hi everyone,

Hope you're all good. I've been working on PH Emperors Children for about 6 months now. I have 2 tactical squads, 1 assault squad and a squad of veterans along with the cataphractii terminator squad. For HQ I have a librarian (debateable I know but I love the model) and the terminator Chaplain, with the overall leadership going to the Ultramarines Sicarius model with a little bit of work to remove the "U"s from him. I'm currently at work and only have one photo to upload and show you, but intend to get them all up later on. Please feel free to leave C&C as afterall that's how hobbyists improve. I hope you like it.

cheers,

Lovely model and looking forward to seeing some fantastic Emperors Children :)

Hate to bring it up, as you're done a great job with him but the Indomitus Pattern Terminator armour wasn't developed until well after the Heresy. In that period Terminators would've been Cataphractii or Tartaros patterns. You can always justify it background-wise though, by saying it's an experimental suit or something

Thanks a lot mate, it means a lot. Regarding the Terminator armour, I was afraid of that, but the same goes with the librarian really, I really liked the model and had to have it! Normally I try and adhere to the fluff but the models themselves had to be bought :-)

anyway, will go upstairs and try and get some pics up!

cheers,

right... here we go... although bad pics it at least shows the majority!

here is the first half of my assault squad with sergeant. I used the backpacks from the sanguinary guard without the wings to represent the jump packs.

here is the second half... although very WIP, as the backpacks have literally just been undercoated.

I don't blame you, the Terminator Chaplain is one of my favourite models. Got 3 of them, 2 for my loyalists, 1 chaos-ified.

Just Fluff him out by saying that as a officer of one of the most favoured legions, he's been given the honour of field testing one of the latest suits of Terminator armour, seeing as Indomitus is an evolution of the Tartaros pattern. I'd imagine that in the more innovation-friendly crusade, something like that happens a lot.

I know it's a blatent plug, but check out my Sons of Horus plog I've just started: http://www.warseer.com/forums/showthread.php?353834-For-the-Warmaster!-Khorneguy-does-Pre-Heresy-mainly-Sons-of-Horus-Thousand-Sons

Obviously a lot of them are missing their bolters (phobos bolters). If anyone has any they'd like to sell/donate i'd be most grateful!

as always, let me know what you think :)

They look realy realy good!

SultanGrayus
16-10-2012, 18:35
thank you everyone :)

to get that colour purple I...

1.) undercoat in black
2.) using a tank brush give the model a thin coat of hormagaunt purple/daemonette hide base paint
3.) using a tank brush give the model 2 thin coats of xereus purple
4.) cover the model in a liberal wash of leviathan purple (it's the GW purple wash if i've got the name wrong)
5.) layer using xereus purple
6.) finally highlight using genestealer purple on the edges

as you can see it's a very simple recipe, but one I'm happy with. I will upload my other models later for more C&C. If anyone can think of a way I can improve my models then please let me know.

thanks again,

Gearhart

That purple is stunning! Fantastic job, hope to see more soon..... keep up the fantastic work!

Interesting color choice. I achieved a rather similar sheme with the Vallejo extra opaque heavy lila, then the gw lila wash and then a light drybrush with army painter purple. Funny how so different approches lead to a near similar result

cheers guys. very simple scheme but one i feel comfortable doing for a lot of marines...

last night i had a bit of a brainwave and one i hope others agree with!

I had only 10 phobos bolters and 4 tigrus bolters and obviously needed a lot more to fit out my tactical squads... so i got to work and removed the phobos bolters from my troops and instead fitted them with the chaos bolter with the belt clip of ammo hanging out the side as i have plenty of them, and to me they have an "old" feel/look about them.

I've also ripped off the left shoulder pad of each of the troops in prep for a mass order of MKII or MKIV EC Shoulder pads.

I may have to put these pads on my xmas list however as i've just put an order through for the old Crusade armour troops, a contemptor body and the MKIV command squad! Sadly though these are still at "Acknowledged" stage :(

let me know what you guys think about the change in bolters or whether anyone has any better ideas?

cheers all

OK i've chucked ALL my Emperors Children in Dettol as I just wasn't happy with them! I felt I could have done a better job and having seen SacredBoltguns EC recently, they inspired me to start again and do it properly.
I'd just purchased a Contemptor, an MK2 squad of 5 and MK4 Command figures so with that in mind I needed to come up with a new scheme that was simple, effective and this time one I really liked!

Not sure about anyone else out there but I really liked the EC at Games Day UK and the white they included looked really good (to me at least). So with that in mind I was happy to see the FW EC painting guide. I've cannibalised it a little bit to create the following test model.... please let me know what you think guys.

Before I forget, this formula is army painter alien purple, a quick brush over of Xereus purple, then a wash of Druchii violet, then nuln oil in the crevices and gaps. Xereus purple to tidy up any mistakes. The gold is 50:50 Balthasar gold and vallejo gold

really nice looking, if I would make any suggestion it would be to edge the bases in black to off set the grey, i think it would make them stand out even more.

SultanGrayus
03-11-2012, 23:13
thank you mate. The base it's currently on is only temporary as I plan to make a little more interesting base than the bog standard sand etc. Thats still a good idea though as I normally paint the base and the rims the same colour

I was looking through your plog again last night and I realised our choice of colours are very similar!

Thanks for the compliment mate, I'm personally not great at highlighting and purple is a hard one to get right so I thought I'd let the washes and the layers do the shading etc.

I've just ordered the "new" MK II set of marines so they should arrive this week and I can set about having two 5 man squads if only to make it legal for the smallest of skirmishes. I've dunked my cataphractiis in dettoll and replaced the head and fist of the "sergeant" with the bare head and sword.

Current state of play is

5 man squad almost finished...
5 unpainted cataphractii terminators with bolter/power fist
1 unpainted librarian (although not strictly legal in an EC army I liked the model a lot)
1 unpainted conversion of a master of chapter model
2 FW Captain/Standard Bearer models unpainted
1 unmade contemptor (without arms!)
1 MKII 5 man squad on its way from FW
plenty of other marines which I'm not too keen on which I'm unsure what to do with!

I have 10 assault marines which I plan on just repainting... but if anyone has any spare MKII or MKIII heads going spare I'd like to buy them please :)

Any suggestions on anything, I'd really like to hear it as I plan on making this force something special :)

thanks all

Love the models.

Might I ask a quick question as I am just starting to strip my Nids and re-do them using AP's Alien Purple? When you say you brush over with Xereus Purple are you just hitting the highlights or being fairly thorough?

Cheers

Yea ya termi armour is fine. Apparently the 'current' armour is heresy era... cataphractii armour is an earlier pattern that offered greater protection but was less maneuverable and began to fall outof favour because of it
