the money.

Some tournaments have slightly larger prizes, such as Battalion/Battleforce boxes for winners. But generally speaking, there aren't cash prizes at most tournaments, as most tournaments don't make very much money off entry fees ;)

Can you see a tournament with say a $1000 prize?

You'd have to have referees present in full riot gear to arbitrate rules lawyering and disputes... as well as a fully calibrated laser range finder to find measurements to the exact nanometer.

Isn't that what they have at those big MTG tournaments?

Have you tried Vegas? Or you could make your own underground gaming ring with millions up for grabs?

I think the people who do that "play" with real armies.

I think the people who do that "play" with real armies.

And even then, it's not so underground. I'm pretty sure that those outside of the "circuit" (or whatever they'd call it) kind of notice it going on after a while :p

And they're "playing for a bit more than money...

I was in the Million Dollar Tournament before it was cool.

You've probably never heard of it...

It's pretty underground...

Do you guys dress like you were out of Mad Max and walk on ground glass in your bare feet to prove how tough you are?

That's pretty stellar. I'll never be good enough for that.

Would it be viable for a TV audience?

Could you see a half hour slot some where out there?

I mean there are alot of channels, imagine GW produced a show on a kids TV channel at 17:00. I think it could work, then stream it to Youtube.

It's not a money making tournament as the original poster describes, but it has potential. Plus the production cost would be low and the prizes could compensate for that...
