hi all
I have a few questions about the new horus heresy book:
1)what do people think of the book in general?
2)does it have a new army list in it with the new models, like the imperial armour books did?
3) if it does have an army list, what do people think of it
4) what do people think of the new models released from forge world

hi all
I have a few questions about the new horus heresy book:
1)what do people think of the book in general?

Very happy with the book. Excellent source superior to anything released to Wh40k before - although it deals only with a certain part of the Heresy and four legions.
I'd pay 50% more because it is worth it.

The only problem is the size and how heavy it is. I am going to copy and print some pages for convenience's sake.

2)does it have a new army list in it with the new models, like the imperial armour books did?

The army list together with wargear and rules for four legions is over 60 pages long. There is also a small Mechanicus list as a teaser for the future book about the war on Mars, now useful as allies.

3) if it does have an army list, what do people think of it

Very many options. Balance seems very good. So far only one problem I'd like a FAQ to explain just in case.
Plays differently than any Marine army before and nothing so far seemed overpowered.

4) what do people think of the new models released from forge world

FW in general produces very good models if somehow expensive in many cases.

The new Cataphractii Terminators are gorgeous, I think I'm going to get some to use in my regular 40k Chaos army. The new MkII, MkIII and MkIV armours are great too and would make nice veterans for a Space Marine army. However out of all of them I think the apothecaries are my favourite - these new Forge World models could hit my wallet hard!

Will we need Betrayal to play the next book Massacre? I would like to play Iron Hands but I don't know if I have to get Betrayal to get the Legion army list :(

I don't think anyone is certain yet but Forgeworld have a history of putting things like the flyer and superheavy rules in all the publications which use them. The core Legion list is about 50 pages. Taking out the pictures and compressing entries to use blank space then it could probably come down to around 35 . If really condensed it could be around 20-25 pages which would be a decent compromise for those who only want a legion from Massacre. It's a question worth asking when people come across Forgeworld design staff at events for a definitive answer.

1)what do people think of the book in general?
I was completely apprehensive about buying this book (70 is quite a step for one book), but I'm glad I jumped in, apart from some amazing background and great artwork the book seems quite different from Imperial armour books. The army lists are a good read in themselves and offers a great array of different army builds. I still haven't begun reading the story chapters but so far I'm very impressed with the back story of the Imperium.

2)does it have a new army list in it with the new models, like the imperial armour books did?
Even better than that, it has a standing armylist, which is variable due to the choices you make choosing your legion praetor (more or less a Chapter Master), secondly there are four legions to choose from in this book which offer access to more specialised units and of course relevant Primarchs whihc do seem to be somewhat of a game changer, these change the army build slightly, ie you have the option of some special cc weapons for World Eaters Charcters aswell as some other special rules.

4) what do people think of the new models released from forge world
I only ordered Angron, Have to say I was quite happy, my favourite pre heresy legion and favourite Pirmarch got attention first, the miniature is more a work of art than a centrepiece model, (never been so terrified to apply glue to a miniature before), Haven't bought any marines yet but they do look good and tempting.

In a small conclusion I usually tend to steer away from both 40k and jumping on it's said bandwagon, but the background, art, miniatures and detail into which the Forgeworld design team have gone into bringing the world of warhammer 30,000 to life is just damn impressive. I know the Horus Heresy was a tricky subject to create within the tabletop due to it long-standing grounding as a Novel series, but hopefully by the end of Forgeworlds plans it will be well known for it's miniatures and FW books as well as it's siring Novella.
